F-150 Multi-function Switch Replacement | DIY | My F-150 Wipers WON'T SHUT-OFF

  • I had to replace my multifunction switch on my F1 50. Apparently this is a very common problem and I figured I would make a video so you guys can see what I did to fix this! Basically what had happened was my windshield wipers would just never shut off and it became a problem because they ran 24 seven. This intern would make my windshield wiper motor wear out overtime and have to get new windshield wipers all of the time because they would never shut off even when it wasn’t raining.
    Super simple swap I got all the parts from Napa auto parts the part number is in the thumbnail photo. It’s probably cross reference for a couple different years but this was for my 2018 F150.
    Tools needed:
    -7/32 ratchet
    -T10 torx bit
    -screwdriver
    It’s very simple save yourself the headache and the money and just do it at home. Assuming the dealership with charge a lot of money to diagnose and fix the problem. Plus Ford parts are more expensive they might be more reliable who knows.

    3 bolts are actually 5.5mm. Thanks for the video. Never knew this was an issue until it happened! I didn't pull fuse, and all is good. I happened to find a genuine Motorcraft one for only a few bucks more. 10 min fix.

    Before you buy the new wiper control unit, pull the old one out, check to see if there is white powdery substance on the connection, that's what mine had, could have possibly cleaned it and reused my old arm. I had already purchased the new one, so I went with it. hope this helps.

      The guy below is right and it is a grease issue. Clean with alcohol or contact cleaner. Use a toothbrush and clean the inside of the connector housing and the switch. Save $50.00 first.

      cleaning the white grease seems to have worked for me too. there was a lot of grease in there. used 70% isopropyl and a tooth brush to clean and a dry paper towel to wipe off any splatter. put it back together and let my truck run for a bit and the wipers never came on unless i turned the dial! very helpful

    What's up man. Same issue here. I replaced the part and like you said it's a little stiff and mine makes a weird clicking sounds when I have the blinker on and I make a turn. Is yours like that? Also, my blinker sometimes doesn't turn off when I make the turn. I bought mine from Napa and then I tried one from AutoZone and they both do the same same thing. Clicking sound don't sound good lol I don't know if I'm going have to get the original part

    • @Sean_Hannon
      @Sean_Hannon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got mine from Napa as well and it was a little stiff at first. It’s been some time now and everything seems normal with it. Not sure why your blinker wouldn’t turn off though. Mine did make a little click but after a while it seems to be fine! Maybe try an oem one from ford parts??

    • @cdnov1991

      I just found out that the part number is a different number if you have "Rain Sensing" wipers. I will get the correct one tomorrow. I hope it fixes the problem. My fault, not AutoZone's fault, I told him the part number. Live and learn!
