I can't believe you went there. A coworker's family of mine has lived there since the early 70's and went to see him several times on that Orange Line, same Roscoe Station. His exact words, "Canoga Park is the headquarters of boredom, depression, and neighbors with chronic barking dogs."

I was surprised to find this video. I have been watching your NYC videos. I grew up in Canoga Park. I lived there from 1962 to 1983 and went to Chatsworth High School. The west end of the valley used to have a lot less development (subdivisions, businesses, etc.) and there were even many vacant lots. Our house was in what used to be a walnut grove and the trees were still there, but by the 1980s they mostly were gone, subject to disease.
I drove back and forth to UCLA in the early 70s and later moved to St. Louis.

Thanks for stopping by Canoga Park. I happen to live near the Lowes Hardware store that you passed by. The areas you featured were more of the fringes of the neighborhood, however. Sherman Way (west of Canoga Ave), a few blocks south of where you were, is the heart of the neighborhood with a post-war commercial main street that is more reflective of the era during which the area saw its greatest development. It's a mix of local businesses such as restaurants, barbers, furniture stores, shoe shops, many of which cater to the large Latino population. There are some interesting murals on some of the commercial buildings, including one of The Fonz from "Happy Days" with "Canoga Park" written in large script. I love your videos; I happened to be watching your video of the Poughkeepsie Bridge before I came across this one.

I lived off kittridge and Topanga for 5 years. It's a very quiet, peaceful neighbourhood. If you like driving Hollywood and dtla is 30-40 mins away. I used to love to hanging at Topanga Mall, driving down the 27 to Malibu/ Santa Monica. And i love the fact there is free parking all over Canoga Park, unlike Central LA, where you pay for parking everywhere. If you get lucky, you could bump into a few celebs every now and then casually walking. A lot of them live in the area surrounding Calabasas & Woodland Hills.

AK, The early part of my life I was born and raised in Kew Gardens in Queens. Then we moved to Canoga Park, literally into one of the apartments right across from Lanark Park. When I saw this I was blown away. You’ve covered both places! Love you vids.

I lived in Canoga Park from 1972-1992. The area around Lanark was a kids paradise back then!! Zody’s, 99c movie theater, etc.

Thank you for showcasing Canoga Park, AK!! 😍 I used to live near the Lanark Park when I was around 2 or 3 years old. I live only a couple miles away now, but I only occasionally pass by this area. One of the cons about the Valley is the heat. Some pros are: more parking availability for free at many businesses, wider streets, less crowded, and still part of the LA city. It's so cool a fan recognized you at the end. I wish I could have bumped into you to say HI, since you were near by. 😎

Why did you decide to walk in 99 degree weather instead of riding your scooter? You certainly were very busy during your stay in Southern California. Thanks for sharing.

Im born and raised in LA but can see how strange it must be for tourists who just wanna ride the subway and explore random stops. Most of the time there’s not much around the Metrorail stops unlike other major cities.

Wow, Canoga has to be one of the hottest, most boring sections of the valley. Haven't lived up there in decades but still visit family. Lanark park was a drug infested dump back in the 80s, hopefully it's gotten better.

Next time, walk around the main post office and by Canoga Park High School. . . more historical "stuff" to see there. Plus, Canoga Park High has a museum of school history. There is also a huge pipe organ in the auditorium at Canoga Park High School.
