How Schreiber making good on making Home Affairs SA economy’s “growth facilitator”

  • In just 88 days since he was appointed South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, 36-year-old Dr Leon Schreiber has been operating at warp speed. In this update with BizNews editor Alec Hogg, Schreiber shares details on the numerous fixes that were introduced. He explains the results of “magnifying glass” attention to regulatory details. And is confident that the changes being implemented will facilitate a long-overdue tourism boom; resulting in a surge of digitally-enabled ‘nomads’ from rich countries and a work-visa regime that will reverse SA’s decades-long brain drain. Critically, all of this, he says, is being facilitated by politicians from differing backgrounds simply “finding each other” through the Government of National Unity.

Why limit us tourists to three months. Total stupidity the longer that they stay the more US dollars are spent in South Africa. Total idiocy. Thank you Leon. Please make South Africa great.

Similarly, the Australian immigration system is an outstanding one to use as a baseline. You can get an entry visa as a tourist in less than 10 minutes if you have all the required information. I am not saying that it will be easy to achieve but we must set our aims high rather than low.

If Home Affairs outsource visa approvals to Tourist Companies in other countries, then those Tourist Companies should be taxed in South Africa (the Tourist company will effectively become digital consulates for South Africa which means, ito Vienna Convention, that their premises are as good as South African soil...which means the source their income is South Africa, which means, as non resident companies, that they should pay tax on the money they are diverting away from the South African fiscus). If this is the case then by all means offshore Home Affairs to China land.

This argument makes no sense at all. The goal is to grow the economy by getting people routing for you overseas and getting people into your country, the worst counterproductive thing would be to now grab tax income in an attempt to fill state coffers. This is exactly the communist type of argument that cost this country over the past 30 years and cost this country millions of jobs and opportunities lost for young people. Just do business, not politics and the figures will look after themselves.

If matters not if a hotel group can pay its bills, the resources they consume is the limiting factor affecting every South African citizen. The iiresponsible activities of tour operators has a further detrimental impact on our Natural environs.

Who are these foreigners getting the jobs? What is their background? Are the foreigners being favored over the locals because those particular group of foreigners being specially looked after. Before looking outside the country, were local South Africans sought for these jobs. Are the 11000 coming to work here, trainers? Will they be able to train South Africans?
Tourism: Australia is closer to China, that's why people go more there. This close distance means cheaper flights. Just like Far Easterners rather come to South Africa rather than go to Brazil because of the distance and cost of the flight.

Did you know that a highly educated country like Ireland has a shortage of skills a truck drivers. Many South Africans are driving trucks there. Go and google different countries and see their needs for special skills. It has nothing to do with degrees. Please stop thinking if you have a degree you have to get a job.
