    The variable powder charge with each shot is one of the best things about muzzleloaders. I can load my Pedersoli Bess with 30-40 grains of powder under the ball for a low-recoil, quiet plinking load, or I can load it with 100 grains for a more stout load. I know you can do the same with many modern guns, but you have to load a bunch of light and heavy cartridges, remember to bring them with you each time you go out, keep them separated, etc. With a muzzleloader you just load whatever amount you want for each shot on the fly.

    • @georgewashington1621
      @georgewashington1621 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it possible to use some kind of a load of shot with muzzleloaders if your hunting situation calls for a shot on small game like a squarrel or a rabbit or a snake or something like that?

    • @crominion6045
      @crominion6045 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgewashington1621 With a smoothbore like the Bess you absolutely can. You have to play around with shot and powder amounts to see what your gun patterns best with. You can do the same in a rifled ML, but the rifling tends to do weird things with shot patterning, so you'd likely be limited to very close range (think traditional archery hunting ranges). Who knows, though? You might find a powder charge and shot load that does fairly well even through rifling. You just have to experiment and see how it goes.

    • @georgewashington1621
      @georgewashington1621 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@crominion6045 Oh crud, ofcourse! I forgot that the one in the video has rifling and rifling does wierd things to shot, i've seen how people shot shotshells from their shotguns with rifled chokes through paper on youtube!

    • @crominion6045
      @crominion6045 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgewashington1621 One other thing: do not use steel shot in a ML. You want to use lead or bismuth, something soft enough not to damage your bore. Modern shotgun bores are protected by the plastic wad/shot cup, but MLs have the shot right against the bore. Some have messed around with using modern shotgun wads in certain smoothbore MLs, but I've never tried it, so I don't know how well it works.

    I got mine in the 1970s. Had it fixed up fir NSSA competition. Mine was made in England by Parkwr Hale. Altered trigger pull to 3 1/2 pounds, filled rear sight with silver solder then made a knife file cut. Used red nail polish on front sight. Got a mold for proper caliber. They came in various ".58" sizes like .577, .575, etc. Found abiut 43 grains of FF was good for 50 yd target load. Liked it much better than the Springfield

    в этом не раз. Хороший ножик
    выручит в трудную минуту, но
