Huge props to you guys for making a follow-up video on this, and for doing your due diligence. And huge props to Asus too for working with you guys on a fix. I know we kinda argued about it on the first video, but it definitely was a peculiar situation. On my side I got curious and started investigating. I couldn't find anyone with a retail unit who had experienced the issue, and reached out to a lot of people and had them run the same benchmarks to compare, about a dozen of which ran these benchmarks 5+ times for me to help collect data. However, I can't deny the existence of some kind of issue if Asus was able to recreate it, so somehow these few (or somehow all?) units did indeed have something affected. I also can't rule out the possibility that this was a rare off-the-wall thing that only affected a few units - maybe samples from Asus and some outside of that. I'd be curious to know what the root issue was and the final "fix" that occurred. Unfortunately Asus bios updates always just say "optimize system performance" which explains nothing, lol.

Cudos to ASUS for going all in on figuring out what the issue was and resolving it. These days companies usually just leave things half-baked and move onto the next product. Fantastic work by the Hardware Canucks team as well, you guys sure do put a lot of effort into the work you do and are easily some of the best content creators out here. In this age of garbage influencers on Instagram and TikTok being easily bought to do whatever kind of misleading marketing tech companies want them to do, integrity really has to be praised and valued.

I bought the 4080 version after returning my Legion 7i (2024) and all I can say is wow, the vapor chamber cooling thats on the 4080 and 90 makes the fan noise so much quieter than the Legion 7i, its very bearable, not to mention how premium it feels compared to the Legion 7i, the AMD caps at 4070, and you can clearly see the 4080 version doing much better in games, not to mention the AMD has a tri-fan set up, to me the option was clear, the 4080/90 all the way, and its the best laptop of 2024.

I love the zephyrus g16. I’ve got one with the ryzen 9 hx 370 and the rtx 4070. That oled combined with the speakers it has gives the absolute most immersive gaming experience I’ve ever had on a laptop 💻. Performance wise mines very very consistent. This laptop is 100% a top contender and still till this day impresses me like day one. It’s a very spicy laptop that offers more than most gaming laptops I’ve tried when it comes to build quality and gaming experience. Speakers on cheaper laptops make you have to have headphones to get a good experience and that’s always been such a let down. Asus is generally good at releasing half-finished firmware for their products at launch and then finishing them up later. We're the beta testers. @knekker1 I am using the intel version. First thing for sure, the laptop can get extremely hot towards the lop of the keyboard. On the lap, that area can literally hurt you it gets that hot. Secondly, in light use, the fans will turn on for what seems like no reason. Also, I notice in armory crate during light use the dedicated gpu will turn on, then off almost like a software battle between the igpu and dedicated, or maybe an issue withing armory crate. Lastly, for light use the battery life is OK. Id say if you have music or TH-cam on in the background and are doing browser tasks, battery life is probably more like 6-7 hours. Which is good, but its less than what many youtubers report.

Creators that were negative to you seem like they do not understand basic software and firmware bugs and that it does not necessarily affect 100% of laptops sold. I suspect those creators earn a significant living from sponsored reviews and affiliated links and were reacting to protect their income when they should have been supporting your findings and investigating. This is why many viewers on TH-cam are switching off sponsored content as we simply do not trust it and there are many instances lately that raise cause for concern. Glad you do report this and people then can decide whether to gamble their purchase does not have this bug, wait for it to be fixed, or delay their purchase until it is resolved. As the G16 is an excellent device and making it great for all buyers is what creators should focus on, not their own agenda.

I'm returning mine soon. Honestly, it's a fantastic laptop overall - the screen, the battery life and build quality... but for its gaming performance, which is my main use for it.. It is severely overpriced and underpowered with a 4070, even on sale (I got it BF sale 1599 at bestbuy), and even with all the bells and whistles (Frame gen, DLSS, etc) - I found myself thinking over and over that it should be running better, smoother FPS for the price I paid. Also, GHelper makes it a whole lot better, but it's going back - I'm starting to feel buyers remorse.

Including G-Helper with disabling CPU boost. It has better performance in gaming with turning off 240hz on desktop - only 60hz, max cpu and gpu power by G Helper red options.
Then on black ops use borderless, then unlimited or custom 240 to 60ps = 30 to 60fps = another 60fps.

I just bought a Zephyrus Duo over black friday weekend. $800 off. Asus proceeded to charge my card. Two days later they cancelled my order with no explanation, sent a refund to my card, and told me to order again from the website. Well now the price has increased $800… I keep calling support every day and they tell me “you will be contacted in 2 business days”
I still have not heard anything about whether they will honor my price. If they don’t, I think im gonna go from massive ASUS fan to boycotting them. They are literally just trying to see if I’m desperate enough to burn $800…

I remember 3 years ago when I bought my first laptop with an OLED screen and I was so anxious to use it. It was a brand spanking new model Asus Vivobook with very decent performance, Ryzen 9 5900HX and RTX3050. Unfortunately my dreams were shattered when I got to use it. Performance was inconsistent, it was very sluggish and laggy. I tried reinstalling the drivers and Windows a few times, talked to Asus Support for a few days but unfortunately I couldn't fix it and had to sell it. I was very pissed because the laptop that I just replaced was a Zephyrus G14 that was running great. Shame that Asus makes these amazing devices but they're so bad at making the software for them.

My amd laptop has a similar problem. The cpu in gpu demanding games will throttle. So when the gpu uses 105 watts the cpu will boost to 30-35 watts for a few mins and then back down to 18-22 watts and then back up to 30 watts. This inconsistent boost behaviour can cause inconsistent frame rates.
Also when charging and playing at the same time the problem is even worse, the cpu will dip to 10-14 watts at times causing drastic fps drops. Im using ghelper btw.

I think the issue was using performance mode. That gives power to what is using most power.
And for Ryzen that never happens when there is a power hungry GPU.
Balanced power profile would work better.
A common problem with Zen. I think AMD should fix the behavior in performance mode, instead of telling us to use balanced mode even if balanced mode is better for laptops in almost every scenario.
What Asus probably did was to make it always run in balanced mode.

Can you test the Legion 9, which hasn't been fixed already since 2 gens. L9 G8/G9 both of them suffer from the same issues that were already provided back then via Legion Discord to the Lenovo coworkers. VMD Issue, SAGV, Pcie Device error due to disabled VMD, which can't be enabled and vice versa, due to their buggy bios. Also the ACPI thing, the Flagship device having the oldest version of the ACPI 5.1 (from 2011), when every other model has an ACPI 6.3 from 2019, is just laughable.
Also low air flow, cooling of the USB Controller the USB Controller on the Mobo overheats/isnt properly cooled and will cut off the power of the USB ports and of the KB and Touchpad. Had this issue on all my Mobos, but with a cooling pad the issue is gone, probably due to better aiflow and better cooling of the USB Controller.

@@risencaseynelsonthat won’t help l, the asus Liquid Metal application on the 4070 model is crapp. Mine was the same 75-80 idle and 95-98C constantly throttling while gaming. I returned this shitbox the next day. This has happened to me twice before, buying asus products. Never buying asus crapp ever again.

@@Adhgnis I have the 4070 as well and G Helper fixed it for me. It still runs hot when gaming on POE but that's probably normal for gaming laptops. Idek it sits high 50s max

There must be a problem with your unit. My G16 4090 sits at 50s while browsing. I'm also using GHelper and removed armoury crate.
