I feed wild pigeons as much as I can at a local lake. They love the birdseed mix I get and go crazy for peanuts (which is dessert for them). They fly to me, perch, and eat out of my hand. They let me pet and kiss them. Some even perch on me, just as a parrot would! I've even trained them to take peanuts from my mouth! I have a nose and lip piercing, and they never mess with my jewelry, either. They're so intelligent. They even come to me without having any food for them! The whole flock flies to me, once a few notice me; it's the best feeling in the whole world! I feel like I'm part of the flock. I love pigeons so much. They make me feel wanted and loved. They're super affectionate creatures and I'm glad they love me back. I'd much rather be with a flock of pigeons, than a crowd of people. You're a good human. Please keep up the good work with your babies; they're absolutely gorgeous! Thank-you for loving and caring for these animals, especially when pigeons get such hatred from many humans.
So nice to know that you love eachother so much! I feed them to at my place and have adopted quite a few who were sick. They make my day! However please don't feed them from your mouth as our saliva contains bacteria which is not good for them! Happy feeding!❤
@@moncho6, glad you love these babies, too! Thanks for rehabilitating the sick and injured ones, as well. Bird people are special people. Feeding from my mouth is a special occasion for us, and I'm careful about salivating. I make sure to swallow first, then I simply put a peanut between my lips, tuck my tongue back in my mouth, and they get the peanut right away. Takes only a few seconds! Thank-you for the tip/warning though.
From the off!..Hurley was eight weeks old when I started to train him. He learnt simple stuff..like a treat under a coloured miniature cup..he learnt where the treat was. Once they learn what the clicker is for..they get really enthusiastic about training. Bonded Pigeons are really smart..the trick you see in the video took less than a week to accomplish.
@@pigeontrix only a week? thats incredible! it's clear you've got a great knack for it, you communicate with the birds so well! :)) please give all of them a good scritchy from me as well :D they're so sweet
Thank you Mari...I never had any intention to train Pigeons. I have always fed wild Feral Pigeons and noticed how tame they got once they trusted you. Then one day out of the blue, I wonder what one would be like for a house pet. I did some research..and concluded that...they where easy to feed..easy to look after...not destructive or too noisy (like Parrots) ..and generally made good house pets...So I went ahead and got Freckles in 2019. As she was getting tamer...and starting to bond to me..I noticed she was copying some of my activities ....like moving my computer mouse...and clicking the buttons. She also seemed very alert to pictures on my screen..so all this got me thinking ..'how smart is she'? As a joke to my FB page..I put three plastic see through cups with a peanut in one of them...obviously she picked the one with the peanut in it..but it really got me thinking seriously...could she do it for real. I put full coloured cups up next and she detected the nut by which coloured cup I put it under. She learnt this in under an hour. After this I did some more research on Pigeon intelligence.. and come across BF Skinner ..he had done various Pigeon training programmes..and I was amazed by this! I also watched a video..saying 'Pigeon perform like primates'...this gave me the idea for the above video. The shapes are from human infant toy..and Hurley achieved this in four days...having a few minutes training on each day. They are amazing birds and I love them.
Pigeons are domesticated and we've been training them for thousands of years. It's only in the last century that we abandoned them and basically forgot all about all they did for us.
He's a star 🏅
Round, cute, and smart ❤
