This song really hits home for me. I was a young GI, stationed in South Korea, 1999. I received a Red Cross message telling me that my mother was losing her battle with breast cancer. My unit put me on a plane, and I landed home on a Tuesday. She died two days later. Flying back to Korea I had a conversation with her -- she wasn't riddled with cancer anymore, her skin regained its color, she had her hair again, and she was strong enough to talk and smile once more. I remember telling her that I was afraid of living my life alone, and she answered with, "you won't." When I got back into my barracks room, I put on the TV, and the video for this song came on. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of that lucid dream.

I found this written about Silent Lucidity: 'It’s fascinating how some songs can trigger an emotional response so strong that it can easily shatter down all the walls we keep on building around our hearts. I’ve always said that one important strength of a song comes from its ability to let people feel vulnerable for a few minutes. We live in a world where the constant hardships of life turned many people into emotionally-constrained beings, rarely letting go and allowing sincere feelings, even sadness, to pass by their existence. I didn’t want to get too philosophical but that’s how I see it - a song can be the perfect outlet through which we can experience emotions and feelings we keep on stuffing deep down inside our souls. For me personally, Queensrÿche’s Silent Lucidity is one such song. Every time I listen to the haunting acoustic intro and Geoff Tale’s thrilling vocal performance, I feel this immense doze of sadness and pain that is actually freeing me from my apathetic prison, called daily life. To me, it’s a song that lets me get out of my comfort zone and for that I will always appreciate it. Honestly, before it became such a huge part of my life, I had no idea how commercially successful it was. With this in mind I thought that maybe this gorgeous tune touched the hearts of many people like me who would love to read a few selected pieces of interesting information about it, along with my interpretations!'

Love the reaction. Please do more Queensryche. Thanks for bringing me back to my 1st time hearing this. Road to Madness would be a good reaction. Thanks again.
You might lose someone very close to you, but they will still always be there with you. That's my message from this song. One of their best songs ever.
It is about dream control. I have realized that I am dreaming during dreams, and have shifted them to go the way I want them to go. This song brings back so many memories from my childhood. I didn't know what it was about as a child but loved the melody and voice. Still my absolute favorite.
From an avid TOOL fan, Geoff Tate has the greatest vocals of all time. And Operation Mindcrime could go head to head with any album as the best of all time.
My future husband and I went to the Queensryche concert and they played the entire Operation Mindcrime album. I had only just started knowing them from this song. But DAMN that was a great concert!
This is one of those songs you just dont want to end. Its over 5mins long, but it just flys by as you just get lost in it. One of my top 10 of all time songs.
Queensryche is one of those bands that has great songs but they also have great and meaningful lyrics that are really worth the listen. I say that to differentiate between hearing and listening. To my mind hearing is a passive activity as in we hear many things going on around us but we have to concentrate to actually listen because listening is active.
This band is so underrated. When you listen, you're first taken by Geoff Tates voice, but you go back, listen to the drums, then the bass, and you then realize there's no auto tune. This band is genuine. This song was about Chris Degarmo's daughter who had frequent nightmares. You were correct in that it's about lucid dreaming and controlling reality over dream. I always ask anyone doing reactions to listen again. And again. You'll find so much more about this band that screams pure raw talent and some of the best lyrics ever written.
I listen to this song, every Veterans Day. No, my father wasn’t a vet, but he was tragically killed in a semi wreck @ 2:20 pm. I also listen to this song when I am troubled. To this day I always still step back and wonder….dad, is that still you at my side? Trying to free me?
You're reaction is exactly how mine was the first time I heard this song. I was mesmerized. Beautiful. Also lucidity is knowing, being present. And yes you can learn to lucid dream.
The whole Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime" Concept Album..just start with the first song and do reactions in sequence as each song is a continuing storyline..
The lead singer at the time (Geoff Tate) sang The Star Spangled Banner before a Seattle Seahawks game in 2007. The crowd started cheering early.... Geoff just turned his already powerful voice up a notch or two... and drowned out the crowd without losing any vocal clarity and resonance.
Been one of my favorite songs since I was 13. His voice is so smooth and comforting. I have even had a couple lucid dreams in my life, it’s hard to stay asleep once you realize you are asleep. But those were the best dreams I have ever dreamt. I went to a celebration of life today of an old friend and this song is the perfect one to follow that.
Anything off the Mindcrime album needs to be listened to in context of the whole album. As other reviewers/reactions have done, they miss a bunch of stuff without the context of the whole album. Btw... "I Don't Believe In Love" is one of my favorites on an album with a lot of favorites :)
I could listen to this song a million times in a row and enjoy it just as much as the first time. Absolutely fabulous!!!!!Been many years since I have heard this.
This song is about going home and meeting your loved ones in the afterlife and about lucid dreams, because lucid dreams are a connection to the afterlife
I love this song! Yes. Lucid dreaming is realizing you are in a dream and take control of it to do whatever you want. I've only realized it once as a kid and panicked. I spun out of control and felt like I was falling from space to the Earth and woke up scared. I've never been able to achieve lucid dreaming again, but I love how emotional this song is and has always been one of my all time favorite songs.
This song took the radio and MTV by storm back in the day. Everyone knew who they were after this. Great song that hasn’t lost anything over the years. Tons of great songs by this band.
This was and still is my favorite song, ever! It doesn't surprise me to still see people react to it so positively, it's definitely on a level of its own. Much love 💘, Bird 🐦
Grew up with this incredible band and the amazing lyrics in the 80s. So glad you have the opportunity to discover them now. If you listen carefully to the lyrics towards the end he sings ""the walls come down...," and the drummer follows it up with a "tumbling effect" to mimic the falling of the walls. Enjoy!! 👍
Lucidity means clarity. When someone had a lucid dream it means they are aware that they are dreaming. As a frequent lucid dreamer myself I can tell you that actually controlling the content of your dreams is not always easy. Sometimes the best I can do is wake myself up.
I had dreams I was flying... But could never really fly as high as I wanted. I read about lucid dreams... And I controlled the very next dream I had about flying... Crazy experience... But I can fly higher in my dreams now... As well as control others. Pretty amazing
Never really knew what to call it but I've had experiences in dreams that I've either had to wake myself up, or actually change the dream itself. Changing the dream is weird. Its like my mind rewinds it to a point where I was uncomfortable or afraid and chnged the outcome. Often when I wake from one where I changed the dream I only remember pieces of it. Actually more like losing big parts of it as I become conscious whereas I usually remember vivid dreams I did not alter. I don't have much of these dreams of either kind anymore compared to when I was younger. Would this be a form of lucid dreams or something different?
Yes, however there aren't actually talking about sleeping like you are here. They are talking about the sleeping that JESUS CHRIST tries to teach about in the holy bible!!
Queens rike..like bike. His voice is amazing. Try Take Hold Of the Flame, I Will Remember, Anybody Listening, No Sanctuary..to start you off. "Silent Lucidity" was written about a person having a lucid dream. ... DeGarmo got the idea from a book called "Creative Dreaming". "The song is about the ability to realize that you're dreaming, recognize it, and actually participate in the dream, shape it, change it," the guitarist said in a 1990 interview...(copied off of Google)

This song is on my playlist. Could never get tired of this one. Glad you heard it.
My favorite song from Queensryche.
It is both soothing and haunting at the same time. I revisit it from time to time.
For a different side to his voice to check out "Operation Mindcrime" or "I dont believe in love"
Terribly underrated band. Insane vocals, immensely talented musicians.
Love the reaction. Please do more Queensryche. Thanks for bringing me back to my 1st time hearing this. Road to Madness would be a good reaction. Thanks again.
You might lose someone very close to you, but they will still always be there with you. That's my message from this song. One of their best songs ever.
Actually, this song is right out of the holy bible!!!! Sad that so many of our fathers children have no idea what this song is about!!!
Yes! And I have experienced talking to someone I had lost who was close to me, in my dreams.
It is about dream control. I have realized that I am dreaming during dreams, and have shifted them to go the way I want them to go. This song brings back so many memories from my childhood. I didn't know what it was about as a child but loved the melody and voice. Still my absolute favorite.
Take Hold of the Flame, Walk in the Shadow, I Don't Believe In Love, and Jet City Woman... so many to choose from.
Omg! I’ve just been listening to Queensryche for the first time in years. My fav track ! Thank you! Great reactions as per. Lovin your work 👍🏻
This is one of those songs you just dont want to end.
I always get a heavy Pink Floyd vibe from this song.
OMG...you found Queensryche!!
Geoff Tate has one of the greatest voices. This band is underappreciated
This is one of those perfect songs. Beautiful.
THIS SONG HAS HELPED MANY PEOPLE THROUGH ISSUES IN THEIR LIFE! GREAT SOUND TO IT AND HIS VOICE GIVES YOU THE CHILLS!
Thank you! Now Go tell the other jabronies in here the same thing as these commenters just don’t get it , making stuff up .. be well
The Lady Wore Black -- First Queensryche song I heard and hooked for life.
I'm not sure Which song was the 1st song I ever heard.I dream an infrared Great song I don't think there is a bad song on empire
One of the best sounding, most beautiful songs ever created in my opinion .
Jason Williams agreed. This song still gives me goosebumps it’s so beautiful.
Beautifully arranged.
I listen to this song, every Veterans Day. No, my father wasn’t a vet, but he was tragically killed in a semi wreck @ 2:20 pm. I also listen to this song when I am troubled. To this day I always still step back and wonder….dad, is that still you at my side? Trying to free me?
God bless you and your father . And yes , he’s looking over you , smiling next to you...
@@thesongmanlive6068 thank you
You're reaction is exactly how mine was the first time I heard this song. I was mesmerized. Beautiful.
Also lucidity is knowing, being present. And yes you can learn to lucid dream.
The whole Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime" Concept Album..just start with the first song and do reactions in sequence as each song is a continuing storyline..
One of the best vocalist you'll ever hear.
SIMPLY GORGEOUS ) l play this myself for you DAD💔 l’m so not here without you... 🥰✨🥺🌈🌟💫💖
Lucid dreaming is when you can not only have the dream you want, but control it. Ive done it many times...truly an amazing thing.
You need to hear "Take hold of the flame" Queensryche-live in Tokyo 1984>!!!!!
Queensryche - I don't believe in love
Livecrime version!
Definitely!!
I learned how to sing this song in American Sign Language. Freaking awesome song!
Anything off the Mindcrime album needs to be listened to in context of the whole album. As other reviewers/reactions have done, they miss a bunch of stuff without the context of the whole album. Btw... "I Don't Believe In Love" is one of my favorites on an album with a lot of favorites :)
Amen. Awesome song!
Fantastic song - just perfect!
I could listen to this song a million times in a row and enjoy it just as much as the first time. Absolutely fabulous!!!!!Been many years since I have heard this.
I think you’d like the Alan Parsons Project as well.
Yes, been meaning to suggest them!
Yes I Robot is an hell of an album
Pavane!
Fuck yeah! I Robot, I wouldn’t want to be like you and on and on!
“Eye in the Sky” with the “Sirius” intro attached to it! Also “I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You”
Their cover of Scarborough Fair showcases his greatness as well.
Absolutely. His range on that song is amazing.
I was going to comment the same. Definitely a powerful rendition of the song.
Im from Scarborough, Ont, no bloody Fair here.
@@CHAUNCEY.GARDNER. lmao!!!!!
This song is about going home and meeting your loved ones in the afterlife and about lucid dreams, because lucid dreams are a connection to the afterlife
Every song is open to interpretation. I had always wondered what their meaning was. Thank you. 🎧😎
i always thought this song was an ending to Operation: Mindcrime ... That album was left open, and I always thought this song was closure for it.
inspired in Comfortably Numb of Pink Floyd right ?.
One of the most beautiful and moving songs ever. It is one of my favorites and I never get tired of listening to it.
You MUST do their single "Empire"
You're on a roll with my favorites! LOVE this one!!! Try Take Hold of the Flame to really hear his range.
this has such a strong old school Floyd vibe to it. This whole album is a masterpiece, particularly the title track
Old school Floyd? More like post waters Floyd. The soft Floyd
There is something about his voice that reminds me of david Gilmour
@@HiddenCharmhome It reminds me of Learning to Fly specifically.
@@oldboygamer9985 that’s it!!!
To Me, Silent Lucidity is kinda a secret Pink Floyd song, that would fit seamlessly on The Wall album.
This song took the radio and MTV by storm back in the day. Everyone knew who they were after this. Great song that hasn’t lost anything over the years. Tons of great songs by this band.
I always imagine this is my angels talking to me. Great video! Thanks for reviewing.
I think of this song like a lullaby for a child who had a nightmare, teaching them how to control their dreams.
Why do you think JESUS said to his disciples, "Get up, wake up from the dead"!!??
I read somewhere that he wrote this for or about his child. Can't find the reference now but I believe it's true
Love the song forever. Some are not dreams 💋they are visions!!🥰 I'm mystic 🙏🌈🦋🌈🥰
This was and still is my favorite song, ever! It doesn't surprise me to still see people react to it so positively, it's definitely on a level of its own.
Much love 💘, Bird 🐦
Same here! Love it just as much today as when it first debuted!
My favorite band ever. Absolutely phenomenal from voice, harmony, instrumentation, playing as 1... the whole works. Ryche on!
Its not often healthy either as I can easily attest!
Same here. I find myself realizing I'm dreaming and guide it. I joke to my wife that I don't have dreams, I have whole episodes lol
Yes, however there aren't actually talking about sleeping like you are here. They are talking about the sleeping that JESUS CHRIST tries to teach about in the holy bible!!
How about Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame. Live in Tokyo
A must!
that's THE ONE to go
Joe B yes! 👏👏👏
One listen is not enough.
Listen to this song ten more times than get back to us.
ITS TOO BAD YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THIS KIND OF MUSIC . IT TAKES HEART AND SOUL AND NOBODY HAS THAT ANYMORE.
Bringing me back to the 90’s.... yes.... always loved this song. Such melancholy. Perfect for my 90’s teenage heart.
What's even weirder is a dream inside of a dream. Every once in a while I'll think I've woken up from a dream, only to be in another dream.
@bodeswell35 I've had that happen, only they got scary after a while. I wish to never have that happen again. Like a bad trip, perhaps?
This was one of those songs that "spoke" to me when I first heard it. It's one of my top favorites of all time.
❤️
This song is very special to me, I lost my dad at only 51, and this song gave me comfort saying that he is watching over me.

Without question Jamel, thee best concert I have ever seen by any band! 5 members (plus an orchestra for Silent Lucidity), playing in perfect unison. Honestly, as one of the bigger Rush fans, I was stunned at just how good Geoff Tate’s voice, the back-up vocals, and their musical technique as a band as a whole was live. Great reaction video... again ! ! !
