The back crown portion is such a challenge for me. This was a great visual for styling, for me. Your hair is so pretty. Your haircut is so nice. The perfect shape and so flattering for you.
Thank you so much, Tamara! I have tried upsidedown styling so many times, but then my hair rarely looks good at the crown, so this upright styling has been my go-to technique for better hair days. 🌺
i am so amazed by how you handle your back section of your hair. i always mess up there with mine. because it remains super frizzy and and my curls aren’t well defined as i wanted. so your hair styling really help me. thanks. i just love your technique sharing.
You are so welcome, Beautiful! I’m so glad this is helpful for you! You’ll figure out what techniques work best for you, and how different your curls can look with different products too. Enjoy the journey! ♥️
I’ve been following one person on TH-cam for my curly hair advice, it got me on my journey but it just wasn’t working for my curl type. Yours is similar to mine and this is so helpful! I also love your hairstyles as they’re ‘adult’ like for work! So beautiful too! Thank you xxx
♥️ Thank you so much for letting me know!!I’m glad these videos are helpful. I really love classic looks & elegant fashion. Work Hairstyles have always caused me the most anxiety 😅 so I’ve spent the most time on them to put together a collection of quick & easy looks. I’ll keep on it! xxx
This was so helpful.... the brush actually did make a difference but I did change products as well recently.... You explain things so well. Love all your updoo and hair styling videos too...
I’m so glad to hear that! Thank you! I will be playing more with brushes too as certain techniques can help to create different looks, add definition & help to reduce frizz. ♥️
Really enjoyed watching your technique! I love learning different things to try. I liked how you smoothed the clumps out “after” brush styling each section. Will have to try it!
Great! I’d love to hear if it works for you. Some styling brushes still seem to make tiny curl clumps for me, so I try to smooth them into a slightly thicker ones. Note that size of your curl clumps really depends on your curl pattern, your density, and the final look you prefer. ♥️
Gorgeous curls !!!! just found your channel and I’m very happy I did . At almost 62 , I’m finally embracing my curls . Before that I was blow drying, flat ironing , Keratin treatments etc I’m just starting to enjoy and learning new techniques and using product in my silver tinsel 🌻🌻🌻
Thank you so much, Toni! Congratulations on beginning your curly hair journey and for sharing it with me! You are so lucky to have curly hair. ♥️ I love that your embracing your tinsel too! My tinsel is coming in more quickly now and I can’t wait to see what kind of pattern it will make. Curls are so much fun!
I love your videos so much! Thank you! I tried your techniques out and they work so well, my hair is gorgeous at first. But throughout the day they just seem to fall out and I can't figure out why. Any tips?
I’ve used a lot of these methods and I get great curl but not volume. After seeing this I think I’m not using enough product. I’m going to try this again!
Thank you so much for the great video.......sectioning hair always confused me but your step by step explanation cleared it all...... will try it out this wash day...... love from India
I feel bad as I came to this vid looking for fancy ways to style my hair just to realize it's just naturally fabulous. But you've educated me on how to properly spread my products and i genuinely appreciate it a lot as a guy who isn't super detail oriented bit wants my hair to be fabulous as fuck
This is almost exactly my routine!! My hair is very similar to yours. I have been wanting to make a video to explain in detail like you did...great job!! What are your favorite products? I am still on the hunt for the perfect products...
Hi Jennifer, Thank you! So good to hear this routine works for you too! 🙌🏼 My current favorite products are the Innersense gels. I’ll be making a video to show the difference between the strong hold gel & the medium hold gel too 👍🏼
This video was great! I have tighter curled I think, but I'm going to try this method anyway and see what happens. I was so interested by the clips you had in at the end, do you have another video where you show how you put those in? I only just found your channel and haven't seen all the vids. Thank you!
Thank you! I hope this works for you too! I also have a simplified styling routine in this video too 👉 th-cam.com/video/B-I8LaFeRaU/w-d-xo.html But I will make a video about the air drying clips. They are so good for root volume! ✨NEW! Curly Hair Root Clipping Technique for Root Lift & Volume th-cam.com/users/shortsd0i1HxVxZco?feature=share
Your curly hair is so pretty. If mine look like yours I would wear it curly all the time I’m thinking of a Brazilian blowout because the curls are just bad
Thank you for the compliment! You can also look for a curly salon in your area for a recommendation from them too. They usually offer consultations, and Wash & style without a cut. It can be fun to see what different products & techniques they recommend for your custom styling. Definitely do what feels right to you! ♥️
I think maybe I finally found someone that I can follow that has similar hair to mine! And I really love the way you take your time explaining things. What kind of hair do you have if you don't mind me telling you and what kind of haircut do you call your cut?
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback so much! My hair is medium texture & medium density. For my haircut I choose layers all around. I usually go a bit shorter with my layers at first and then let them grow out to long layers before cutting again. I ask for a rounded shape to the ends at the back rather than straight across. I hope this helps too!
@@TheCurlStory Thank you so much! My hair is about the same length and maybe slightly a little less curly more 2C 3A, it is also pretty baby fine. I'm 62 and now have a bit less hair than I used to- which in most ways I'm loving. You see after having super thick hair & getting headache s from a ponytail, it's a relief. So you see I have a sensitive head LOL. My hair is mostly blackish Brown with about 10 or 20% gray and I've never colored it. You inspire me and I love seeing your daughter with you!
Do you get a lot of breakage with all that squishing in your next washes. I mean I lv been scrunching for 3 years and the only reason i can see long breakages and NOT fall outs/shedding is from scrunching products in to get "the desired" look. To which over 3 years my hair becomes choppy. Do you or any of you gals have the same effect or outcome ?
I’ve found raking in products on already detangled hair helps to create a more uniform application of products throughout the length of the strand. Followed by a gentle blotting or a holding scrunch, helps to encourage the curl formation. All with the goal of hydration supporting products & gentle application to prevent breakage. 🤍
A gel! Try a light to medium hold gel for fine hair to medium thick hair strands. Try a strong hold gel for thick or coarse hair. Here’s a great kit to start with bit.ly/3HDp3Uk
A lot of people say one shouldn't brush hair when its damp or wet because its more fragile and prone to damage so I'm a little unsure if I should do that... What is your opinion on that?
A very important question! A brush isn’t required for all hair types or curls types, but it can be helpful for different reasons. The ✨ magic ingredient of brushing soaking wet hair is the conditioner (when detangling) or the water and styling products (when brush styling) adding the slip needed to minimize the friction that causes breakage and protect your hair. Work on small sections of hair at a time for best results.👍🏼
Love your technique. Please can you just tell us the name of your hair products as I have similar curly hair and can never get those lovely curls. Thank you
Yes! On this wash day I was testing out the Bouncecurl styling products of the Clump & Define Cream & Light Hold Gel. I like to test products for at least a month before I give a review. Would you like some product review videos?
Thank you for posting. Sectioning is a great idea.i can never get my back to curl like the front.i do however air dry my curls any good air dry products
Yes! It’s great to see how our hair looks when it’s wet & make sure we like it before it dries and sets into place. Take photos & notes of your results to keep learning what works best for you. ♥️
Hi Felisha, that is a great question. There are many brushes for detangling and styling. To get started, I recommend a Wet Brush amzn.to/3GbQJhJ for detangling most curly hair types. I detangle with my hands first, then use this brush for a more gentle approach. A brush for styling is optional. In this video, I'm using a denman styling brush amzn.to/2Ztmh1s I hope this helps! Wishing you all the best on your hair journey!
You can definitely use an actual tshirt as your hair towel! 👍🏼 My new favorite cloth to use is a Muslim blanket, mostly because it looks prettier hanging up in my bathroom.
The layering works best. It’s helpful for the Hair to soak in your base layer, a leave-in or a cream. Then the gel coating over it will seal in the moisture for days.
Yes! Product notes added to the description. I was testing these products and decided not to mentioned them as the gel did not provide enough hold for my hair afterall. I have thicker hair strands, so medium to strong hold gels work best to keep my curls intact. I hope this helps!
I always have trouble with the back. My hair is long and my hands get tired. Also, I can’t get volume near my roots, because my hair is long and thick.
Yes! Will do. I shared some hair cut details in my Curly Hair Q&A video, but I’m planning on a cut next month, so I’ll do a before an after of that too. 👍🏼 Thank you!

Thank you! I’ve tested so many techniques and am learning more each day on how to best care for and style my hair. Are you also on a healthy Curls Journey?
Hi! I used a curl cream and gel. For fine hair, light to medium hold gels work well. For thick hair, strong hold gels will provide the most definition.

Do you recommend parting your hair before or after showering? I currently part my hair before I shower.
Hi! This depends on what works best for your hair. With high density hair (a lot of it, like my daughter’s hair) sectioning it beforehand is helpful!
