How Schreiber making good on making Home Affairs SA economy’s “growth facilitator”

- In just 88 days since he was appointed South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, 36-year-old Dr Leon Schreiber has been operating at warp speed. In this update with BizNews editor Alec Hogg, Schreiber shares details on the numerous fixes that were introduced. He explains the results of “magnifying glass” attention to regulatory details. And is confident that the changes being implemented will facilitate a long-overdue tourism boom; resulting in a surge of digitally-enabled ‘nomads’ from rich countries and a work-visa regime that will reverse SA’s decades-long brain drain. Critically, all of this, he says, is being facilitated by politicians from differing backgrounds simply “finding each other” through the Government of National Unity.

Oh it doesn't work, I tried to call this morning, it doesn't go through. I just an email, not even an automated response
Let there be a change
We love the good work
It’s nice of us to have made it easier for foreigners. Wouldn’t it be nice if we South Africans had the same ease of travel to other countries? What are we doing about the strength of our own passport?
He did say that he will deal with the issue of Ireland and England and sort our why South Africans' rights for visa free travel were withdrawn,
nigerian "tourists" that never go back home? This guy should sort corruption in his department. That's what makes South Africa poor.
That's what he is doing. Give him time. 30 year mess he has to sort out
He spoke about this near the end of the interview. He wants to digitize the processes at Home Affairs to prevent corrupt human interventions
Leon!!! Jou blerrie Yster!!!! Mag dit reën waar jou bokke wei ❤
Wat?
@Leon, wont attracting skills hurt our local unemployment rate. Cant we upskill local resources rather and also dig into the unemployment numbers.
He mentioned in the interview. For every 1 highly skilled foreigner coming into the country, 7 to 8 new South African jobs are created
Never! Skilled people are an asset thar we will benefit from.
@@GaragePie22 Rubbish. I am a South African skilled worker in the UK, we seem to think only foreigners have skills South Africans have skills too. Our skills are as good as any British person. A country that wants to tackle inequality and wants to be recognised as a prosperous country need to take care of its own people and not leave them behind.
@@Tinker8531 Why are you practising your South African skills in the UK?
Awesome Honorable Minister. May the Lord keep you
Great ideas and initiatives, but please reconsider the purchasing of residential property by foreigners. Foreigners should only be allowed to lease property long term. South Africans cannot compete against the Dollar/Pound.

Can always build more houses on SA land. Foreign benefits our economy! We are selling them a product that can be produced again using lots of labour there by creating jobs!
Why don't you interview anc ministers
Home affairs will empower the Nation... Go DA, Go !!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic! Everything he is doing makes so much sense! The economy will grow with guys like this in leadership! Well done!
Go Dr Shreiber. Fantastic work you are doing.
Patricia De Liar Minister of Tourism? Why is she still a minister? She never ensured the insurance was paid for the parliament building yet she is still a minister
Why are you still here. Did you not say South African Blacks are lazy, dronklappe and unwed single mothers. Thought you would have taken your cheap exploitative self to Malawi by now. But no, you busy stalking our Ministers.
Why on earth were those visas all not done in the past??? 😢
Thank goodness they will now get sorted!
Aesome results SIR 👏👏👏👏 GETTING THINGS DONE truely amazing when there is a man with SKILL INTEGRITY HARD WORKING !!!! What he can achieve 👍👍👍
What is the mandate of the minister of home affairs.
The minister must be moved from home affairs,
How do you prioritize foreigners over the citizens.
You are misplaced. Go to tourism

He mentioned in the interview. For every 1 highly skilled foreigner coming into the country, 7 to 8 new South African jobs are created
Fascinating Mr Schreiber. I applaud you for your dedication to your responsibility and your foresight of how Home Affairs can contribute to the South African economy and eventually the benefit for all.
Excellent work by the new minister, the previous ministers were just sleeping and getting salary for doing nothing
Leon Schreiber is awesome; the man is getting forced hate for no reason... He is doing a great job.
I was about to comment kanti you also commented 😂 wussup Danny - TMAN
The queues are still long at the DHA. There is a network challenge. Lack of personnel is still a problem. One official is doing different jobs. After you have taken your ID photos, you are still going to wait for the same official to help you pay for your ID. He is only concentrating on work visas.
@@sellomonama7797 it took 30 years to get this low. Do not expect it to recover in a couple of months
Leon, you are great. But living in a fool's paradise if you think the ANC won't bite you when the time is right. This GNU is ANC wallpaper. Watch Tshwane
Helen Zille she's controlled too much her people
Well done Minister Schreiber. We finally have voices in parliament, albeit a small crowd, who can walk the talk.
We worked with German exchange students and their parents complained about our Embassy in Germany, they are send back and forth or dates of appointments are changed the flights are booked and the can't get their documents on time. I hope they sort that out. The parents complained how rude our people are at the embassy
Mooi werk Leon.
I hope the minister will keep doing this wonderful job🎉
Finally a minister with intelligent brain and motivation
Dr. Shrieber in 120 days your skills and vast adadamic qualification proves that when we employ the right people for the job, we certainly will get positive results. For the past 30 years the our previous government employed unskilled cadres who did not know what the hell they where doing. You are now fixing the mess that was created. We Salute you for a job well done.
Thank god that we finally a minister of home affairs with a brain and able to make a positive change. My story at 2005 as an American married to a south African took me seven years to get my permanent resident visa. It was lost twice by these idiots. Then another two years to have my id issued. Why limit us tourists to three months. Total stupidity the longer that they stay the more US dollars are spent in South Africa. Total idiocy. Thank you Leon. Please make South Africa great.

I still have issue with Squirrel beefing up the parliment appointments it was devious and he cannot be trusted no matter how happy and relaxed he may be seen to be because there are now functional competent people that are ministers not from the ANC.
th-cam.com/video/1qD34c7RQB4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KEGAQBMly1Cdtw64
Would your guest be willing to speak to the issue raised by the Citizen Concerned channel, with regards to Home Affairs outsourcing foreigners Visa applications to a foreign country?. The question by the host was, could SA not benefit from the visa costs? Ie, why should a foreign country benefit financially rather than SA, from these visa applications?
That should be priority, we had too much corruption for too long.Clean up and improve Minister you are doing a sterling job so far.
The company is probally owned by the Gupthas and Malusi and Aaron.
Now please immediately transfer Schreiber to the SA Police Services, then Education, Health & Postal Services?
Wow, Home Affairs blatantly offshoring their responsibilities to Tourist Companies in places like China. Then the "second big opportunity" per Schreiber is to get "Nomads" here, who won't have to pay any tax because we should be so grateful they are spending money here (all of us who live here spend money....just because a Nomad use AirBnB shouldn't really be a factor when it comes to their employers NOT registering for PAYE at SARS).
Let’s give him a chance and see
Or rather: let's give the tourist companies in China and India a chance to control who comes into the country. Schreiber is out of his league and trying to outsource government function to foreign entities.
Exactly! They going to use the illegal immigration problem to go 100% digital ID for citizens too… The DA have zero intentions for citizens, they are the Davos globalist order! The DA is completely corrupt, They just signed off a “wool consignment” why didn’t they keep our wool to produce wool products? They want to fix nothing
@@jonathancrowther4565 And your solution is??
Start off by getting rid of Schreiber, he is a Researcher/academic clearly he doesn't know how to Administrate a Home Office. Then secondly, just do your job and process the visas, lastly, if you want to offshore this function and "share the risks" (???) with foreign entities then make sure they remit corporate income tax on their profits in China and India etc back to the Republic.
Ramaphosa has support in GNU mainly DA. I hope the GNU will take SA to its former economic glory, with the interest of all SAns at heart. The ANC failed to sustain us in the ideals of Mandela.
I will give the minister another chance. Convincing arguments and maybe it makes sense. We will see. 🤛
Awesome Honorable Minister. May the Lord keep you
My daughter applied to renew her passport in London. She had to use an ink pad for her fingerprints. She asked the British lady who worked there whether RSA is the only country still using an ink pad and she said RSA is the only one.
This minister need full support and appreciation
Well done Dr Leon . We appreciate your hard work so that all can benefit.
When you put a none ANC cadre BEE person into a Important position you get Growth
AWARD WINNING MINISTER DR Schreiber 🎉
The ANC stance regarding the Israeli resistance to terrorism must also play a role. With an SA minor group supporting the actions in the Hague, we are alienating both local and international tourists and workers who otherwise would be interested in coming to SA.
You will always lose one set of people and gain another with a political stance . The majority of people in SA lived under Apartheid and back Palestine.
China & India are the fastest growing economies together with the rest of the developing world and this will grow our tourism revenue and keep the majority happy with being on the right side of history
@Kevinpillaby323 well said, 👋👋.
How they going to verify all those credentials because some might be cooked and the government its involved just to ensure that their people are given permission to our country especially china.

Is ramaphosa a prime minister or a presedent and if the latter was he elected by parliment of other states or bestowed to him or self proclaimed 😢😢😢😢reply
Huh???😂😂😂
High jacking and crime is also off-putting to tourists. Australia is a very save country. You need to compare South Africa with Nigeria.
I disagree with your comparison. If we want to move forward and improve we must compare to the desired standard for our future. We want to be more close to the Australian security standards that those in Nigeria. That's the only way to move upwards.
Similarly, the Australian immigration system is an outstanding one to use as a baseline. You can get an entry visa as a tourist in less than 10 minutes if you have all the required information. I am not saying that it will be easy to achieve but we must set our aims high rather than low.
CT is flooded with tourists as we speak. They are made aware of the crime before they land
Its a shame that we had 2 minister who did fokall in sorting out home affairs.... strage but true these 2 cronies are still in parliamnet defending all their f....k ups.
Are we undermining our universities. 11 000 jobs, what are we saying to SAns universities, classification please
Who will visit country of drugs dealer s and criminal s
As long as they don't eat or threaten our animals and wildlife....
This guy is talking rubbish our people are not working he want to invite people to come work here
I was very hopeful that the GNU would bring far-reaching change. However, the Tshawne vote is just the first crack in a very fragile partnership. Unfortunately, your average person does not see or care about the changes being effected.
Minister Leon Schreiber, before looking abroad, prioritize SA's unemployed skilled engineers! Consider their expertise FIRST, then look outside. Create a National Skills Database, streamline applications, advertise local opportunities & collaborate with industry stakeholders. Let's empower local talent & drive economic growth!
Please ask the Minister to streamline citizenship processes. We have been waiting many many years after holding PR since 2010. The process is cumbersome and slow.
The Dept Labour's UIF Ufiling, WhatsApp, and UUSD platforms stopped working. Claiming from the UIF is a fruitless struggle. We need a Leon Schreiber as the minister of Labour.
What happens if/when the GNU collapses? Is he out?
When the backlog is considerd, foreigners must not be granted VISAs because they have been in the queue for long. Visas that were granted should be reviewed because of the endemic corruption in HA.
Ramaphosa has support in GNU mainly DA. I hope the GNU will take SA to its former economic glory, with the interest of all SAns at heart. The ANC failed to sustain us in the ideals of Mandela.
This Doctor Just Cancelled my SASSA card without my consent. - This is an OUTRAGE !!! Next week is going to be big out cry in the whole of South Africa. - People will not get their GRANTS. - He should have started by bringing Home Affairs to the Townships first. - Stop playing to the gallery Minister ! Not even the National Party ever revoked people''s Citizenships !!!
Alec, I just love your youtube clips...thank you for making them so fascinating ! I would like to hear that Dr Leon Schreiber is also involved in targeting and upskilling bright young people into getting the appropriate tertiary education qualifications in the areas where South Africa is short.
The problem is whoever is assessing visa applications doesn’t even understand the critical skills were looking to attract so visas get denied
I'm curious to see the list of critical scarce skills that the minister wants to enable importation of workers aligned to so called scarce skills that more than 30 million ppl don't have.
This minister is focusing on solutions, the previous minister was putting too much focus on the problems than solutions. This minister is the perfect person for this department.
He is Seco to non when it comes to work earthics
You giving him too much credit.
Minister Schreiber is trying by all means to explain how everything is working but you get those who still don't understand and don't agree with that what he is explaining. What and how must Schreiber again explaining sothat we can all understand.?Which language must he use to explain sothat we can understand him what he is telling us?.
It's not that they don't understand.they don't want to understand. GNU is working.thanks God for it .

If Home Affairs outsource visa approvals to Tourist Companies in other countries, then those Tourist Companies should be taxed in South Africa (the Tourist company will effectively become digital consulates for South Africa which means, ito Vienna Convention, that their premises are as good as South African soil...which means the source their income is South Africa, which means, as non resident companies, that they should pay tax on the money they are diverting away from the South African fiscus). If this is the case then by all means offshore Home Affairs to China land.
This argument makes no sense at all. The goal is to grow the economy by getting people routing for you overseas and getting people into your country, the worst counterproductive thing would be to now grab tax income in an attempt to fill state coffers. This is exactly the communist type of argument that cost this country over the past 30 years and cost this country millions of jobs and opportunities lost for young people. Just do business, not politics and the figures will look after themselves.
There can be no government of national unity unless it was headed by dr arikana what you have is a grab for power got it and just being a pappy show internationaly with the pprime minister come preesedent 😅😅😅😅

He is not sidelining you. Just apply for the jobs, go for an interview and get hired. I am pretty sure the minister is not denying you any job.
I like what he is doing with home affairs but I don't like that he wants to hire 11K foreigners where we have so many South Africans of all colours who are qualified and unemployed.

Hm, and how much of out scarce reasources are being syphoned from the public into "for profit" sectors like tourism - the false economy?
If matters not if a hotel group can pay its bills, the resources they consume is the limiting factor affecting every South African citizen. The iiresponsible activities of tour operators has a further detrimental impact on our Natural environs.

The resources "they consume" create jobs its economics 101. Tourism is the cheapest export commodity for any country.
Lekker Leon
😂😂😂 dude, did you had to put it like that
Who are these foreigners getting the jobs? What is their background? Are the foreigners being favored over the locals because those particular group of foreigners being specially looked after. Before looking outside the country, were local South Africans sought for these jobs. Are the 11000 coming to work here, trainers? Will they be able to train South Africans?
Tourism: Australia is closer to China, that's why people go more there. This close distance means cheaper flights. Just like Far Easterners rather come to South Africa rather than go to Brazil because of the distance and cost of the flight.
