Thank you, thank you, thank you for NOT playing any dammed annoying music during your video presentation - very professionally done! Your speech speed and diction was also clearly and expertly presented! As a complete newbee to drones, DJI Instructional videos could take a very big leaf out of your book in this regard because in a great many of their "instructional" videos the presenter's voice is almost drowned out by totally unnecessary and horribly distracting music! As a now retired scientist and lecturer of many years, I am astounded by how prevalent this situation is encounted by so called professionals on TH-cam! Excellent mate and keep up the really great work. Cheers from Down Under.
Thank you very much for this. Complete instructions with no steps bypassed like some other video's I've watched on this process. Keep up the great work.
Hi here in 2020, thanks for the video I follow the video steps using IPhone 6 S no problems with the percent stuck, I upadated the app DJI GO 4 before to proceed with formware updates after a 15 maybe 20 mins the whole process finished with no errors, then put the second battery and the DJI GO app detect the different current version on that and I proceed to update too. all works fine. thanks again
I can only get as far as the download part at 3:05. From here i receive a *Network Disconnected pop up box. There are no network issues and im close to the router etc. Cant seem to find the answer for my Mavic 2
chasiu75 Thank you for another very informative video .. I just wanted to know what type camera, or go pro camera that you use to vlog with, because your vlog videos look great and I want to start vloging myself Thanks Fraajr1
I used to calibrate every flight but then got lazy I only do it when I am in faraway locations like out of state traveling now. Have not had any issues. Great job on video!
FYI: Chas, I had no conflicting software message(s) after the update with any of my spare batteries. I ran each one on the bird with no warnings no problems.
Ii noticed that you always turn on the mavic first before the RC? as what i have learned from the manuals that rc first before aircraft. So which is really the correct way? thanks, nice video though.
The more popular official way is to turn on the RC first. It is safer. But for modern equipment I don't believe this to be a issue anymore so I will do it either way unless I hear of some problems from other people.
HATE! Ok, just kidding, you said to leave hate comments! Very good and helpful video. It's always good to watch the procedure if you've never done it before, which I haven't. Thanks for posting.
When it ask's you to "open the app" after reboot (in this case when you were around 99%) you should click open and that completes the firmware update rather than you force closing the app. Diffidently cycle the bower on all 3 after firmware update. (Phone, controller and Mavic). Good video.
Hi , I can't find film about this : the mavic starts on the roof , for example hoovers on 2 meters distance from roof level, then flies away but the building is 20 meters. What happens then? What shows the hight meter? Does it go down to 2 meters or stay on 22 meters? And what about RTH, where will mavic return to ?
Hi I was wondering what type of homing device do you have attached to the arm of the Mavic pro? Can you provide the make and the model and/or link for purchase. Thank you.
flying for over a year, never had a problem, just bought a DJI mavic pro and it kept prompting me to update firmware 1000. I did no problems downloaded and updated the batteries, no problem and went out to fly it and it was different as it was no way near as good as it was out of the box and almost would not land, called DJI and went through the checklist and downloaded check and went back out and still terrible control and probably landing. I told DJI I wanted it back to the original factory specs as it was perfect then. they did not want to but each DJI tech had something different to say so finally they tried to take the firmware out and stopped and thought it would be, now all this is on recording. Finally another tech went through the firmware, control panel and said I'm all set and go have fun. Took it out flew it a little way around 150 ft and requested it to land. It came back but no where close to the marked landing area and all of a sudden the drone decided to drop out of the ski. I could not control the decent and it was like a rock and crashed at a high rate of speed in my driveway destroying it. Luckly I bought it from Amazon and DJI was thinking it was my fault or I hit a tree and other excuses. I never had a problem flying and this was not my first day as before the firmware update she decided to fall like a brick. There is bi doubt things went to hell after the update and the support is like talking to people that really don't know and one stated that they are coming out with another firmware. The problem is it my word against DJI and really since they build them they can say anything to avoid making it right. I have it recorded and yes it was just fine, but the firmware is bad. Its not that the Mavic Pro is a bad unit but its not worth buying one when you get this type of support, its just not worth it. Everything the phone call the flight everything is recorded. I will not buy another DJI product not because of them being bad but because the support is terrible. Richard Miller retired Police Captain, Michigan
I wonder if you can help me, I bought the new smart controller but have an issue with it. I have tried to update the battery firmware via it but it keeps telling me I have no WiFi connection. Any ideas?
G'day mate, I just finally got my new Mavic yesterday and I'm going crazy trying to get it in the air. I've followed your vid. My DJI Go 4 app is slightly different to yours and I'm using my iPhone 7 plus. I can't find any other vid that uses the DJI Go 4 app like you have though so yours is the go for me. (Your app might be different because of the mirror effect)? My "ENTER DEVICE" is on the bottom right hand corner of my phone screen. I've had a quick look at the DJI app and your app seems to be a mix of the two somehow? I'm in Australia so no idea if that makes a difference? My app didn't even tell me that there was a newer version of firmware or that the update was successful either. Anyway, what I would like to know is after doing the firmware updates, that you have in your vid is that all the updates or just for the batteries? So are the batteries updated as well as the controller and the Mavic-Drone? Apparently I have to update or at least check for updates on my 4 battery pack charger as well. But that's another day.. Cheers.
Probably that "South of the Equator" thing like water draining the opposite way. :-) Sorry...couldn't resist. Haven't been exposed to the problem yet cause my Pro Platinum is in the shop having it's gimbal replaced from my last update crash. Get it back in a couple of days. Can't wait join the club for the next surprise. Maybe I'll get lucky!
Hi! Just updated my dji mavic pro today and it was my first time. The update was successful. But when i tried to update my two extra batteries, there was no warning about it, i put on the two batteries and seems nothing to be updated because upon laumching the dji go 4 app, there was no prompt that appeared. Waas that normal? Hope you can answer my little concern. Thanks sir!
is that a marco polo tracking transceiver tag on one of the mavic's arms? I just ordered one but wondered about where to place it to avoid blocking the GPS/RC antenna and VTX antenna- but wondered placing it on the arm, does that not affect the weight and balance of the Mavic meaning something needs adjusting to allow for that? Thank you & happy new year!
justinspirational It is the Marco Polo. In standby mode it does not transmit at all and when it does transmit when you activate it remotely it only pings once every 10 seconds. I did not notice any interference issues during active testing. It is very lightweight and it does not effect performance any more then a light breeze would.
Thank you- yeah that's true about not interfering with the RC and VTX (even if it was left fully tuned on as only in te 900MHz range) but don't want to block their transmission/recption either as well as the GPS's reception- I asked on the facebook mavic group and one person said "the GPS/Compass module is in the hump right behind the battery... don't block that... just don't put it way out near a motor otherwise may b ea slight imbalance... probably best on the flat area in front of the battery above the gimbal I would think... there's nothing in there ... no antennas ... just wiring for the camera and gimbal." so maybe cosnider the best place would be on the flat area in front of the battery above the gimbal as even though only 12g (plus whatever the tape weighs) out on the arm though not a weight issue may be a slight balance issue, for what it's worth
Ok this is my last, questions, batteries were full, it was checked out by DJI and remember firmware update 1000. You might have good luck, but if it falls on a return to landing, I wanted to let you know, I'm still shocked and shook up over this as if I just ignored the app firmware update she still would be flying
hi why does my wifi signal comes off whenever I connect my controller and aircraft and go for an update? even my laptop looses connection with wifi. thank you
Hey Chasiu75, I just bought my DJI and I also have a google Pixel. I am having trouble getting them to work together, do you have a video about how you did it or do you have any tips? Thanks.
Is that a marco polo tracker strapped to the arm? If so, how do you like, why did you choose to use it and finally...is the range far enough for use. Perhaps a separate review might be in order. thanks.
Checkered Flag Films Yes, that is the Marco Polo. I am still filming the review. Be sure to subscribe to get notified. It works great and does not require cellular service. Very good range.
hi , to be caustion. if you don't update the compass each time fly in different areas. I have a one time nearly loss my Dron mavic Pro in fly , it fly by itself to no where .wow. scare me at that moment. I quickly perform a shut down procedure, by turning the two joysticks to immediately power off. The drone drop from the sky 2 meter to the grass ground and a light damage. I was lucky the drone did not hurt anybody,
hi, thanks for this tutorial, im new to mavic, just did my first update and when i changed the battery it didn't find firmware nonresistance...should i be worried or this is due to some new features all together? anyone have the same situation?
Hi Did not know that about the battery. Funny that after an update when i put a battery in the system did not prompt be with the not compatible firmware on the next battery. Anyways my question for you is this. Two days ago i turned on the mavic and i see an Update notice. First, in your opinion anytime you turn on the Mavic and you see this notice do you do an update? And second have you ever clicked an Ignore? You see i updated and once finished i see the update is saying something about fixed wing. I have the option to Ignore or except. Does this apply to me? Thanks.
MrAm1400 There is a new update for fixed wing. Also they fixed a Litchi issue. You may not always get a notice for the battery if there is no changes to the firmware for it needed.
Also i see that they have a cover on the side of the Hub. I think the firmware can be done with the hub. At the hobby store i was told that you have to update firmware on the hub also. True or not?
The DJI Assistant 2 does not even see the hub at this time. Once there is a update for it you will have to update DJI Assistant 2 first. But there is no updates yet.
Nice video, but absolutely, positively does not work with my Mavic Pro. First, my batteries don't fully charge. Not sure why. Second, by app won't communicate with my drone. Again, not sure why. My drone was working fine before. Looks like I'll have to take mine in.
is was really disappointing they remove the profile "Art" after the firmware update! it was the best profile to use in post. I did some research on how to retrieve it back, I found 2 solution.. few video I saw is from using the Litchi app and selecting the "art" then go back to the DJI Go4 app. Second solution I found myself is I went back to the old Original DJI go app, select the "art" profile then go back to the DJI Go 4 app.
Never force update unless you’re prompted to do so and when it comes to fail and you’re on the air your manual skills flying the drone comes pretty handy.
Excellent video showing step by step of the actual "users's" point of view. So many tutorial videos edit with the camera showing the publisher while describing a step being executed, and it's annoying. You do it properly, and save the editorial for the end. As for calibrations, I won't comment on the IMU, but I would strongly recommend you re-calibrate the compass any time you fly in a new location. It's a matter of geography, not technology. Your geographical displacement relative to magnetic north is the key reason, especially if you factor in local geology, i.e. you're vacationing in the mountains - you should re-calibrate the compass before flying.
I flew a Autel X-star premium for over a year with zero problems the only reason I bought the Mavic was because of the distance, The Autel was absolutely flawless and their company that they are made is in the United States and their support staff is absolutely great. I am done complaining just pisst due to the poor support I got, To DJI, Good by
There is a backside of every coin. Also with DJI and its drones. They are fabulous, absolutely. Five big stars for the product. But if you have problem and need repair, DJI doesn’t even deserve one star. Before you can ship your drone for repair, you have to go through the most draconian DJI procedures, which looks like they are engineered, not in order to support you, but in order to keep you at bay. One thing weird DJI ask for before they even consider your drone for warranted service is that you download files from the drone - in my case 26 MB - and upload them to one of their sites. The procedure is very complicated and time absorbing, and it is almost impossible to figure out how to do it. Can you imagine what would happen if BMW asked you to bring your laptop to your carport and then connect it to the inboard computer in the cars engine room. And then upload it to a BMW server. And if you didn’t do that, they would’nt even consider to service your BMW. There would be uproar. This is however one of DJI’s tricks to obstruct you. It took an IT-pro and myself three hours to figure out how to send the files to DJI, just to run into the fact that the DJI site did not want to accept my password. The site said “we will send you a new password.” We tried several times, they never send a new password. You can not return a drone to DJI if you haven’t kept the original box. You can not deliver a drone yourself to their service-center. I have bought a protection plan, they couldn't care less. I did send all facts and a serial number one month ago. Suddenly they ask for copy of invoice and a serial number. Today they ask for a tracking number. It always back to step one with DJI. And most of the communication with them is with a robot which tell you to go to their website. They spam you with robot answers and you get nowhere. My crash was 9 February and I still haven't been able to fulfil all their demands to service my drone. However I have got 16 emails from DJI where they ask me how I value their service. Needless to say not very high. And do not buy a protection plan where they promise you replacement two times if you crash your Mavic. Too good to be true, but expensive. Michael Smith Fmr. Lol I’ve always wondered why they play that crap. It’s a bit of extra work to do it and the music is alway terrible.
It’s December 2024 and you presentation is still spot on and relevant 🙏👍
Thank you very much for this. Complete instructions with no steps bypassed like some other video's I've watched on this process. Keep up the great work.
Good, clear instructions there chasiu75. Very helpful. Thank you. I wonder how many of us forgot that the batteries need updating too - I did lol.
What's the yellow strap/attachment on one of the arms??

Didn't realize you had to do the batteries as well, thanks.

I really enjoy how you explain the operations, you do a good job. retired Police Captain State of Michigan Richard Miller
Thanks for the info. I got my Mavic last week and my maiden flight is planned for tomorrow.
Thank you for the instruction. Happy Fly!!!
Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed this one regarding updates...extremely informative! Thank you and keep them coming.

What is the item you ve added to the right arm of the drone ? with an antenna
Thanks so much! This is the video I wish I had found a month ago
Thanks, very informative and explained well.
Good video. Didn't know batteries should be updated too. Got my mavic today.
Thankyou. Very clear and easy to follow. The official DJI tutorial does not mention updating the batteries. Interesting.
I can only get as far as the download part at 3:05. From here i receive a *Network Disconnected pop up box. There are no network issues and im close to the router etc. Cant seem to find the answer for my Mavic 2
Thanks for the great tutorial. Only flew my mavic a couple times then winter hit. Nice to read this before going out to fly it again. Happy Flying
cheers for the video, il update mine this afternoon..
good video, I like the FAA sticker
It came with my FAA ID number stickers I ordered. I thought it may help avoid harassment if it looks more legit.
chasiu75 Thank you for another very informative video .. I just wanted to know what type camera, or go pro camera that you use to vlog with, because your vlog videos look great and I want to start vloging myself
Thanks Fraajr1
FAAJR1 I used the Canon 80D for all of those. It still is my main camera used here too.
I used to calibrate every flight but then got lazy I only do it when I am in faraway locations like out of state traveling now. Have not had any issues. Great job on video!
Mine stuck at 51%. Waited about 10 minutes and closed out and then it said update successful. Great video.
Very good explanation how to do it. Have never dared to make an update but now I will try. Hold my thumbs for me.
LIkewise, had no idea you had to do each battery. Thx Chas!!!
FYI: Chas, I had no conflicting software message(s) after the update with any of my spare batteries. I ran each one on the bird with no warnings no problems.
It is possible they made no changes to the firmware on the batteries for the latest update.
Awesome. Thanks for the info. Clear and easy to follow. Just subscribed. Again, thanks.
So you do this for each of your batteries?
Ii noticed that you always turn on the mavic first before the RC? as what i have learned from the manuals that rc first before aircraft. So which is really the correct way? thanks, nice video though.
The more popular official way is to turn on the RC first. It is safer. But for modern equipment I don't believe this to be a issue anymore so I will do it either way unless I hear of some problems from other people.
HATE! Ok, just kidding, you said to leave hate comments! Very good and helpful video. It's always good to watch the procedure if you've never done it before, which I haven't. Thanks for posting.
you have to connect your phone to the drone through the USB port?
Great tutorial, thank you very much.
The best upgrade vidio I seen. Good !
When it ask's you to "open the app" after reboot (in this case when you were around 99%) you should click open and that completes the firmware update rather than you force closing the app. Diffidently cycle the bower on all 3 after firmware update. (Phone, controller and Mavic). Good video.
Very good video. Are you using the DJI Go 4 app? Is better than the DJI Go? Thank you very much!
I use DJI Go 4 mostly. Both apps crash on me on Android. I found if I turn off video cache it will crash less.
you said you don't calibrate after update, did you do the initial calibration?
I only recalibrate when prompted. Never had an issue.
what editong software are you using for video in video?
Just watched your video and I shall update mine now as I cannot get pano mode on my new mavic
Awesome video
I did the latest firmware update but quick shots is not available in intelligence flight mode. Please assist
thx. Lots of help, had no problems following your advice
Hi thanks for the great video and for speaking so clearly ! What is that item with the yellow tape on the leg of the drone please. Many thanks again !
that is the Marco Polo
Thank You. I didnt know I had to do that for the battery. Do I need to calibrate the compass before I fly every time?
Zane Z. No need to calibrate the compass.
Excellent video..Thank You
Great tutorial.. I really needed that for my mavic. 👍🏽

12/27/2019 and never did a firmware update lol. Mavic flys great, Should I do a forced update?
You need to update the furmware on that wall clock, its stopped :)
Hi I was wondering what type of homing device do you have attached to the arm of the Mavic pro? Can you provide the make and the model and/or link for purchase. Thank you.
Michael Kaplan did you get an answer to your question I'm interested myself. ....
what is the thing stuck on the grone with tape please is it incase you lose it can you give me more info on it please thanks a lot
that is the Marco Polo
Very good advice, cheers jb.

kim Dierichsen thanks I have both now but I've yet to try it
Will you have obstacle avoidance Off when doing this?
cyrium1 No need to turn it off.
Thanks so much. Excellent!!
It gave me a black screen ..... how I fix that
mine now seems to overheat and / or turn off on its own accord while trying
how long did it take you in total? I've been waiting for 30minutes; but my internet speed might be slower than usual
Thanks man... very usefull
Does the DJI Go 4I app uses Google maps or HERE maps for android?
INTELMAXELL HERE maps.
chasiu75 Has that been working out ok using HERE? I hear horror stories with HERE.
INTELMAXELL I don't like it. My area has old aerial pictures.
do i need to have the mavic in wifi or rc mode?
Chase Robinson RC mode.
Thanks for the tutorial, i always forget the extra batteries!
Ok this is my last, questions, batteries were full, it was checked out by DJI and remember firmware update 1000. You might have good luck, but if it falls on a return to landing, I wanted to let you know, I'm still shocked and shook up over this as if I just ignored the app firmware update she still would be flying
Hi, have you had any signal problems with the mavic using the marco polo tracker? Just wondering because the tracker sends its own signal.
Thank you
Did you say you did this with airplane mode on? How did it download it on your phone?
wifi maybe
when I click the green bar like your screen , it go's to next page but I don't get the downloading banner at bottom of screen . any ideas
Will it continue the update? Or you can't update at all? Any errors?
hi why does my wifi signal comes off whenever I connect my controller and aircraft and go for an update? even my laptop looses connection with wifi. thank you
Hey Chasiu75,
I just bought my DJI and I also have a google Pixel. I am having trouble getting them to work together, do you have a video about how you did it or do you have any tips?
Thanks.
I seem to get it to connect by using the USB on the bottom of the RC but the micro USB wont allow the RC to connect to my Pixel.
thank you for update.
Tanks. Good informative video :)
I only did 1 time update when i first bought it and i was never prompted for any updates at all
thanks for the review. curious to what type/app screen recorder you use. do you like it?
Checkered Flag Films Mobizen, it works good when it works. Sometimes will crash and have to reinstall to get it to work again.
Is that a marco polo tracker strapped to the arm? If so, how do you like, why did you choose to use it and finally...is the range far enough for use. Perhaps a separate review might be in order. thanks.

Thanks, will do...look forward to the review....and please reciprocate with my channel as well.
Checkered Flag Films Just did. Thanks!
do u calibrate compass and imu ever time b4 a new fight
jocelyn simmons did you even watch the video
thanks for the video, question still remains though :) did it fix your gimble issue? and where is the cinematic mode?
Leon Kerpel It did fix the gimbal issue for me I believe. It is really cold now so I will test tomorrow. I will also check for Cinema mode.

OK Good Tanks. Really enjoy your channel. Keep it going.
Also i see that they have a cover on the side of the Hub. I think the firmware can be done with the hub. At the hobby store i was told that you have to update firmware on the hub also. True or not?
MrAm1400 I have not heard of a updated firmware release for the hub yet but it can be updated. I will check into it.
The DJI Assistant 2 does not even see the hub at this time. Once there is a update for it you will have to update DJI Assistant 2 first. But there is no updates yet.
crushing all the time, on 75% or sometimes on 90% can't install. it starts from beginning all the time :/
Nice video, but absolutely, positively does not work with my Mavic Pro. First, my batteries don't fully charge. Not sure why. Second, by app won't communicate with my drone. Again, not sure why. My drone was working fine before. Looks like I'll have to take mine in.
It doesn't let me update my battery I tried it
After i plugged my phone to my android phone, it didnt show the dji go 4 app or even the dji go. Please help me ;-;
is was really disappointing they remove the profile "Art" after the firmware update! it was the best profile to use in post.
Misael David Thanks, I was planning to make a video about that too show others. A lot of people like Art setting.
Never force update unless you’re prompted to do so and when it comes to fail and you’re on the air your manual skills flying the drone comes pretty handy.
im looking for 2018 updates DJI mavic Pro
mine is getting hung up at "comparing with server"
Excellent video showing step by step of the actual "users's" point of view. So many tutorial videos edit with the camera showing the publisher while describing a step being executed, and it's annoying. You do it properly, and save the editorial for the end.
As for calibrations, I won't comment on the IMU, but I would strongly recommend you re-calibrate the compass any time you fly in a new location. It's a matter of geography, not technology. Your geographical displacement relative to magnetic north is the key reason, especially if you factor in local geology, i.e. you're vacationing in the mountains - you should re-calibrate the compass before flying.
S6 edge won't work :(
Try using the bottom USB port to connect to your phone. Instead of the side one. (You need to unplug the small side one first though)
your remote is charging the phone also
I flew a Autel X-star premium for over a year with zero problems the only reason I bought the Mavic was because of the distance, The Autel was absolutely flawless and their company that they are made is in the United States and their support staff is absolutely great.
The site said “we will send you a new password.”
We tried several times, they never send a new password.
