    This seems a lot more educational than the Hass controller simulator. Those things aren't cheap and you never really learn how tool offsets work.
    I like the idea of having a real Hass controller on this. They are good controllers and there's a lot to learn on them. You could easily get up to speed on most any Hass machine after learning on hear.
    I'd put a small boring bar where that tap was and you could make all sorts of precision bushings on this.

    • @MikeBaxterABC

      What is there to "learn" about tools offset??? It's all pretty much in the term tool offset !! :)

    • @paul5683
      @paul5683 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Lots of things. For instance if a tool is cutting on od undersize, how much do you change the offset. For the beginner, knowledge of the seriousness of misplacing decimal points. Do you punch in a negative or positive adjustments. For a lot of people the very concept of saving all these tool positions and then the computer will take the appropriate offset to work with. Once again making sure that the tool is in the appropriate offset that is in the program.

      We have a bunch of manual lathes for pipe work. The cost of the cnc's vs. the manuals can not be justified for a job that takes 30 minutes to set up and 15 minutes to run on the manual lathe. Some of the pipes we do are up to 20 inches in diameter and up to 540 inches long.
      BTW the manual machinist in our shop are getting paid way more than the cnc guys because of the lack of skill it takes to run a cnc vs the manual and the lack of people who want to run it. Most of the cnc guys get paid around $25 an hour where the manual guys are making $30+.

      Their business isn't geared toward making a machine like that. It's a starter machine, they do pretty good, but their shortcomings become apparent when you start comparing it to higher price point manufacturers. I've run brand new UMC500ss', VF3ss, VF2/SS, ST-20Y, DT, DM, old 2's, 3's, 4's E's, even 0's from the 80's with the plastic shell. I used to work at the second largest Haas shop in the country with over 140 mills. They are okay, not great, not nearly as good as a Mazak, Grob, Dusan, DMGMori or anything in the high price range.

    Allow a dual mill and lathe package with the same controller.
    If Haas made this with a live tool Y axis mode for training, it would be worth so much more for trainers. At the price they want even with educational discounts, it isn’t worth squat. They really are loosing the edge in potential training with this low grade system at that price point.
    Do a $13,000 dual machine package with one controller and it would sell, easily, even with the reduced functionality.
    The concept is supposed to be “train people on how the controller, setup and operation basics work” so that next level detailed training can be more advanced per machine.
    Give it more ability or lower the price.
    Barely any high schools or colleges are getting these. You are loosing potential.
    Too bad you don’t give educational pricing to private trainers, that would also be a good way to sell them…
    But as others state, it sure looks like it’s built to try and get over loaded state money with little in return, and priced in a way to try and get you to buy the big boy versions.
