I have worked in a shop that specialized in rebuilding engines like this. Your emissions problem most likely has to do with the camshaft gears not the belt itself. Definately a timing problem, the dino/tipo engines have adjustment at the cam gears the guides are weak. They have a habit of wearing out, almost immediately in some cases, going from 1000 RPM to 8500K almost instantly has it's drawbacks. The cam(s) is likely floating between two positions getting the car to pass emissions sometimes. This being a 1999 car it likely got this problem early and the owner was chasing the issue. it sucks. could be the cams themselves too... but it sounds healthy enough. just like 2 siamese b18C5's . I've driven this one F1 and 6 speed. the F1 is kind of more fun. This one was my favorite until i drove a 458.
@@716tg3 You're welcome. Emissions Controls are not common knowledge. I've replaced enough timing belts on honda D-series to get them to pass the Ontario E-test to know. Yo I absolutely love this Vin. You and Dan were the reason I kept coming back to watch the Hoonigan stuff. Seeing you doing content on your own is such a breath of fresh air. Thanks for doing this!
@vin - instead of sanding, I suggest using Maguire’s Mag Wheel polish. Tape around the headlight. Smear Maguire’s onto the lenses and use a slow speed setting on a buffer. I’ve done this on several of my cars including my 997 Targa and 3.8 GT3.
Dude! Wasn’t your biggest fan on Hoonigan. But this Vlog is sublime! So refreshing. Beats are brilliant, garage door opener is becoming a staple 👌 just needs like 5% more doggo content haha
This is shaping up to be a great channel. My suggestion for the audio is making an enclosure for the mic so it can only receive sound from one direction. Like an insulated studio booth, but tiny and open on one side. Google mic enclosure for inspo. This is not practical for every situation, but works really well where it applies.
@@vin_tra haha im sure! I think you did get a pretty good deal even with the work it needs. I saw another youtuber who bought a convertible F1 360 for close to 90k, granted it was red with the tan interior and he was in New Hampshire
@@TDRE88 i think its mainly the nostalgia factor, these were the supercars i grew up with as a kid. But i think the design overall is truly timeless. Pininfarina knows how to make a beautiful sports car.
Also, $2500 for mounts is way overkill. IIRC, motor mounts and transmission mount will be well under $1K for all 3. Motor mounts are super easy. Trans mount is a little more of a PITA, but doable.
The DR-10L is a killer mic for in-car stuff that gets clean vocal audio and engine noise. They record natively, so you have to align the audio, but it's very worth it.

Vin my man! your quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. your content is refreshing but somehow nostalgic feeling? 😅 idk for some reason your style reminds me a lot of the early 2000’s surf/skate/skim videos ❤
One thing that plagued those 360 spyders, and coupes was the exhaust being directly next to the transmission, which ends up causing gearbox heat soak to rise and creates shifting issues. Had one come down for a brake job, went for a road test and the car was stuck in first gear the entire way, checked the gearbox temps and they were through the roof Still, one of the coolest cars of its time imo!
Seriously loving the new content. This is way more enjoyable than the newer Hoonigan stuff. When I first saw the interior I was thinking, "please just put Recaros in it. I know Ferrari seats are going to be expensive" haha.
Absolutely love the music in this video as much as the content. Definitely think this was a steal and the sound of that engine alone makes it worth it. Can’t wait to see this with a proper manual swap.
Hey, I just saw a cool way to sand down clear coat and paint runs. The guy used body filler spread over the run area to protect the paint around the run, then kinda wet sanded the spot with 400, 600, 800, 1000 grits until the body filler was almost gone, then polished it up, and it looked amazing!.

Just a heads up when checking ball joints, jack the car on the lower A-arm so the weight of the vehicle is on and the suspension is in its most common travelled/worn position and to also not have the ball joints over extended and binding up potentially hiding the fact that they’re worn or loose.
Great vid! Couple things on the F1...if you install a CS TCU your shift speeds and smoothness will vastly improve. Jumping out of gear could be the clutch nearing the end of its life, or maybe a clutch position sensor, or simply air in the system. Check the obvious stuff first, like F1 fluid level and bleed the system. The actuator may also need a bleed, which isn't hard but you'll need to remove it to access there 3 bleed screws on the gearbox side. These are pretty easy cars to wrench on, people are just scared to do it. You don't strike as that type of guy lol!

First, great deal on the car, for sure. Second, the transmission is not working correctly, it should shift extremely fast when shifting at WOT, and should blip the throttle near perfectly on downshifts. If you're having to lift or having to manually blip, something is wrong. It also should not go into neutral while driving unless you pull both paddles at the same time. Could be the drive by wire throttle bodies which could also be giving you emissions problems, but there's definitely an issue and the trans and emissions deals are likely related.
Such a great video! But also, can we talk about that house?!? I feel like all the mid century style adds so much to this like old school Porsche driver vibe
"Do you think it is a good deal, do you think it was a mistake?" It was a decent deal for an average buyer. It was an excellent deal for you, where we get to join you on your journey of making the car better for you. And that is what we are here for.

Perfect guys. DDE, Vin, and then Skinny..perfect car vid morning. Thnks guys.❤
This is not practical for every situation, but works really well where it applies.
the 360 and 430 are my 2 favorite chassis's. both just so tastefully styled.
F430 is kinda like a chunkier 360 when you think about it
I do prefer the 430 but my wallet prefers the 360!
@@vin_tra haha im sure! I think you did get a pretty good deal even with the work it needs. I saw another youtuber who bought a convertible F1 360 for close to 90k, granted it was red with the tan interior and he was in New Hampshire
Its likely your favourite because they’re so closely related on the chassis side doors hood and lots of the suspension are actually the same
@@TDRE88 i think its mainly the nostalgia factor, these were the supercars i grew up with as a kid.
I love this channel, please don't stop it Vin
I love this new channel. I will never own a Ferrari but it is cool to see what it's like to. The content is relatable and can translate to ownership of any type of vehicle. Vin you seem like a cool and real dude!
Welcome aboard!
So cool seeing the human aspect of an OG Hoonigan. You clearly love cars and respect the funny nuances of forgotten ones. Endless respect.
This channel feels really refreshing. Absolutely loving it! I hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are Vin!
Bro VIN, you know you’re fucking hyped to work this car back to sexy. You’re literally making this video feel like comfort food homie just because the DIY aspect beats paying someone else (mostly). I love you and your education bro, keep it coming!
Really appreciate the effort with the varied shots / overheads / whiteboards Vin, keep up the great work
You’re quickly becoming one of my favourite youtubers, you’re killing it
loving the vlog content vin, super nice to come home and relax to a vin vlog
I’m not a car guy per se but I have really enjoyed your content. It’s a lot different than other shows and super informative.
Got me kinda thinking would be fun to buy a neat car to keep for a while and enjoy. Good stuff man. Crushed like 6 episodes already.
Keep up the great work on all the new content! Glad to see a regular person showing the real life of owning cars and going through the process!
These videos really got good quick, I’m loving the Ferrari build and chill styled vids it’s nice and relaxing
I really enjoy the format and casual/informative vibe. Good angkes good transitions. Super super enjoy it
So great to have a Ferrari in your lineup! Excited to follow the progress!
Hell yeah, good to see this. Love seeing people showing projects in depth they are genuinely interested in, thanks man and we're here for it
Had to come here to get my hoonigan fix Vin. Cant ignore the corporation of that channel now it’s sad to watch the vibes gone you can feel it just watching 😢
Vin my man! your quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. your content is refreshing but somehow nostalgic feeling? 😅 idk for some reason your style reminds me a lot of the early 2000’s surf/skate/skim videos ❤
The laugh from your GF about the 'shifter'! I LOL'd as well! Soo good man, love this model of Rari, congrats and can't wait to see what it becomes!
This fool is already at 100k subs, Good job Vin keep em comin
One thing that plagued those 360 spyders, and coupes was the exhaust being directly next to the transmission, which ends up causing gearbox heat soak to rise and creates shifting issues. Had one come down for a brake job, went for a road test and the car was stuck in first gear the entire way, checked the gearbox temps and they were through the roof
Still, one of the coolest cars of its time imo!
You're teaching car people to be gearheads and that's awesome man. loving your new lane of content. part car culture, part education.
Seriously loving the new content. This is way more enjoyable than the newer Hoonigan stuff. When I first saw the interior I was thinking, "please just put Recaros in it. I know Ferrari seats are going to be expensive" haha.
good stuff vin, easy and relaxed content ! I'm here for it
Absolutely love the music in this video as much as the content.
Vin is reviving the daily vlog style content, not having something big going on during the video and just everyday things you need to do is sick.🤙🏻
The garage is sick. I'm crushin on the back sliding wall.
Love the explanation on the Chassis and Struts/suspension, I think putting in a gated manual will be amazing for your Ferrari, and if you got the money, you need to do it. Enjoy your Ferrari.
When I was younger a guy my cousin was friends with took me a drive in his 430 , pale blue with the cream interior , safe to say from that day I loved Ferrari , just the sound was incredible , can’t wait to see what you do with this one
That pale blue interior is so dope an I don't even like Ferrari that much you see that interior on navy blue ones
@@adamthomas4638 the car was pale blue but had the cream interior , wasn’t a combo I have seen much of in exotic cars , always stuck in my mind since I was young at the time
Bro your content is dope as hell I’m glad i found you. i didn’t even watch hoonigan I got lucky and you came up in my recommended. Keep up the great work!
Loving the wheels on the GT3RS. I have a 997 myself and have been thinking about a 360.
Congrats on 100k! That number is just gonna keep going up
17:20 need a PPI for that blur job...
Great content bro ,couple of cool cinematic shots. Love the realness of it. Pretty straightforward and easy understand too. From seeing all your builts ,this 360 is in great hands. Can't wait to see what you gonna do to it!!! FC from Thailand bro
I bought a miata two days ago and am going through the same thing This is the video and advise I needed.
If you haven't sanded the headlights yet jewelers rouge works a treat and so fast. Way better than sanding. Its a jewelers wax polish
Hey, heard you saying people are complaining about the audio. I have some reference headphones I listen to your show on / no issues here with mixing, etc. Keep it up! Also, get Scotto's purari with yours soon :)
I love the old school Daily Transmission vibes with editing and content delivery. Great content 👏🏽👏🏽
Wrap it black, it might make your shifter bigger. Also keep an eye on your fuel lines. My buddies first one burned to the ground and his replacement had the same fuel leak. The fire started near the engine.
You know you doing something right when you getting more views than actual subs lol as everyone has said already you’re doing great. Truly happy for you. Much love from South Africa. ✌🏼
With a line up like that you can proudly say "you've made it!"...Love the Vlogs, love the editing. awesome content Vin! Greeting from Middle Village, Queens :)
So when you're doing the shake test. On some type of constructions it's necessary to unload the tension on the ball joint to be able to feel the play. You usually jack up the bottom wishbone to unload it.
I think that Vin has one of the best lineups. Has a little bit of everything, Italian, german, Japanese, and American. Its just cool to see
Staples in a Ferrari headliner 😏
Love the content Vin! Keep it coming I can’t wait to see how the headlights turn out. I use Colgate and a drill with a wool disc to restore headlights.
This throwback style content is dope. I love it, and wish more ppl did it too.
Congrats on the new ride! Your content is very personal feeling and you have a great way of relating your feeling and thought to the audience. This will go such a long way in relating to your audience. I only see millions of subscribers in the near future! Keep it up!!
Hey folks these creators are just so inspiring… hoping after you enjoy this content and between the wait time for their new uploads you may want to help us gain some traction on our content at Father and son Ferrari rescue. Ferrari 458 salvage rebuild see how it goes so you can do this yourselves one day too!! Thanks in advance everyone.
Just a heads up when checking ball joints, jack the car on the lower A-arm so the weight of the vehicle is on and the suspension is in its most common travelled/worn position and to also not have the ball joints over extended and binding up potentially hiding the fact that they’re worn or loose.
Oh good point
Really enjoying the vibes from these videos. Your killing it keep them coming!
Bravo Vin, Hoonigan-like editing and style but still no fluff and to the point. Also youre Vin-style.I like how you share what to look for in buying a car and are real with it. Please continue this effort of no fluff and being real 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽mahalo!!🎉
I can see this evolving over time in to something spectacular...like wide body kit , supercharged or twin turbo, fully caged ,huge wing...
Ahh the way you describe your driving experience! Make me feel like Im sitting in the passanger seat.
this the perfect tone to set for your channel going forward for sure, sick ass car, great editing!
really liking your channel man :) gonna keep blowing up
Love that this had old Hoonigan feels, keep it up the content Vin we’re rooting for you!! If you post it they will come lol
I'm loving the direction you're taking the channel to. Subscribed!
Vinnie is the true car-dude TH-cam content of 2024 that we need, but don't deserve.
I can't believe this video takes place at home and it took a whole two minutes to see CHAMP!
He hates the garage
Glad 1 vin has a channel 2 I'm here from the start💯
"Do you think it is a good deal, do you think it was a mistake?"
It was a decent deal for an average buyer. It was an excellent deal for you, where we get to join you on your journey of making the car better for you. And that is what we are here for.
Dude, that's the perfect garage you have, thanks for sharing it all.
Great stuff looking forward to seeing the finished work. You'd actually be surprised how many original and CS inspired carbon fibre upgrade parts are available. I can point you in the right direction and advise you on pitfalls to avoid.
Sure. But most are a billion dollars so I can't f with them
