I don’t think so, pretty sure Cloud completely made up the scenario in his head because he really believed he could save her, and every moment of her and Cloud speaking after she’s stabbed is also him imagining things. Gotta remember that homeboy is literally schizo
@@ChristophurMoltisanti At 1:15 Cloud created a new parallel world where he saved Aerith. If you pay attention to the scene it goes back and forth between dead Aerith who is covered in blood and uninjured Aerith who opens her eyes and smiles. Notice that when Aerith opens her eyes and smiles there are no one else around her except Cloud. This is because only Cloud is between these two worlds. The other party members are still fully in the main world and they can't see what Cloud can see. When prime world Aerith dies we can see a glittering rainbow light surrounding the altar. This is a sign that the fate has been breached and a new world has been created. The other party members see only main world Aerith who is dead but Cloud sees both dead Aerith and alive Aerith because his mind is now between these two worlds. That's why only he can see the rift in the sky. Also before the final fight Aerith's spirit is also aware of what happened. "I saw what you did back there, Cloud. Thank you." Now we have 2 Aeriths alive (terrier world Aerith who is in coma and this new world Aerith) and 1 Aerith dead (main beagle world) Sephiroth told Cloud that everytime the fate gets breached a new parallel world gets created. We see this with Zack. When he decided to go see Hojo and get cure for Cloud 2 a rainbow light appeared and a new parallel world was created where he decided to go save Biggs instead. Then there is another parallel world where Zack can't decide whether he should save Aerith, Cloud or Biggs and this is the world where Aerith and Cloud have their dream date and where she gives her white materia to Cloud and pushes him back to main world where he gives a working white materia to main world Aerith. So the answer to the question of whether Aerith dies or lives is actually both.
@@NordicWiseguy This is one of the best explanations I've seen around these last days. Props to you. They really made confusing the OG timeline + current Rebirth timeline + the spawning timelines.
So… I stopped playing rebirth after about 20 hours, and since I gave up going back to play it, I decided to check wtf they did to Aerith. Is this the ending of the game?
You read it all wrong. THIS TIME AERITH IS ALIVE! Cloud created a timeline where he blocks Sephiroth and saves AERITH. At the pool scene she is not a ghost, that's why the game is called Rebirth.
To be honest, i see all of this like you're seeing the Cloud insanity and you see Aerith alive cuz Cloud really believes that she is alive. Meanwhile the others sees the true reality, Aerith death

It'd be a big letdown if they were going for this angle. I don't think Square's gonna go through with this ridiculous theory. Even if true, it'd be a massive sales waster, people would confirm their feelings, and not buy part 3. Just like how'd they do it in here, these writers have to manage a good ending.
This scene hit hard... It does not matter if they showed her getting impaled, it still hurt my soul. Sephiroth throwing the blood on Cloud was crazy...
@@urhypeboy Actually there have been speculations that in Part 3 it will *show* what really happened. As well as Clouds words. Remember the story ain’t over yet.
Man I really wanted to see the iconic part of putting her dead body in the water.. I was ready for some tears although I wish she is alive in the remake. If you still gonna make her die atleast make it beautiful like the OG 😭
Hi welcome to i ruin stories Fun fact since gut wounds have no vital organs that pretty much means cloud just dropped a unconcious person in to a body of water meaning cloud killed airith in the original so he would give seph the assist .
I think we're going to get that in Part 3. Aerith may ultimately have no choice but to reveal to Cloud she did not survive in his reality, and so we'll see her reveal to him that she obfuscated those memories from him, perhaps by keeping him grounded in the second reality where she survived... which may ultimately include a scene of him laying her to rest in the water. I don't think he's going to take it well.
Cloud is either living out two timelines or this is all in his head and the story never changed. Either way, this mans mind is gone and in this game they are really showing us how far.
@@hgdfhgfdhjfg Tifa probably do everything in her power to restore Cloud's broken memory when they dive into the life stream. Just like the original, but with more complexity and depth.
Yes, it could all be a delusion or in fact he did create a parallel world, as reference alludes to. Fate was for her to die, but just before she died she gave the speech about the future can be changed, even if it's been written. I personally think that she does exist in another world, but in the end will decide not to come back into the main world, and her death here was her own choice since she was aware of what her fate would be.
Its a combination of both scenarios The aerith(s) of remake and rebirth are all connected. And up until the end of remake, they were aware of what happened to the original games aerith. But remake aerith(s) forgot it all after the final fight of remake. So, I believe that cloud is still brain busted due to mako poison and jenova degradation, and is simultaneously living in two timel iness where aerith is dead and one where she is alive. Just like the aerith at the end of rebirth is both a timeline where she is dead and one where she is alive, living simultaneously in the same space. Its weird, im sure it will get more weird before its resolved in the 3rd and final game.
@@DarkEpyon123 it is kingdom hearts storywriting all over again, I saw enough of it with how they messed up remake. The combat system changes didn't exactly help either. Music and environmental modeling is top notch though considering how absolutly fucked up kinddom hearts timeline is we talk 14+ games it is impossible for anyone to get a grip on what happeneds. Just playing the first remake should have been a tell of what is to come...also you are paying 60-70 dollars x 3 times+dlc for what casted 40 dollars once back then....jesus crist sony is skinning you people.
I still believe he can save her the duality of worlds isn’t written we saw in the remake they changed the timeline aeriths life is still in the balance I believe
They never address this, but shouldn't Yuffie have a fear of Sephiroth? Considering his involvement in the war, he should be the Wutaian equivalent of a boogeyman.
I get what they were doing a bit more on my second viewing. They were trying to appease both those who wanted her to die and those who didnt, but I think that even though for the sake of the game going on/the cast she is 'dead', that they should have had cloud fail in every attempt, and then simply not showed her speaking/appearing at all for the rest of the game until the end. That being said, they are also clearly doing something new with Cloud's mental state in some ways with him 'imagining' her and talking to him beyond the grave... I'm not sure if in the final cgi scene if thats supposed to be like lifestream Aerith or not really. Ultimately, I just wanted voice lines from the party reacting to her death, and to see him lower her body into the water. They had to balance old-new fan expectations( or lack thereof) and I think not showing that part is kind of weird.
I agree about missing out on the water burial but I think they didn't do it because itd essentially be an acknowledgement of her being dead or not to show that. Also we have zero clue where that room even is now or what happened to it so there's that to. I'm willing to see where they take this but I am cautiously optimistic
@@Saben.C-Spoon 7:50 the water burial scene is implied to have happened here, but gonna guess they didn’t show it to keep Aerith’s fate a mystery from Cloud’s perspective. In the next game, I wouldn’t be surprised if they show it in full when Cloud’s getting his mind fixed by Tifa and is forced to reconcile the reality of losing Zack and Aerith. I think that’s the whole point, dude can’t cope with death and is so mentally fucked that he’s creating a scenario where Aerith is still alive, much to the horror and confusion of his friends like Tifa and Barret.
If you notice when Cloud have that vision of Aertih being alive, it was not some black or white whispers shenanigans that is messing with him, it is the memory glitches where he refuse to see the truth, it shows he parry Sephiroths blade but he failed, that moment it is Jenova Cells or rather puppet Cloud being puppet Cloud, Sephiroth need Cloud to continue being delusional till he delivers the black materia to him, which is why I am almost certain in Part 3 we will get the entire Aerith's death and funeral played out either once Cloud regains his memory or he regain some of it halfway through the process and go completely broken.
This was what I noticed. The green/black buzzing filter Cloud gets whenever he has headaches and memory glitches happened during when he was "crying", he was saying words we couldnt hear. And then it happened again during the lake. Probably why we never saw the iconic scene where Cloud carries Aerith's body in the lake. Overall his mental breakdown is a combination of Jenova memory overrides as well as being somehow able to see the parallel worlds the whispers are making.
@@WilliamZheng757 Tifa isn't necessarily seeing that. The purpose of that scene was most likely to show Cloud holding the bloodied/not-bloodied body. We are not going to be able to see that in Cloud's POV. The only thing that is established here and in the final ending scene is Cloud's unreliable narrator due to multiple factors.
Unfortunately I think you’re pushing a little too hard for the OG timeline. They made it a point where whenever Aerith is dying there is green mist around her , but then when she’s talking to cloud and awake there’s rainbow light and no green mist. We learned earlier that the rainbow light is a sign that destiny has been altered. So what we’re seeing essentially is Cloud experiencing both realities where she has died AND survived in another. Also, the cutscene hones in on Tifa seeing Aerith bloodied AND not bloodied, but we know that Tifa isn’t infected with any Jeniva cells or whatever. This was another bread crumb leading us to believe Aerith survived in a branching timeline. One other thing….on the last stage boss fight with Seph, we see Aerith emerge but she steps out of the RAINBOW light, again signifying she’s alive in a branching timeline. Aerith tells Cloud “I see what you did there, thank you” and Seph says to them “I underestimated you.” Just like in part one how we changed fate to allow Zack to live, we have now changed fate to let Aerith, both will culminate in part 3.
That's the only thing people seem to remember Aerith for, is her murder, not that she had a personality, and was a kind and outgoing character with an adventurous spirit, that for most of the time hid her loneliness .
@@sharynmorgan944 This is the so true!. I grew up knowing about Aerith's death. Then watched Advent Children as a teenager. Which that and seeing articles of Aeriths death was my first exposure to VII. Where Advent Children told me about her legacy as a character and her importance to cloud. Remake and Rebirth is when I fell in love with her character and she's amazing. The sequence when she is trying to find help for her mother and meets Elmyra had me bawling my eyes out.
Square made Sephiroth look like a dumb fool for not following up on his failed attempt to kill Aerith in a world line where she was saved. And an even bigger fool out of Cloud for leaving Aerith unprotected from Sephiroth in the rebirth ending scene, assuming she's from another world line.
It's an overall theme in Nomura games lately with his main characters the power of waking the dreamers and the consequences of saving those destined to dir
Technically, Cloud's brain became fucked up, base on the emotions that is showing by his comrades. His like seeing different things than the reality. Maybe on the 3rd part of the game it will all sink in to him that aerith is literally dead which concludes his emotional trauma in the Advent the Children.
This is what I’m thinking. He’s super calm when everyone else is crying and seeing Aerith I think it’s not fully hitting him yet. I do think in part 3 when cloud has all the truth revealed to him that we will see Aerith fully die as it should have happened, him lowering her to the water his speech etc. I just think he’s blocking it all out now and we’re going through his perspective as a coping mechanism
Cloud's madness is really much more pronounced and Square Enix really did a great job showing it the last few chapters as well as the ending cinematic scene. Tifa's role in the OG wasn't that amazing IMO, and Rebirth did a great job reinforcing her and Cloud's relationship (Gongaga chapter, Junon and Costa del sol dialogues, etc). Which makes sense since her role in healing Cloud in the next game would be even more important.
The story of the original FF7 was confusing enough as it was. I can't even begin to comprehend all this Kingdom Hearts tier nonsense going on in the remake with multiple timelines.
I don't think it's a multi verse. I think the others are in the lifestream unaware they are dead. But now Aerith is dead she will join them and tell them they are dead and they need to help the living, and that's how the lifestream destroys Meteor in the end. Because all the deceased in the lifestream come together to save the planet. If that's the case, I think that's beautiful

I'm honestly loving this. I'm gonna let them cook for part 3 to see if they bring it home, but honestly in the meantime, I don't think I would've felt much if this played out in the same way as it did in the OG. Like, of course I'd be all "damn, that sucks" and all that but I've seen and heard about Aerith's death through video game cultural osmosis so often that I'm actually glad they changed it up a bit. I also REALLY like how they did it in a way that reinforces how broken Cloud's mental state is, whether he's seeing split timelines, going through utter denial as a form of grief, or a combination of both. I'm actually SUPER intrigued on how they're gonna handle this from here on out, especially since I think they're gonna save the full scene for part 3. We see glimpses here of Cloud delivering his speech to Sephiroth, and the lack of the water burial tells me that this is going to be THE event that Cloud needs to overcome to snap him back to reality when Tifa pieces his psyche back together in the Lifestream. This is an Empire Strikes Back moment for sure; things aren't all gonna be explained until the final part!!
1:15 Anyone notice the rainbow effect? Every time that's shown up, it represents an alternate timeline forming. I'm not saying this is a reason to believe anything. But, given the fact that it's shown up every time Zack made a decision, that would seem to mean something significant has happened that we're just not being shown.
according to the creators they are not changing the fact of her death sadly. Though techincally she is more powerful than ever, and she is fighting Sephiroth in the Life stream across all worlds.
@@jkranites Actually, there's a debate going on on another video. We're going with the idea that Aerith has died in the Prime timeline. However, she still exists in the other timeline that was spun off when Cloud deflected Sephiroth's attack. We're also considering the possibility that her being a Cetra allows her to be connected across all the timelines. This would seem to mean that she's linked to herself in the lifestream in the Prime timeline, her existence in the Deflection timeline, and her unconscious self in the Zack Prime timeline.

Aerith's death is probably the most spoiled and well known event in gaming history. Kinda glad they did it this way, the way the are portraying Cloud's descent to a complete mental breakdown is insane. It gives Tifa a much more meaningful role in the third game, and Aerith being stuck in this weird parallel worlds limbo can potentially have more effects than just activating Holy.
@@luigi19987 the original scene was also a lot more quiet, personal, and impactful. Sephiroth appearing was sudden and unexpected. And it didn't have random multiverse stuff that makes no sense.
They really fucked this whole scene up. It totally dilutes the emotional impact of her death by essentially resurrecting her into a Johnny Silverhand-like construct in Cloud’s mind.
You gotta remember...she technically became one with the wave and death of body didn't actually mean she died...she just returned to the source. Cloud is part of that wave...all things go into the soup...
They didn't even really let Sephiroth give his speech or let Cloud get all angry about being called empty and talk about how he can feel the tears and pain so he has to be real like wth😭

Cloud changed Aerith’s fate when he blocked Sephiroth. Like what happened on the freeway, time was split. In one path, Sephiroth did kill Aerith, like the original. In another, Aerith is still alive. Cloud is stuck between those worlds, and can’t tell what’s real from what isn’t.
@@AntiNihilist could be that we see it from cloud perspective and he is quite crazy atm and having funeral would be acknowledging her death but he think she still alive
Such a powerful thing to create such a special person as a character of a story along with several others to not only afflict those characters, but also those perceiving these characters. Aerith is definitely a special character, one of the most spiritual for sure.
I really do not understand why he is so fixated on Aerith. He fails to stop her from casting Holy. Plus by killing her, he makes the lifestream sentient(since her spirit lives on in it and can influence it). The real threat to his plans is Tifa, as she repairs Cloud's mind later on and they defeat him.
I know ppl will say "the games 30 years old" but there was a lot of fun theorizing going on that potentially Aerith would survive in the remake- your thumbnail and title right after the game comes out is kind of crappy.
the devs lack balls, her death was a shock in the OG cause you see her get stabbed by his sword and you're powerless to do anything, her death in this dragged on and felt more like watching deadpool trying to die.
devs lack balls.... went on implementing a multivers story everyone seems to hate and didn't back down after backlash but actually going even harder into it on part 2.... if that's not balls, I don't know what is
@@blondafro4112 I’d say it’s more stupidity than balls. Pretty much then going full nose dive into the multiverse bs nonsense is one of the main reasons it’s selling less than Remake after nearly a full blown month
Honestly I feel like half of this confusing ending is just Cloud being a completely unreliable narrator and not showing us what really happened. Aerith is dead and he's seeing things imo completely delulu Edit: I think it's more complicated that he's completely delulu. I think Jenova is making him see things as Aerith at the end cutscenes contradicts herself a lot. I don't trust her.
Part me of me agrees with this take - that Cloud is just in denial and imagining that he saves Aerith. But then how do we account for all of the Zack alternate timeline stuff?
One problem: Nanaki sensed her. We know she’s there, and we know she’s Aerith. It’s a Schroedinger’s Cat situation. Cloud was the only on to cross the threshold, so only he can see her, but his mind also happens to be deteriorating as he draws closer to Sephiroth. I don’t know what will happen in the next game, as this remake has managed to subvert a lot of expectations, but there is no absolute to Aerith’s state of being.
I was disappointed too but with Cloud’s fractured mind showing it would make it real to him. I think he’s going to figure it out next game and you’re doing to see the whole thing and see it break him.
I love what they’re doing with twisting the story and keeping people guessing as to what’s going to happen, I view aeriths death the same way as Gwen Stacy, it’s such common knowledge in pop culture that you cannot replicate it, any and all replications will fall flat because you know what’s going to happen, but square found a way to keep people guessing on her fate by changing the story a little bit, if I wanted to play the same story as the original FF7 I’d just play the original game again
Problem is, if she still ultimately perma dies in any way then it’s gonna feel like, “shoulda just kept it the same”. If she and Zack dies and stays dead it’s ultimately the same story; might be an unpopular opinion to some but they need to survive this time or this whole thing is going to feel like a fat waste of time and it won’t age well.
I think so. Ain’t nobody out there with the right interpretation I can pretty much guarantee it was made not to be understood. There’s too many moments you can debunk with other moments. It’s smart in that it’s got people going into analysis mode after the game. Everyone trying to figure it out and piece it together. Until the end of the next game it’s just a matter of waiting to see how it comes together.
I’m sure like many others, playing Rebirth was to find out if Aerith was gonna live or die, and when the cutscene of Sephiroth coming down with his sword, I literally screamed at the top of my lungs like I was on a roller coaster. When it looked like Cloud saved Aerith by hitting Sephiroth’s sword away, I screamed a “Fuck yeah!!”. But once the blood appeared on the ground, I knew something wasn’t right. The slow motion kicked in with Aerith’s dying body falling forward with Cloud’s reaction of shock and horror. And then, those first notes of Aerith’s theme kicked in, I knew we had been tricked. We have been fooled. It was 1997 again. We then hear Sephiroth laughing at not only Cloud but also us, the gamers. Tears suddenly started flowing from my eyes into my face uncontrollably. 4 years since Remake. 27 years since OG. Countless hours playing Rebirth for this very moment and I felt everything I’ve done was gone to waste in a matter of seconds. And when I finished the game after trying again and again dying fighting Sephiroth, I cried when the credits rolled on screen with “No Promises to Keep” playing in the background. It was finally over. 70+ hours of gameplay. Me playing the game like a crazy maniac these last two weeks including staying up late and playing all day during the weekends. I will always remember Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. I will always remember those 7 seconds.
I was waiting for that moment but never played the OG (can’t avoid Aerith spoiler) It was so intense, there were like 3 scenes where i thought “Oh so it’s gonna happen now”. When Cloud parried Sephiroths sword (and created a timeline where Aerith lives?) it was so amazing. I was excited about what they are gonna do with the parallel universes, but i’m still very confused if she’s fully dead or not.
I feel like people are missing the fact that the games are a different timeline not a true remake things aren't happening like they did cause that already happened this is different Aerith is doing what she didn't get to last time tell cloud goodbye and try to help him with some closure, could they have done the scenes a little better probably but i don't think it's bad, i would have liked to see the water funeral though
@@Drums_of_Liberation yeah but that's the thing about grief real grief doesn't have a "I'm done grieving" point really so he's always going to need closure
No its a true remake taking Compilation content into Account and Telling it in a visuel spectacle using it to let us see what cloud sees her why telling us the truth too.
I think Aerith may eventually have no choice but to explain to him that she didn't survive in his reality. Which means, she'll have to show him he had given his eulogy of her to Sephiroth, and laid her to rest in the lake... I'm certain she was only trying to spare him grief... but in doing so, only set him up to break even harder, when he's made to see he failed to save her.
From seeing the flashes of Cloud saving her, no blood, and the game showing the burial scene I think Cloud thinks he saved Aerith and is in denial of her death. Or there is a timeline of him saving her but her death still happens in this one. The last game better show this whole scene as it was, burial and all.
New world: Look at Cloud sword when he screams no, you see a rainbow of light going up his sword and it’s glows green and you can see a green mist coming from his sword, it reminds me of what Rosa did to Alphreid sword during his fight in the loveless play. Watch how Sephiroth sword landed, it lands straight up. Cloud saves Aerith. OG world: Aerith death scene, look at the position of Sephiroth sword, it’s sideways, I am not sure but does her hair tie look purple? Cloud runs and holds Aerith body, you see flashes back and forth to the OG world she dies, he has tears and muttering words and in the world he saves her no tears. OG world. As the others run, Tifa stops in her tracks, not because Aerith death because she sees blood and no blood she doesn’t understand what is happening but she was in the lifestream. New world: Cloud lays Aerith on her back and he tells her I got this, look at the others they are standing still not moving. OG world, pay attention. As Tifa runs towards Aerith she is laying on her side, remember Cloud lays on her back in the new world. As soon as you see Cloud boots, pause, zoom in, you still see Aerith laying on her side. New world: As Cloud approached Aerith is once again laying on her back, the whispers are flying around Cloud walks through the others disappear, he asks Aerith to wake up she does. Why do you think Sephiroth told Aerith, I must admit I underestimated you. It was Aerith destiny to die in the OG world and she did, creating a new world means she can change her destiny and she did. Cloud isn’t crazy, remember he was injected with Jenova cells and mako when Hojo experimented on him, which is why he sees the rift in the sky, he sees both worlds and the others can’t because they can only see the OG world.
@@vaasmontenegro3728I pity the fools that can’t follow the story even on the visual level. Look closely. IN THE ORIGINAL HAME CLOUD DOESNT CRY! That’s what made it so messed up. Since Cloud was lost in Jenova control, he didn’t feel truly sad, hence he utters the words trying to explain sadness, “my body is shaking, my eyes are burning”. And Sephiroth laughs at him, his puppet faking emotion. Now on Rebirth, he cries for real, no need for words. SERIOUSLY LOOK! It’s the flashback-mode that has Cloud with no tears talking the speech of the original game. While regular bloody-less Cloud is crying like a normal person should.
They really ruined the death scene by switching the glitching timelines and then showing her alive and dead. It felt confusing, empty instead of sorrow, pain, sadness and anger.
THIS! I couldn’t tell what was OUR timeline anymore so I didn’t know whether to feel sad or not. I cried more for Jessie than this honestly because that felt more permanent and real.
Really wish they'd just done a straight remake instead of adding in all this weird timeline bullshit. Aerith's death in the original was a great moment and now it feels like an afterthought to whatever twisty nonsense they're trying to do with the whispers.
@@DigimonVids "play the original then" yeah how about you make a original counterpoint, have you even fucking played the original ff7? have you ever been there to be hyped for the remake or did you buy it off of ps plus someday and you want to defend the free game?
I like the fact they changed it, to be honest. What made her original death so impactful is that no one saw it coming, but 27 years later, her death is probably one of the most iconic in videogame history. They had to find a way to still make it painful without changing the whole thing, and they pulled that off perfectly, in my opinion. Aerith still dies, but the scene remains impactful because the game tricks you into believing you can save her, and the ending scene also expands on just how broken Cloud's mind is at this point. Better than the OG? I don't know. Perfect for a Remake? YES.
Everyone expects her to die, but this isn’t OG. I preach this all of the time, but why add arbiters of fate who happen to change destiny if we get the same outcome? This ending left a bunch of fans with a question mark looming over their heads- as the Devs intended it to be. “Seven seconds to the end”, “I’ve underestimated you”, Zack, the dates with Red and Barret telling Cloud to save Aerith, the early fan base petitioning Nomura to bring Aerith back. I predict they will either give players a choice at the end, or they will kill Cloud. Since the Devs have had threats, that would end the shipping wars.
This is not the OG, as so many people have said. We are seeing different timelines. And you recall Cloud seeing echos in his mind of the original timeline? Now, the developers could curl their tails and get scared and just go with the OG, but I don't think they will.
@jamesellis33 I initially felt the same, especially since the Remake showed scenes of the Advent Children movie and Red said they were "tomorrow, if we fail today" (and in Japanese he literally states "That is the future we are trying to prevent"). The thing is, I read somewhere that the developers confirmed the Remake remains canon to the Advent Children movie, so whatever happens in the OG is gonna happen here as well. They might pull a UNO reverse card with the different timelines, but I'm not sure. I'm very curious. The only thing I know for certain is that I can't wait for Part 3 XD.
Theory: Cloud, who broke the established will of the planet, can now see between the multiple worlds he changed. Ultimately, it will be needed to defeat Sephiroth, who wants to use convergence and bring all these worlds together.
The original was so much better, the dialog from clouds emotional pain in the original was perfect and conveyed in away that made you feel it too. This one scene was the only thing in this new series I wanted to stay exactly the same word for word. This was the scene that got me truly hooked on the ff series. A true diservice to the memory of the original game.
When Cloud blocked Sephiroth's masamune he created a parallel world where he saved Aerith but that doesn't affect prime world so she still dies. You can see that rainbow glow after Aerith dies. This rainbow glow symbolizes the birth of new parallel world.
@@twilightnite13whispers were there to keep things as they were in the OG timeline. It was Sephiroths plan to have the party beat them so they can’t interfere in the same way anymore and now even the whispers are self serving where the white ones are not concerned with timelines anymore only keeping the planet alive and the black ones are controlled by Sephiroth. Them killing the OG whispers allowed for all this timeline stuff to happen in the first place
@@twilightnite13this is my question too. What was the significance of defeating the Aribters of Fate if we just revert to the original timeline and fate carries out exactly the same way?
Really loved the way the handled this. I figured they couldn’t just do the same thing again and this worked well for me. Felt like Cloud couldn’t save Aerith no matter what and that’s real sad to me. Cody’s voice acting was so good here also. Don’t know why people r so confused over the ending and saying they messed it up or it’s too “Kingdom Hearts”. Idk man read a plot summary it’s not too complicated.
Im saying this as someone pretty much fully on-board with all the weird kingdom hearts timeline bs they've been implementing: they fumbled this. I didn't have a strong reaction bc i didn't expect it to be like the original, but they should have at least given us the scene of her being laid to rest
I think they purposely didn’t show it because Cloud believes she isn’t dead. They’ll prob show the burial scene when he gets his real memories back in the final game.
I wholeheartedly believe that in Part 3 when Cloud fully recovers mentally we will have the true flashbacks of all the major events that happened including this and we’ll see the full OG Aerith conclusion. That’s why I’m not totally upset by this ending because the more I think about it the more I’m interested in where they’re headed. However it does worry me a little cuz they could spiral into a ray of more confusing unnecessary plot paths or tie it in very carelessly.
Am I the only one who was slightly disappointed by how they played Aerith’s theme on a single piano and not a full orchestra in this scene? You would think that one of the most famous deaths in modern entertainment would have some kind of grandness in the soundtrack, you know?
If you look how team four star did it, they had a solo piano and to me it was more heartwrenching than this one. The flah backs did not help either. It made it more sad
4:17 Sephiroth says "a confluence of worlds." This implies to me that Cloud created a new timeline when stopping Sephiroth from killing Aerith. This new timeline and the original are now converging. They both exist, but they can't both exist. Causing Cloud to see Aerith as both alive and dead.
For anyone confused or upset that they "changed" how aerith died or messed up the scene, i actually think its done really well. If you paid attention to the main premise of the game youll know she is part of the life stream aka mako energy. Cloud and Zack even Sephiroth are infused with mako energy. Hence why Zack and cloud can still talk to her and feel her presence and why cloud wasnt sad like everyone else was after she died. And it's also how she's gonna help stop the meteor In the next game, because she's one with the planet now. She will control the power to help stop the meteor. Think of it as seeing a force ghost in star wars. Only force users can see not regular people. Like when Luke saw Yoda and obiwan and Lea could not. She's still technically dead but lives on within the life force itself.
@@我是吉打人 I also think that aerith is still alive in the alternate universe where Zack is from and can travel between them like sephiroth can because he has control of the black whispers, while aerith controls the white ones, but in clouds universe she's actually dead. That's why she was able to teleport where cloud was to help him fight sephiroth in the final fight she also helped Zach fight him when sephiroth went to Zach's universe. So my theory is either she's alive in the other universe and can travel and communicate between universes like sephiroth can, or she's alive within the life stream and is one with the planet
A new timeline was created when Cloud saved her. There’s a timeline where she lives past this point and this timeline where she dies (yet again). What we don’t know for sure is what timeline we will continue on in when the next installment comes. I want y’all to think about this-every time that rainbow light shows up a new reality is born but because we never saw another Stamp after this point we don’t know if we finished the game playing an “offshoot reality” or if “OUR” Cloud (the one we been playing Remake/Rebirth) was the one that saved Aerith. Over the course of the game we see 5 different realities-whose to say we stayed finished the game in the same one? 🤔
New world: Look at Cloud sword when he screams no, you see a rainbow of light going up his sword and it’s glows green and you can see a green mist coming from his sword, it reminds me of what Rosa did to Alphreid sword during his fight in the loveless play. Watch as Cloud deflects Sephiroth sword you see rainbows like in the church and sleepy forest, remember the white whispers were with Aerith before her death.
We do know that, because Cloud can see cracked sky in the end, we know that this is “new world that was born and is doomed to fade” . Personally I believe that Aerith lives in current timeline, one that we experience from the remake, why? From the moment Cloud approached her kneeling, this is that timeline, and so he deflects the blow, in that timeline. Only after Sephiroth lands with his sword in ground the image distorts and we see new reality born. Did notice , in the scene with Sephiroth sword in ground, just before blood appears on the floor that background/floor changed slightly after that distortion?
Sooo... to recap: 1. In Original : Cloud believes that he's a SOLDIER but at least he quickly realized that Aerith is dead. 2. In Rebirth : Cloud believes that he's a SOLDIER and he also believe (or at least not accepting the truth) that Aerith is dead. That's why he's not that sad. Tifa is sad because she is a sane person, she accept Aerith's death, but she's also sad watching Cloud suffering from this acute hallucination. Square is torturing Cloud even more in this remake version.. poor young man.. (The funny thing is, some people in the comment section are also believe that Aerith is still alive, so they're as delusional as Cloud ☠☠💀)
It was just too confusing. It makes sense, of course, but it's a little weird. I just realized Aerith is dead when she appears near the airplane and then disappears.
So did the devs come up with the breaking fate bit to get our hopes up just so they can break our hearts by killing of Aerith anyway? And why'd they have to show us succeding just for it to be (assumably) an alternate World which might not even impact our Story again? My Heart T.T
So I believe Cloud and the Party are in two separate timelines, Cloud entering the Altar alone through the wall of whispers signifies to me, Cloud entering the timeline where he saves Aerith. Where as the party remains in the timeline where Aerith dies. When Sephiroth stabs her and merges the timelines, notice how Cloud gets visions of his speech to Sephiroth, which would be the parties current timeline and when Tifa runs up the first thing she notices is blood which is her current timeline but her visions show without blood, which would be Clouds timeline that he entered through the whispers. Because of the merge, I believe the party and Cloud to be in two different timelines simultaneously experiencing both at once. In the end scene in the field. When Cloud mentions not to look at the sky. We saw the same/a similar tear in Aeriths 'dream' which turned out to be yet another timeline, a doomed one. If Aerith and Cloud can see it and Barrett etc can't, surely that would mean Aerith and Cloud are in a doomed timeline where as Barrett and Co are not.
I know it's hard to understand the story when your stomach is in knots, but Aerith didn't die. Tifa had static and saw two worlds. One, Aerith is covered in blood. Two, Cloud blocked Sephiroth and Aerith isn't harmed. Now, here's how you know which is which. Seph said the true black materia is in the World Between Worlds. So he needed to force Cloud and company into that world, in order to get the black materia. The static Tifa saw *is* the leap into the other world: Feb 29th is Leap day. The WBW Temple is not on the Northern continent, only in the Main real world. The WBW is the OG game, having the temple in the South. Cloud understands it's an illusion, from the crack in the sky, and he made it clear to Seph that he didn't think Aerith was an illusion in the final battle. Cissnei doesn't feel Zack is dead either. Cloud is not simply creating his own narrative. Their worlds had a "sorrowful parting", which is what Cait said is what happens to lovers in the Gold Saucer opera event. In the ending, Zack comments on the worlds reuniting again. No, we fans have won 1) the ship war, and 2) saved Aerith. It just hurts like heck. If Aerith died, why are they still hiding whether Bri will work on part 3?
The same kind of theories were present during the previous part and the biggest points were Aerith getting saved that stuff clearly didn't happen from the obvious party reaction but now we are assuming that he saved her in another timeline so that matters in what way? We can just make up another theory that Jenova is fooling cloud we can make another where Cloud sees a forceghost of her another theory can be made about the fights with Zack and Aerith were they even there at all or just an imagination? None of this is enough to make claims at this point.

Yeah, from what I think we have: - Rebirth's new timeline: Cloud saves Aerith. (this is the one we PLAY) - Original timeline: Aerith dies. - A third timeline, let's call it the "Reunion Timeline" (the one where we END the game): Aerith from Rebirth's timeline makes her way into the Original timeline helping Cloud fighting Sephiroth creating a totally new timeline (as Sephiroth explains) Aerith says that she cannot stay in that timeline and has to go. (Also Sephiroth saying that her job has been done and she doesn't belong there (in that reality)).
@@twilightnite13 look at my previous comment, we end the game in a third diferent timeline, the one where Aerith dies but helping Cloud in the end and changing the events from the original timeline into a third new one. Obviously, when we're playing Cloud we're likely to see Aerith form time to time... along with the giant rending crack in the sky, meaning we're in the Doomed Reality. From other perspectives, we won't be seeing the scar in the sky... or Aerith. This is the Main Reality.

@@NIDELLANEUM It is difficult to do it justice, but it isn't as hard as one would expect. Unfortunately both FF7 Remake and Rebirth suffer from incredibly absurd decisions when it comes to story. When that R2 and L2 appeared and I realized Cloud was fighting against fate to save her, nothing else mattered. Almost broke my controller smashing that shit. And when their swords clashed and the music began it almost felt like we were fighting against the God of fate themselves to stop such a thing from happening. @@mcgfn NO REASON!?!? WE DESERVE TO BE WITH AERITH. Tiffa simps have been eating too good for too long. Why must we be the ones to get fucked over every single time!?!?
This scene lost the emotions I had when Aerith died in the OG. They didn't show Aerith getting stabbed, they also didn't include the scene where Cloud carries her to the water. They should've just shown that scene instead of trying to make the audience give hope that Aerith is still alive in some alternate timeline, which imho doesn't matter since the only thing that matter is the timeline I am playing! That being said, the ending made Cloud looked like a a Shizophrenic ; They really had Cloud show no emotions on Aerith's death. It looked like he thinks Aerith is still alive.
Psssst..... That's the point. We're gonna see the real scene in the lifestream later with Tifa trying to snap Cloud out of it and that's when he's gonna realize what really happened. It's part 2 boss. Let em cook
Even though I agree, the point IS that Cloud thinks she's still alive and he saved her because of his ruined mind. We actually get glimpses of the real death scene when the game switches from living Aerith to dead Aerith with the trademark green static effect for Cloud's brain warping the world around him. There, he's shown to be speaking to Sephiroth, like in the OG, but we can't hear his words. I think the real scene (+burial) will be shown in part 3 when Tifa repairs Cloud's mind.
"What is fridging?" "Well, it's the practice of killing off or hurting a female character in order to motivate or torture the main character, also known as Final Fantasy VII, thank you for asking."
Sephiroths speech after Aeriths death might be my favorite Sephiroth moment Loss transforms fleeting momemts of happiness into rage hatred and sadness Those emotions have never been felt deeper than in that very moment andbhe loves it! And then the end of the final fight where Aeirth steps out and light just takes over Every step just floods the area with light and rainbow effects It just invades his darkness and shines bright AF This game was letting everyone definitively know the real battle has Always been Aerith Vs Sephiroth Thats why he tried to use Cloud to kill her The only person who had Jenova Cells that wasnt deteriorating. He was Sephiroths only hope to get rid of her bcuz he knows she is the ONLY person who can truly stop him SO GOOD!
Everyone who is confused and upset about the ending is feeling exactly what the devs want. We are cloud, we are experiencing the confusion and anger of loss.
It would be disappointing if ultimately he’s only shown as saving her as part of some sort of trauma response. It doesn’t seem valid enough of a reason to diminish her death in these scenes. Like ok clouds nuts… what’s new?
@@annakatharinasponagel4630 It's just so beautiful. I'm guessing the track has yet to be released. If I ever find it, I'll reply to your comment. Good luck, friend.
For those who keep saying that Cloud is just making up the fact that he saved Aerith in his mind. Then let me tell you this, you guys are wrong. Cloud did saved Aerith, or at least her Remake/Rebirth self. How do I know this? Remember that Aerith's white Materia, from her Remake timeline, has turned hollow at some point in the game and she shows this to Red XIII right after she took a shower. Meanwhile, the white materia that falls from Aerith's body in the temple is still full. Which means that the Aerith that got killed at the temple is not her Rebirth-self, but probably her other versions, most likely her OG self.
Remember what happened after the Temple of the Ancients: Cloud ended up in another parallel timeline (an offshoot of Zack's), where he and Aerith had their stroll around Midgar. At the end of that segment, that time line's Aerith gave Cloud her white Materia in the church before sending him back to the Remake timeline. In the Remake timeline, he gave that white Materia to Aerith, who gave him her hollow one in return. So by the time we get to her death scene, she has a functioning white Materia (from the Zack-adjacent timeline) while the "hollow" white Materia (from the Remake timeline) is in Cloud's possession.
I just beat the game today and this is exactly why I avoided searching anything ff7. If I needed help I would go private browsing first and also avoided comments. So happy I don’t have to be ultra afraid of spoilers anymore 😂
This story is stupid and ultimately pointless. What was the point of saving Biggs, saving Zack, and implying fate could and has been changed at the end of remake if events still play out ultimately same for the main canon and Aerith still dies in the end? This on top of handling Aerith's death in most confusing way possible, on top of the FF7 lore having a mutiverse that's not a multiverse but is at the same time just really makes me wish they just stuck retelling the original plot of FF7 in it's entirety.
Yeah, we are playing in the original timeline with the addition of the multiverse stuff where we can see how things could have been if things happened in a different way, nothing has been changed so far in the original world (the one we are playing). Nomuna loves adding timelines and parallel worlds on his games.
Okay, so in main timeline everything went as it originally did, but what if- after taking cloud’s consciousness to the alternate dimension we see from the “dream sequence” he is now split between the two separate realties? So in the main timeline.. Aerith does die, but cloud is seeing in to the alternate dimension and is spoken to by the Aerith that DID survive. So that’s why we see him cutting back and forth before Aerith tells him it’s okay, when the rest of the group doesn’t see her speak at all. (And her arm is covered in blood in the main timeline, but not the alternate) maybe this is also why only he is able to see the crack in the sky at the end of the game? (Multiple realities merging) This is why cloud is in denial of her death and we don’t see his original speech or the water burial. I believe main aerith (from ff7 remake) is dead and has shared her memories with the lifestream and somehow cloud is able to see parts of the alt reality
Her death is an illusion, created by Sephiroth just to mind fk Cloud, and Sephiroth was unaware how Aerith willingly plays along with his manipulation of Cloud, Aerith is killed in og, ffs! She's already part of the lifestream, people think it's a sequel, when infact it is part of the compilation to og ffvii, I guess all will be revealed in part 3. The last part of rebirth was a dream/illusion, it ends when Zack wakes up. 🤫
I remember being a child playing the original and I can remember the death shocking me. When the moment came to hammer the buttons I felt so much adrenaline 😂 then relief, then heartache again. Yes there’s the kingdom hearts nonsense but I love this game and the characters.
Yeah…this sucks. I just flat don’t enjoy any facet of this. It’s like 2 fake out deaths in one scene followed by Sephiroth being ANOTHER boss fight despite him only be fought ONCE in the original game. I understand making changes to suit the narrative…but this narrative is just no fun to me
Goddamnit I am so *sick* of TH-cam recommending videos with titles that spoil the end of games on my feed that I did not seek out! I haven’t had time to play it recently…and sure enough! 😤
My thoughts is that cloud DID Block Sephiroth. Sephiroths eyes are showing surprise, and Joy, because it's made a "limbo" timeline. And Cloud's Distorted mind is in between both. Glitching shows the original events, and the new timeline events. The fight with OG aerith against sephiroth when she purifies lifestream black (EOC) puts sephiroth at disadvantage because clouds between pulled into lifestream black, hence why sephiroth is a disadvantage. He becomes more powerful when lifestream black is his playground.
Or the glitching could be schizo clouds way of trying hard to cope with Aerith's death. You can see throughout all the ending cutscenes that Cloud is so messed up. It's all over everyone's faces too especially Tifa.
It lacks some emotional music, and I think maybe SQUARENIX can make those scene hits harder by making Cloud screaming like a mad person (Crying with so much tears too) and also play No Promises To Keep when Cloud crying. Maybe you can secure GOTY
Developed? He's had it since the beginning of the game. Sephiroth fucking with him and this traumatic event is making him worse. I love how Aerith in the Rebirth timeline could easily be a figment of clouds reality.
No he’s just able to interact with both timelines just like Aerith. Aerith dies in the regular timeline so she has to return to the old timeline where she was in a coma with Cloud and zack.

At 1:15 Cloud created a new parallel world where he saved Aerith.
Thank you."
Now we have 2 Aeriths alive (terrier world Aerith who is in coma and this new world Aerith) and 1 Aerith dead (main beagle world)
Sephiroth told Cloud that everytime the fate gets breached a new parallel world gets created.

Its a combination of both scenarios
The aerith(s) of remake and rebirth are all connected.
Music and environmental modeling is top notch though

Just playing the first remake should have been a tell of what is to come...also you are paying 60-70 dollars x 3 times+dlc for what casted 40 dollars once back then....jesus crist sony is skinning you people.
In the third game the moment Cloud going to realise that he not succeed to save her gonna be hearthbreaking moment
I still believe he can save her the duality of worlds isn’t written we saw in the remake they changed the timeline aeriths life is still in the balance I believe
I think if the player's went for Aerith route, he would save her or be with her in the world where she's alive
They never address this, but shouldn't Yuffie have a fear of Sephiroth? Considering his involvement in the war, he should be the Wutaian equivalent of a boogeyman.
Too young to remember? Yuffie strikes me more of someone who’s be like “Sephiroth? Whatever I’ll kick his butt” just to prove how tight she is
Can't fear something that wasn't witnessed, and Sephiroth left no witnesses. Also tbf I'm pretty sure Sephy dealt with the best fighters, not the most
Sephiroth has materia, right?
I doubt Yuffie made it to the battlefield where Sephiroth was wrecking havoc and slaughtering Wutai soldiers.
If you play crisis core, Zack meets yuffie so she must know.
N e r d
You Clearly know why it’s called rebirth and that’s hilarious lol it’s a remake not a remaster the story had changed
Then what was Tifa seeing? Looks like there were “glitches” in her POV too at 03:54
@@WilliamZheng757 Tifa isn't necessarily seeing that.
Aerith tells Cloud “I see what you did there, thank you” and Seph says to them “I underestimated you.”
Just like in part one how we changed fate to allow Zack to live, we have now changed fate to let Aerith, both will culminate in part 3.

Square made Sephiroth look like a dumb fool for not following up on his failed attempt to kill Aerith in a world line where she was saved. And an even bigger fool out of Cloud for leaving Aerith unprotected from Sephiroth in the rebirth ending scene, assuming she's from another world line.
That time when Cloud is asking Aerith to wake up, it's Cloud's theme (Main theme) playing? 😭
Exactly! Cloud see what he wants! 😢
Yeah, that's why at the end it shows Tifa can't see aerith
The story of the original FF7 was confusing enough as it was. I can't even begin to comprehend all this Kingdom Hearts tier nonsense going on in the remake with multiple timelines.

I don't think it's a multi verse. I think the others are in the lifestream unaware they are dead. But now Aerith is dead she will join them and tell them they are dead and they need to help the living, and that's how the lifestream destroys Meteor in the end. Because all the deceased in the lifestream come together to save the planet. If that's the case, I think that's beautiful

At 1:15 Cloud created a new parallel world where he saved Aerith. If you pay attention to the scene it goes back and forth between dead Aerith who is covered in blood and uninjured Aerith who opens her eyes and smiles.
Thank you."
Now we have 2 Aeriths alive (terrier world Aerith who is in coma and this new world Aerith) and 1 Aerith dead (main beagle world)
Sephiroth told Cloud that everytime the fate gets breached a new parallel world gets created. We see this with Zack. When he decided to go see Hojo and get cure for Cloud 2 a rainbow light appeared and a new parallel world was created where he decided to go save Biggs instead. Then there is another parallel world where Zack can't decide whether he should save Aerith, Cloud or Biggs and this is the world where Aerith and Cloud have their dream date and where she giver her white materia to Cloud and pushes him back to main world where he gives a working white materia to main world Aerith.
I actually used her as a combat mage and cloud as a combat medic. Although I made sure everyone could use some level of Cure and Raise just in case.
Sephiroth did the thing.....again.
@@jkranitesSo what you're saying is that when he struck her down she became more powerful than he could possibly imagine...?
@@jkranites Actually, there's a debate going on on another video. We're going with the idea that Aerith has died in the Prime timeline. However, she still exists in the other timeline that was spun off when Cloud deflected Sephiroth's attack. However, only Cloud can see her because he sees the tear in the sky after Aerith's death, something that Zack can see as well. We're also considering the possibility that her being a Cetra allows her to be connected across all the timelines. This would seem to mean that she's linked to herself in the lifestream in the Prime timeline, her existence in the Deflection timeline, and her unconscious self in the Zack Prime timeline.

Seph does try to break cloud and Tifa the entire game? He's the reason cloud said so many hurtful things to her and even tried to kill her.

Honestly I feel like half of this confusing ending is just Cloud being a completely unreliable narrator and not showing us what really happened. Aerith is dead and he's seeing things imo completely delulu
Edit: I think it's more complicated that he's completely delulu.
Damn. Animations have come a long way. As a kid this shit didn’t struct me, but now as an adult, it’s when it truly hurts. Effing Sephiroth man…
I really hope we get to see the actual scene in the next game, with the water burial and everything
Me too I was so fucking disappointed lol
Cloud didn't need closure though. That was the whole point of Advent Children.

Ffs save her at least

WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!!! I THOGUHT CLOUD SAVED AERITH FROM HER DEATH!
He did... in the reality she made to protect him.
In the main reality... not so much.
When Cloud blocked Sephiroth's masamune he created a parallel world where he saved Aerith but that doesn't affect prime world so she still dies.
You can see that rainbow glow after Aerith dies. This rainbow glow symbolizes the birth of new parallel world.
@@NordicWiseguy But then why did they fight the Whispers at the end of the Pt1 remake only for part of it to come true in Pt2 of the remake?
This sequel disguised as a remake is really something
No, because that would be Cloud acknowledging Aerith's death.
I think they purposely didn’t show it because Cloud believes she isn’t dead. They’ll prob show the burial scene when he gets his real memories back in the final game.
Cloud is obviously unaware of Aerith's outcome. It'll be revealed on a certain part of the third game in a reactor
However it does worry me a little cuz they could spiral into a ray of more confusing unnecessary plot paths or tie it in very carelessly.
because she's not dead
5:11
I don't why but I love Cloud's delivery here, you can really tell that by this point he's done with Sephiroth's mind games
Yea it's really rare for cloud to sound this upset
How that was the lamest Shutup I’ve ever heard
Finally I saw someone who used the 'force ghost' concept to explain why Cloud can see Aerith after her death. I am not alone.

Sooo... to recap:
I think that’s what they’re going for. They’re putting players in the eyes of Cloud
It was just too confusing. It makes sense, of course, but it's a little weird. I just realized Aerith is dead when she appears near the airplane and then disappears.
You’re completely delusional, Cloud isn’t crazy
The flash back of Cloud speaking is from the OG where he says “Aerith will no longer cry, get angry etc”
So did the devs come up with the breaking fate bit to get our hopes up just so they can break our hearts by killing of Aerith anyway? And why'd they have to show us succeding just for it to be (assumably) an alternate World which might not even impact our Story again? My Heart T.T
Because Cloud’s mind isn’t stable lol
Cloud blocking out everything even what he’s saying while it is happening, is heartbreaking
*Sephiroth monologing*
"Can you like shut up." - Butt-head
omg, one of the most iconic scenes in vg history, and they totally destroyed it in the remake
Reality distortion is scary
Not to mention three realities starting to collapse on each other. Jenova don't even need to try

Same, man. If Part 3 gives me the choice of saving either Aerith or the whole world of OG FF7, I know whom I'm choosing.
All I care about is her dying, because that is the story.

(Multiple realities merging)
This is why cloud is in denial of her death and we don’t see his original speech or the water burial.
And people thought she was gonna live, Square was like, nope!
@@Ineedmoney4123they did destroy fate in the last game
