It's not as much the transmission difference, but the fact that the Accura weighs a whole lot less. The hemi's torque advantage fills the wider ratios without problem and launches the Durango harder. No surprise since Honda competes in F1. Who is Dodge..err I mean Stellantis? A multinational conglomerate that is going to pick the pockets of American fans until Dodge is buried alongside Pontiac, Oldsmobile, AMC, Plymouth, Mercury and eventually Buick. All bark, no bite.
In looking at American brands, seems like Dodge has fallen behind the times in technology. You cannot keep making cars without giving it thought, functionality and ergonomics. Acura MDX has been an Acura staple since 2001, when the MDX model showed up at the dealerships. Since it has been in a constant evolution, while now its in the 4th generation, Acura will continue to evolve their best family do it all SUV. I owna 2011 MDX with SH-AWD and the MDX truly makes the best out of torque vectoring technology. Something that was offered way back on the 2nd generation, not many understand the importance of it or the application of it. My MDX with 3.7 v6 engine has a 300hp in the base configuration, while the engine lacks efficiency, there is plenty of torque available at low revs. I believe my MDX with only 115k miles will definitely last 200k with very basic maintenance. Acura reliability is definitely worthy attribute. Not sure how reliable Durango can be past 100k miles.
The Durango keep its tow specks so it can still do it work but stay fast enough to get in to traffic and interstates with a huge trailer with sacrificing its capabilities as a power factory
The 10-speed in the new Acura models are super quick around 50/60 mph (I’m in the u.s) the car holds all the power around corners, Hondas/acuras are better on rolls vs a drag no doubt about it.
I love my MDX, I almost bought a Durango, the Durangos look great but I really don’t trust American cars anymore, my 2015 Silverado has had nothing but problems, it has been well maintained and it’s just one thing after another, it’s broke down right now, I have a 2000 Silverado that still runs great with 240k on it, of course I had to put some work into it, my Expedition had catastrophic failure at 200k.
Try a tow and go edition Durango rt has a srt drivetrain track mode adaptive damping suspension exhausted tuned ecu for 145 mph and a limited slip rear and brembo brakes and srt wheels
The durango body is old and dull like an old knife. I give the MDX an A+ for hood body lines and semi-aggressive front fascia, while it may not be the fastest suv, seems like the Type S does have a good sequence of logic to appoint the best shift depending on how hard you push the engine. I wish the types S was as fast as the X5, without even trying , X5 has a lot more HP even in the basic trim level, but of course the Germans got the know how to make a car fun!

I think the only way the Durango would win is if it was on slicks and the MDX S was on snow tires on this tarmac (temperature greater than 50 Fahrenheit). I'm kind of surprised so many people are kind of surprised the Durango lost.
@@treyvon4444 They could go bigger with a hot-v turbo set-up, but you're starting to think more about oil cooling there, as well as potentially worse reliability for the bearings/gaskets given the enormous amount of heat generated in that area with a hot-v. servicing would also be ultra super-sh*tty.
@@ryanshannon6963 They fine just how they are. Ill rather have less hp then more problems with the engine. I had 7 Acuras and never had any problems with the engines and I pushed them hard.
Is that the tow and go trim for the Durango? If I'm not mistaken the tow and takes some drivetrain goodies from the srt
Tow and go gets suspension/brakes but not engine/transmission upgrades so overall the performance results would remain the same.
@@S8ER doesn't it have launch control
@@TrentonThomas627 no launch control. It does have Snow, Tow, Eco and Track mode though. (Just confirmed with my friend who owns a 2022)
@@S8ER I read on the forums it has the srt transfer case , SRT exhaust, srt tires as well. I'm sure on the dyno it likely puts out slightly more than the regular rt
@@TrentonThomas627 yeah it may have the transfer case (I did just see comments about that), transmission looks to be the same as the R/T and it keeps the R/T gearing.
MDX Type S 💪💪
Put 2 people in the MDX and see who wins
@@Freddy_Confetti still the MDX, even if you have 7, because Dodge is ass
Tryna compare a stock hemi vs a supercharged car is delusional 😂😂 search up 392 cs type s 💪🤯
Power to weight ratio. But, the tow and go RT durango would be a match with a fully loaded mdx type s in my opinion. And would be much interesting race for sure. 😎👍
What altitude, what fuel and was the Dodge in sport mode?
I’d take the cheaper N/A V8 over the turbo V6 personally
Only one of them is a true SUV .. usable 3 rd row .. good sounding V8 , and body
And a better towing vehicle, Durango, all the way .
We need that X7 “xdrive40i” vs mdx type S
Agreed, X7 would be interesting. I've got a GLS 450, I'd love to see how it does against these SUVs also. Should be competitive on paper.
@@Driver.Diaries gls450 would be a perfect match too & the ford expedition platinum (swb) only because thats making 400hp from the 3.5TT
It's not as much the transmission difference, but the fact that the Accura weighs a whole lot less. The hemi's torque advantage fills the wider ratios without problem and launches the Durango harder. The power to weight ratio difference really comes into effect at higher speeds. The Accura may also be more aerodynamic, but I'm not sure.
Better transmission??? Nah more like power to weight ratio, how the fuck can you guys not figure that out????
Honda Pilot vs Durango RT would be interesting match since they have similar 0-60
They should have put it against the grand Cherokee not the Durango
It would be good to compare D segment SUVs like the Ford Edge, Grand Cherokee, Santa Fe, etc. in their sports models.please
Does the Durango have a ZF8?
Yes
@@dbobeatz6175 The ZF8 is a great transmission. But I know not all ZF8's are "Created Equal". Depends how the transmission was tuned from the factory and probably very sleepy in the Durango's case. I've had a SQ5, X3 M40i and now a X3M and all 3 have/had the ZF8. The ZF8 in the BMW's feel night and day from the Audi. Most likely the way BMW tuned them from the factory.
Sorry Max, but your test wasn't really a fair comparison unless you have the "TOWnGO" package on the Durango. TOWnGO changes the shift ratios on the ZF transmission plus it includes all the SRT performance goodies that improve 0-60 to 5.7 seconds - equal to the MDX Type S. Without the TOWnGo package, you should only be comparing this Durango to the non-Type S MDX.
My 2018 Forester XT took an R/T to gapplebees. I think the better match up for the Acura would of been the SRT or even an Explorer ST
Tow & go Rt will do 150mpg and it have track mode and I think that will be a good match for the mdx.
The srt is not a match for mdx but the tow & go rt is, so please get 1 and rematch It with the mdx
I want one pronto .......only wish it looked a little more aggressive but ill take it now
Please Sam, Acura MDX Type S vs Lexus RX500h F performance
Thats a walk
Should be TX not RX
Forced Induction vs Natural Aspirated
Turbo will win 9/10 no comparison, Smaller Displacements winds up faster, just physics most of the time 🙄🙄
MDXs are crafted with perfection..big up Honda 👍🏼
Durango is almost 500 lbs heavier and has 2 less gears. The extra torque can’t make up such big disadvantage. Those short gears in Acura really help it too. Durango is overpriced. I’d pay a bit more to get a much better and newer Acura (or perhaps a Durango SRT). Or I’d find a Durango with a big discount and enjoy the sound of that Hemi V8 every time I drive it. I personally could care less about what car or truck is the fastest. Hearing that awesome V8 would put a smile on my face every time.
Please race MDX Type S vs Lexus RX500h, which CarNDriver said smokes the Type S but I dont believe it. I think they raced it in comfort mode or some BS.
Let's not forget that acura is basically their version of SRT. 500 lbs is a lot. Hemi sounds amazing w
So many factors, but I love my Acura
With today's truck stupid prices, I'm definitely looking at the 2025/26 MDX Type S when my lease is up.
Nice video keep up the good work Sam
The Type S is an awesome truck but why is it against the R/T and not the SRT 392? Wouldn’t the A spec Vs the RT be on a better level?
360bhp type s vs 485bhp 392 srt…seems fair to you?
@@SamCarLegion well these things are heavy as hell and that Type S is no slouch by any means. Also the SRT and Type S are more comparable price wise ya know
I did not hear the trans in the Durango down shift in the roll race.
Mdx is a all around better suv plane and simple Durango is junk
Sport mode/ and use shifters pleaseeee as yes weight is a difference as well
Acura all day but it needs a lil more hp. Love that Super handling awd system. A lot of people sleeping on it.
I have a 2018 MDX for the new ones to have that type S badge they should have a minimum of 450 hp very disappointed in Acura for shaming the type S badge (look good tho)
Put it up against the srt durango. Think that's more it's(acura) gear than will talk
You know what up for sure.
Yeah stellantis is doing their American companies a disservice I don’t see Chrysler are dodge lasting 5 years
@@danielmelendez9943 but but but dodge demon 1000hp stock $100k
@@kaycertified clearly 1000HP is totally unnecessary but you do have a point. however, how many people buy a Dodge demon?
What people don’t realize is the RT is base Durango model, while the MDX is the highest model. Try base MDX to the RT!
Base is the V6
Yeah no performance/car guys buy the 5.7 Durango if they want to go fast. They go for the 6.4 Durango and up.
There's something called a budget.@@speedracerjeff
Dodge RT models all have the Hemi motor. Stop making excuses.
The Durango keep its tow specks so it can still do it work but stay fast enough to get in to traffic and interstates with a huge trailer with sacrificing its capabilities as a power factory
I feel like Acura never gave the Type S name a chance in todays world. Another 30hp and would’ve made it so much more relevant
@@Chris-rb8ri type slow
This video got the mopar boys sick asf lmao 🤣 ggs.
MDX is more aerodynamic, lighter, has a 10 speed transmission, huge advantage. The Durango needed about 30 more HP to be in the mix.
You should bring a Durango Rt tow & go that's more of a rt sport than a regular rt
Sam would love to see you do a MDX Sport Hybrid vs MDX Type S.
The Durango is a good bit heavier but it has a RWD layout which is much better then anything with a transversly mounted engine in my opinion.
The max is surprising I’m a tsx owner (needs a j) and love the tlx type s sexy car (we need a wagon!)
The Durango is much heavier and trust me i used to have the Durango SRT 392 when it first came out. That bad boy was heavy.
That purple shimmer on the mdx 🫠
Try a tow and go edition Durango rt has a srt drivetrain track mode adaptive damping suspension exhausted tuned ecu for 145 mph and a limited slip rear and brembo brakes and srt wheels
So there IS replacement for displacement.
I just had a 2023 rango hemi for a rental and it moves fr
You need to use manual mode and go back into automatic to rule out the kickdown reaction times.
This would’ve been a good race for the N/a v6 fwd MDX.
We need to see the MDX vs a RAV4 Prime!
Dodge needs to up there displacement, that's what they are good at
I'm sensing a Ford Explorer vs the Dodge Durango drag race might be next.
Type S smacked that Durango up!
