The only thing I want Grain SA to do is to get rid of the SAFEX Wheat Transport Differential. They deduct R800 for every ton of wheat we produce in the Western Cape. Since last year the diesel price came down by R7/liter but the differential went up. The cost to transport wheat to Randburg is actually a lot less than R800. Why the Differential is needed in the first place?? Most of the wheat produced in the Western Cape doesn't even leave the province??

This is an exact comment that is needed. I as a CA (sA) and study of the markets and geopolitics wotldwide don't know all the insides of agriculture. I do use "TheWheatPrice" as an crucial indicator in valuation calculations. South Africa has/had the best farmers in the world and through my calculations I predict food and water shortages as the begist risk in our country. From 30000 farmers in 1980 to 4000 in 2007. Since 2007 SA did not needed to import food and could still export wheat. I predicted a loaf of bread to cost R120. I believe in feeding your own population, but farmers can't survive with the weak Rand and very important farmmurders. Children do not want to follow their parents into farming. Chinese wheat is of a shocking standard.

One thing for sure is that the farming & agricultural side plays a very big role into a countries economic structure. Not only do the farmers feed us but the spin off from farmers in the sense that farmers need a whole lot of equipment to run a farm. These spin offs create a whole lot of other jobs in the different supply sectors. Just like the mining sector if farming collapses as happened in Zimbabwe the country will go into a serious food security situation. The Zimbabwe farmers are still going but alot went to Zambia & now Zambia is selling food to Zimbabwe from the same farmers that left the farms that they left.

What is it exactly that the brown and black farmers want?
What is talking about here is openening up markets for ALL farmers regardless of your colour.
Make sure of Foodsecurity for ALL citizens of South Africa regardless of colour.
Better Education for ALL regardless of colour, at institutions for farming because of the collapse of most of those institutions by government over the past 30 years. Responsibility of Minister of agriculture
Safety and security to ALL farmers, their families and workers, regardless of colour. (Responsibility of the Minister of police and SADF)
That is the problems in the farming community and in the whole of South Africa.
You heard he said farmers don't get subsidized, (for instances like lost because of stock theft, droughts, floods, all weather related issues pests and pest control.
Shipping and moving foods to the towns to get food on ALL South Africans table. (WE NEED RAILWAY AND TRUCKING AND HARBOUR Cold storage etc. Which is the responsibility of the Transport minister which are an ANC cadre)
Is there something the black and brown farmers specifically want other than that.)
This is a part of the economic sector you must have good work ethic, dicipline , knowledge of nature and the ground, decision making, planning for future growth. (to make plans and execute it if something does not work, guts to withstand all the setbacks. faith, lots of faith in your creator.
These things the Minister cannot help you with. That is the farmers responsibility. The minister cannot take your hand and show you how to farm. A farmer knows how to farm.

Don't you think that, that comunnial lands should made into seperate farms and be sold to black farmers it is for blacks after all. A meeting between, the president, the minister, the tribal leaders and black farmers should be hold for that. Start by asking the minister for such a meeting. The drought the minister can do nothing about.
Farmers need to know when the rainy season come, and plan for water in non rainy seasons, how much cattle their peace of land for grazing can take, or how much water they need. Or how to care for the animals. Farming is not about owning cattle but to manage those cattle and farms for sustainability. It is not the ministers job to decide that. That descion making is the farmers responsibility. That is called farming.
