Motorola RAZR+ After the Buzz: Worth it in 2024?

  • One of the most futuristic-feeling phones I've used in the past year doesn't have the best-looking display or the latest chip, or outstanding battery life, or even a particularly great camera.
The device I'm talking about has been Moto's flagship clamshell since it launched in the summer of 2023. And with a 2024 refresh now on the cards, the price has taken a significant dip down to just under $650. So with a year of context behind us and a lower price, it's time to see how the Razr+ is shaping up.

The lack of updates are completely inexcusable and why I will not buy another Motorola phone. It's a shame, too, because I do think they do the cover display better than Samsung and the hardware is pretty good.

I've been using a Razr+ for a few months and i've really liked it. Performance has been great just navigating the UI and playing games like pokemon unite and some gamecube/wii emulation. It does tend to get warm after about 10-15 minutes though. Living in a desert with 100+ weather, the phone heats up on me a lot of the time and stops charging because of overheating. I have an hour long commute and use Android Auto so i tend to just plug it in go thinking it charges the whole way there. I get to work and check to see the battery only charges about 5-10% because it was too hot to charge. The camera lenses have also been a bit soft for me, everything looks like it's almost in focus but not quite. the lack of a zoom lens is also a bit disappointing. Taking photos while it's in camcorder mode is nice though, you get a bit more freedom with framing and composition. If they can improve the overheating and camera, id definitely upgrade to the newer model. Aside from that the phone has been great for me. I always get comments about it at work

2:20 Peak brightness and HBM brightness are two completely different things.
1,400 nits on this phone is NOT while outdoors in bright sunlight. That's only for watching HDR content and even then, the 1,400 nits is for very small window sizes (aka very small areas of the screen).
HBM brightness is for outdoors in bright sunlight.
Stop confusing peak brightness with HBM brightness. Two different things.
So many TH-camrs still get this wrong. 😑

You need at least two to three OS updates at least on a phone. Samsung has at least four operational updates

I used a cheap Motorola for a couple years and missed Samsung's version of Android. Just dumb stuff like on Motorola I have to swipe down twice to adjust the brightness bar. And Motorola was always messing up the auto-brightness.

Lack of OS support is what kills Motorola phones, especially when they start aging; their value decreases in a year so trading them in gets you like $100 credit if you try to going to any other manufacturers (unlocked). Neat hardware but just needs support, it’s 2024, most people keep their phones for 3-4 years on average.

Ive had the razr+ as my secondary phone since its debut. My oneplus open main broke about a week and a half ago and am waiting for it to come back from oneplus repair facility forcing me to use the razr as my main phone in the meantime. After almost 2 weeks straight of use i forgot how amazing this phone is. Battery life surprised me, probably due to using the outer screen more than the inner but still

I think Motorola did a better job than Samsung with the small outer display, but I went with the Z-Flip 5 a year ago. It is my 1st foldable and Samsung felt like a safer bet. The flip phone form factor is great. when folded the phone is easier to carry, fit in pockets, even small women's clothing pockets, the center console of my car, wherever. At 1st I was worried about durability but it's holding up as well as any other phone so far. Either brand would be a good phone.
