The song “ The Sign” was the only one in the album of the same name that didn’t feature the 90s era trend of a “ rap/ sing-speak break” (lol insert technical term here) in one of their songs. They relied on it heavily and it worked for them. “Don’t Turn Around” and “All That She Wants” were well known songs as well as “It’s A Beautiful Life,” which is their best overall. Living In Danger is my favorite song that was not a single.
The name came from a “BASE” they used to practice in. Other bands were in the facility too. They knew they had something better than the others so they entitled themselves as Ace of that base! There were next door to a black reggae band and became influenced by their reggae vibes and incorporated into their sound.
'93 and you guys were still in high school. Geez I'm old. I don't feel any different. Good reaction! And I'm happy to see the grumpy dude looking so smiley! Much more handsome, agreeable looking fellow!
Was 26 when this came out. Was sort of a guilty pleasure for me. I and my friends were old enough that this was sort of "kids' music" to us, but I liked it and bought the album. Classic rock was pretty much dead at that point so you had to listen to what was out there.
Classic Dennis Pop sound. (Famous producer) The funny part is that Ace of base sent their demo cassette tape to Dennis and he put it in his car stereo, it got stuck there, he didn’t like it, but since it was stuck, he slowly got to see how to produce it. He use a lot of reggae in Euro-techno back then. (Like for example Dr Alban-no coke, an awesome beat) He taught another producer Max Martin, that have written and produced maaany famous artist songs on the billboard. Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry , NSYNC, Ariana Grande, Weekend… just to name a few… people doesn’t realize how many hits are produced by Swedish people. Max Martin is in the top, but Shellback, Dennis Pop, RedOne is a few more. Check out 50 most famous songs produced by Sweden, and you probably will be surprised.
Can you guys react to *_"Shake Your Thang" & "Get Up(Everybody)"_* by Salt n Pepa..... The video for "Get Up" actually starts from the ending of "Shake Your Thang", that's why I put the together like that.💗💗
On a side note one of the guys ( I can't remember which one) was a white supremacists and the song is about him waking up and seeing the sign and leaving that thought and life ✌️
That would be "Buddha" the blonde model looking guy who is the non sibling in the band. And as stated, has expressed deep remorse in interviews for being immersed in Nazi culture as a youth.
The Ace of Base member you are referring to is Ulf Ekberg. In regards to the meaning of the song, you are wrong. The main songwriter in Ace of Base is Jonas Berggren, who is the brother of the other two female band members, Linn and Jenny. Jonas wrote the "The Sign" and it is his lyrics from his point of view. "My brother was the one who wrote the song. It's about when suddenly you visualize something and it becomes something you use to change your life. You realize, I should do this or not do it anymore. He's always kept [whatever his sign was] a secret, and I'm not sure he had one. From (Mar 12, 2013): "Remembering the Song: Recording "The Sign" Was Anything But Romantic." By Jenny Berggren
Ace Of Base - Beautiful Life. Definitely. All That She Wants for sure too.
"Don't turn Around" as well.
To me All That She Wants is their best song.
I'm co-signing Beautiful Life, and I would add Lucky Love too!!
I prefer their song "All That She Wants", which is definitely reggae!
If you turned on the radio in '93, you would hear this song at least once every couple of hours. Didn't matter the genre you were listening to.
Or you could request it for $1.99 off of The Box.😂
This is a banger along with their other stuff and the other bands around this time.
I was entering 8th grade when this song was all over the radio and MTV in late fall/winter of '93. It was the #1 song of 1994
I was 29 when this came out !

Living in Danger was a single and it did well on the charts.

Cool thanks! 🙏 🎉
Not to mention the beautiful lead singers.!

Lucky Love for sure!!
@@randychampion184 yeah 👍😎💯
U should try Bjork. Shes from Iceland and was big in the 90s. Try Big Time Sensuality or Venus as a boy.
To be honest never really cared for their pop sound.., but that blonde is an absolute honey dripper.., my oh my......
I thought it was ok, it would’ve never been a number one song years before that…no way!
The band is called Ace of Base.🙂
A brother and his two sisters joined by big dude

Weirdly, I have never seen this video. Love the song though. The girls are adorable. Reminds be of ABBA.
The 1990's Abba
Was that a blonde Swedish mullet of sorts?

‘90’s ABBA
This song was WAY overplayed back then.
As they do with all mainstream hits.
They were like a knockoff of ABBA!
