I have owned a RDX and TL Type S and I’ve really liked how much effort Acura has put into this generation MDX. The last generation was to similar to the Pilot. I really wish Acura would bring back the hybrid tech that they borrowed from the NSX. The design is beautiful. I really think the only area hurts is not having touch screen. The touch pad isn’t intuitive, and the issue is that people use Apple CarPlay the most. I get people say they’ll get used to it… but you shouldn’t have to get “used” to it. I also think that it defeats the purpose when you go to Apple CarPlay since it becomes a pad. Lastly- I just watched Throttle House’s review of the new Lexus. I really, really wish Acura would bring back the “SLX”. Imagine for a second if Acura took its SHAWD, gave it a boxier body, skid plates, kept the luxury items and made an off road. Similar to a Pilot but just much nicer. The market is there for those type of SUVs. Wishful thinking.
@@atmartens actually it wouldn’t. The “L” is used for sedans. It would have to be something with “D” like MDX and RDX. Maybe SDX. I like GDX but that’s too close to the Lexus GX and Benz has the GLS. Test drove one today. Was great. But i found on comfort mode it was a little floaty. And didn’t eat the bumps as well as I thought for a car with air suspension. Pretty cool how the car drops a bit on sport +
The one i agree, as an owner of a 3.7L engine with SH-AWD, i love flooring the car to 95MPH, u actually sink into your seat and mu car does not have fake sound pumped into the cabin. Also the selector or Placebo selector, is total garbage on the Advance MDX. I doubt the type S is any different.
On my short list, but I guess I am one of the dwindling number of people that find it concerning for any vehicle to not have a spare tire. Granted, we don't have as many flat tires are we did back in the day, but most times now flat tires are the result of hitting road debris, bad potholes, etc. "Self sealing" tires don't get you home in those situations.
I was looking at an MDX Type S yesterday. I can't justify spending $75K on one, but I would be a serious buyer at $67K. On an unrelated note - I was very tempted to cut a check for a new Integra. They had one in the show room for $33K. That is the same price Toyota is asking for a GR86.
Great review as always. As a family who have owned several Honda and Acura products including our current Pilot. So wish Honda/Acura would offer a hybrid version in this platform.
I love it I think it's awesome I want this advance type S version but I not want to tread in my 05 MDX sh awd 05 it drives great so it looks like I will have 2 of dem and nice video content sir.
My family had a Passport Elite and I couldn’t stand the safety tech. Subaru’s Eye Sight from my experience is the better. Consumer Reports typically sides with Honda, Toyota and Subaru due to the number of standard safety tech and the effectiveness.
What is the difference between an actual "sport+" with the dynamic nob vs "sport" and pushing the transmission drive button again. On the dash, the transmission turns from a "D" to an "S". And I notice it holds the RPM a little bit longer.
I am loving this car but I have to say as a Mechanic, thats not good if the car shuts off the engine when you open the hood. If your doing diagnostic work how are you supposed to do that then? lol Also, im sure thats going to cause a ton of problems in the future as well, I can just see it now. Whatever kind of sensor they have hooked up to that to detect the hood is open, if it goes bad does that mean you wont be able to start the engine? questions to Acura that need to be asked.
As a "Mechanic", you should know that a lot of modern cars have service modes accessed via a bi-direction scan tool..... You are not even supposed to put cars with air suspensions (esp. w/auto leveling) on lifts before entering service mode or you will damage the suspension.
@@ckm-mkc Yeah I know about the air suspension and not putting them on lifts without it being properly configured but my thing was the engine shutting off and what does having to be a "Mechanic" have to do with knowing or not knowing about service modes? Did I ever state I was a mechanic that fixed cars all day no I didnt! I just said as being a mechanic more specifically a bus mechanic and also car mechanic in previous work, and the fact that I still do my own work on my cars and family. I am just making a point that I could see that becoming an issue, not just for working on it but if that sensor goes bad your car will stranded because its going to think the hood is open. Also, what if someone is adding washer fluid or oil or whatever and the owner of the car doesn't understand that the engine shuts off, they are immediately going to think something is wrong with the car. So before making accusations of someone being or not being a "Mechanic" you should probably ask them.
Honda should make a suv specific offroader. In my opinion the new pilot trailsport, should be rename HONDA PILOT HFP OFFROAD. Idk ill be really nice to have that naturally aspirated 10 speed v6. With 4runner goodies. Like atrac, mult terrain select ect if u know u know
I want this. I have no need for the 3rd row … I need the cargo space with the 3rd row seats down, which seem to go down nice and flat. This simply doesn’t have to be a “3 row” suv.

Consider opting for a 2024 BMW X3 Competition at a comparable price, and you'll be pleased with your choice. The German counterpart surpasses Honda in terms of performance and overall quality.
One of the major critisim that I have with Honda is their inherent obsession with front wheel drive and make technologies to make this fwd feel like rwd theor awd system... Honda/Acura might even lauvh a luxury sedan or sports sedan or even an off-road crossover and still mout the engine transversely

@user-kr2sd8rh6b Until I see head to head comparison this would be very difficult to believe. As those mentioned above car makers are well established with sports cars.
@user-kr2sd8rh6b no it’s a premium brand. Acura themselves says it’s a premium brand. Lexus is a luxury brand. Yes both have parent companies. Acura is all made in the usa with most sold in the usa. It’s not in Japan.
So sad Acura can not sale these things.. $70,000 gas guzzler. And you get nothing butca straight line suv. And it is only a engine compared to the regular Mdx at $50,000. This guy is reviewing this like it is a new 2024 car.. it is not!! They just can not sale this thing.. if they made it a hybrid and lowered the price. It would sale. Read true reviews. He is not being true!
It's time for the Japanese to stop imposing their ideas on multimedia management! I like Japanese cars, but the design of the interiors and multimedia smacks of antiquity!
MDX don't have options. Unless you count warranty and floor mats as options. Type S only comes in Ultra (US called advanced) and it is MSRP 88000 CAD, A 4% increase from 2023. What exactly are you talking about as jacked up price?
Touchscreens are a disaster in cars, you might as well be using your phone while driving. If you care about avoiding accidents, this or idrive is a much, much better solution.
You really don't get how ergonomically perfectly located is the touchpad. It is actually a superior driving experience than reaching forward to touch the screen. I have a second vehicle that is a touchscreen and I absolutely find it more distracting to use while driving than the touchpad. But everyone has a different brain so it is important that you get what you want. Acura should have made it dual function, but under that scenario I would still use the touchpad 80% of the time. It has a great cockpit feel.
@@ckm-mkcUnfortunately people don't get it. They have been conditioned to believe touchscreen equals a superior driving experience when in reality it doesn't. The touchpad offers a safer driving experience and it is ergonomically perfectly located.

I had an 2023 X5 loaner for a about a month, it was just about the worse SUV I've driven. Loud, uncomfortable, enormous with bad internal space and didn't handle that well. There are much better options out there - if you have to have a BMW, the 540i M-Sport I had for 3 weeks was incredible, much, much better and way better built than the X5.
X5 is nice too but sort of basic looking vs type s. B58 engine and transmission are awesome powerful and efficient. Mdx has good handling feel and a bit of a more exciting drive compared to lower x5 models. But x5 can be better as the x5 v8 and x5m versions. Both are good but 75k is high regardless. Type s doesn’t get the prestige but it’s a good value for the money- good features and nice driving with some type s style. BMW is a better chassis and more expensive and just impressive powertrains across the board. Basically the x5 in general is a better car but it’s better because you pay more. Mdx is really good for the money. I usually expect the better car to be more expensive even though it’s not always the case.

But the SLX was made by Isuzu (Trooper) so Acura never really built an off-road oriented boxy SUV.
@@senorgato70 I know…but based off their names, if they did do something like that, SLX would make sense for a name.
@@atmartens actually it wouldn’t. The “L” is used for sedans. It would have to be something with “D” like MDX and RDX. Maybe SDX. I like GDX but that’s too close to the Lexus GX and Benz has the GLS. Then again Lexus has their RX and Acura has the RDX, so maybe a Lexus GX and Acura GDX can co-exist.
Test drove one today. Was great. But i found on comfort mode it was a little floaty. And didn’t eat the bumps as well as I thought for a car with air suspension.
Pretty cool how the car drops a bit on sport +
Any chance you'll get hold of the Audi S8 before its gone?
Acura makes a spare tire (doughnut) kit for these, if that would lessen your concern any.
I am surprised you didn't comment much on the ELS system, you mentioned it but didn't comment on the quality for a stock stereo system.
Nice car, love the V6 but I don't think it's worth the price.
They did it when no one offered but did that little differently on the sportier side.. no one cared back then
I love it I think it's awesome I want this advance type S version but I not want to tread in my 05 MDX sh awd 05 it drives great so it looks like I will have 2 of dem and nice video content sir.
Am always curious, which brand or auto maker has the best and effective safety features? Grouped by luxury and non luxury brands.
My family had a Passport Elite and I couldn’t stand the safety tech. Subaru’s Eye Sight from my experience is the better. Consumer Reports typically sides with Honda, Toyota and Subaru due to the number of standard safety tech and the effectiveness.
I mean.... The iihs literally tests these things very scientifically and rates every vehicle out there.
Having no timing chain and touchscreen is not a good selling point to me, other than that, it’s a great vehicle.
We need RDX Type S
Seriously! Hopefully the next generation will.
Hoping it will come 5+ yrs from now, so I get my money worth of my '22 RDX and then upgrade
I think you just open the hood, then turn it on. Acura has always been safety oriented, in many ways.
@@allbaugh04 Oh no I agree they have been but I am hoping your right and thats the case otherwise we gonna have some problems lmfao
as looking for a comment on this as well. What a strange "feature". It would bother the hell out me of imo
Where was this filmed? the big mountain etc ??
Pacific NW. The big mountain is Mount Rainier.

Honda should make a suv specific offroader. In my opinion the new pilot trailsport, should be rename HONDA PILOT HFP OFFROAD. Idk ill be really nice to have that naturally aspirated 10 speed v6. With 4runner goodies. Like atrac, mult terrain select ect if u know u know
I'm interested, but I'm waiting for the 2025 model, lots of changes coming I hear....
how's the comfort on these? I really want a cushy plush ride and I heard the suspension isnt that great on an MDX vs similarly specced Lexus SUVs?
I want this. I have no need for the 3rd row … I need the cargo space with the 3rd row seats down, which seem to go down nice and flat. This simply doesn’t have to be a “3 row” suv.
This is how I use my 2011 Acura MDX. The 3rd row is never used but I lug all of my gear around.
Wanted to buy the new MDX but I hate the infotainment system they use
You get used to it when you drive it daily.
It sucks they know it people hate it and they just keep using it. Vote with your pocketbook
It’s not bad. Just don’t use it with Car Play.
@@ryanb8736Who wouldn’t want to use Apple Car Play…? Music and maps are in my phone..
They're changing it, and I will miss it. Keeps your eyes on the road much better than a touch screen.
Great Review.
Can you do a review on the MDX Type-S in the snow or offroad?
A video of the RDX offroad would be great too 😊
We wanted to do a snow review with this one, but the weather hasn't been accommodating. It's been unseasonably warm. Even our mountain passes are bare.
@@drivingsports yeah it's been a terribly warm winter szn in the Toronto area too.
Thanks for your great videos either way.
Consider opting for a 2024 BMW X3 Competition at a comparable price, and you'll be pleased with your choice. The German counterpart surpasses Honda in terms of performance and overall quality.
Awesome rig, really nice🥰
Why do some reviews say that the brake pedal is different than previous MDX's? Can anyone explain that?
Fantastic review. Thank you
This thing would be way cooler if it was even lower, a 3 row shaggin-waggen
With the 2025 MY coming out, this is a great time to buy the 2024.
Acura doesn't seem to be discounting the 2024 model.
Most likely my next vehicle!
A hybrid system and a couple more inches in the 3rd row and this car would be perfect..
Is mdx come with spare tire ?
One of the major critisim that I have with Honda is their inherent obsession with front wheel drive and make technologies to make this fwd feel like rwd theor awd system...
Honda/Acura might even lauvh a luxury sedan or sports sedan or even an off-road crossover and still mout the engine transversely
Have any diesel engine options?
No
Warning! Anyone that buys one of these Acura's please make sure you get wheel locks 🔐🔒 and tire/wheel warranty. Thief's are high right now on these Acura's
Looks more luxurious than a new GX550
ı like the design this to much abrasive and sporty
75K ? No tnx.
2:47 So when its 3rd row seats are folded down, the 2024 MDX has the same cargo capacity as the 2024 CR-V?? How?!? 🤔
It’s that low roof line

How to make enough money to be able to buy this amazing car
You lost me at $75K 😢
Well it’s in the market of BMW X5
Mercedes GL
And at least the Acura will probably outlast both.
I 100% agree 👍
SG did a much better review of the MDX Type-S last year.
Is he really making a comparison to the Lamborghini Urus? How does it stack up against the Mercedes GLE AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, or Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, not to mention the Maserati Levante and the Aston Martin DBX?
@user-kr2sd8rh6b Until I see head to head comparison this would be very difficult to believe. As those mentioned above car makers are well established with sports cars.
@user-kr2sd8rh6bacura is premium not luxury
Motor Trend picked the RX 500h F Sport Performance over the mdx type s
@user-kr2sd8rh6b no it’s a premium
brand. Acura themselves says it’s a premium brand. Lexus is a luxury brand. Yes both have parent companies. Acura is all made in the usa with most sold in the usa. It’s not in Japan.
@user-kr2sd8rh6b no acuras are made in Japan. The RLX was the last one. That was discontinued.
Implement a touch screen. Soo late to the game, why delay??
Интересный автомобиль
This type s or gv80
So sad Acura can not sale these things.. $70,000 gas guzzler. And you get nothing butca straight line suv. And it is only a engine compared to the regular Mdx at $50,000. This guy is reviewing this like it is a new 2024 car.. it is not!! They just can not sale this thing.. if they made it a hybrid and lowered the price. It would sale. Read true reviews. He is not being true!
We don’t need a 3 row SUV, but I’m looking for a 2 row with a 3.5L V6 and a geared automatic transmission
I think that is what the Honda pilot (or is it Passport? I can never remember) is for.
Have you seen his review of the Honda Passport? Even the older 2019 Passport may work for you

It's time for the Japanese to stop imposing their ideas on multimedia management! I like Japanese cars, but the design of the interiors and multimedia smacks of antiquity!
In Canada Acura has jacked the price and the price of options. Well over a 100K
MDX don't have options. Unless you count warranty and floor mats as options. Type S only comes in Ultra (US called advanced) and it is MSRP 88000 CAD, A 4% increase from 2023. What exactly are you talking about as jacked up price?
No touch screen is a dealbreaker. I don’t want to learn how to use the trackpad thingy when I could just press what I want on a screen. 🤷🏼♂️
To each his own. We purchased a Type S in December coming from an XC90 and actually prefer the MDX setup to the Volvo touchscreen. Easier to use.
The fake engine sound pumped into the cabin sucks, why do they pump that into cabin, i be fine if tou could turn it ON and OFF.
Heck yeah vroom vroom!
Looked promising but that f*$%ing touchpad ruined it for me. Why can't they learn that touchpads sucks🙄
No real mechanical gauges? This is not a premium vehicle.
Wish it was a touchscreen. That’s the only thing preventing me from buying it
Truly flat after two roll seats folded, only Honda takes space usefulness seriously.👍
I really like the exterior, but does anyone else feel the interior is overstyled and fugly?
I like the gages however I don’t like that it’s a touch pad system.

For $75k, you'd have to be a special kind of stupid to get this over a BMW X5. I have an Acura and the build quality is embarrassing. Last Acura we'll ever own.
What don't you like about it? I just can't own a car where the company made vehicles and engines for N@zi's 🇩🇪 , but that's just me
You ought to hear what the Japanese did in world war II....
What a disastrous overpriced, poorly executed and does not age well vehicle. It’s becoming harder to find a reliable 10 year old Acuras on the road.
