I am a huge Indian Cricket team fan. But I have NEVER seen a cricketer like Ben Stokes. In my generation (I am a 70's kid), ONLY Beefy and Ben have captured a fan's imagination beyond one's wildest dreams. I mean, this is superhero stuff by England from past couple of years. Purest form of entertainment really! You feel like paying and watching even if England play Bangladesh, because that is how entertaining these English Cricketers are and I don't even feel that way with the Indian Cricket team off late. Hats off to Ben Stokes, an unbelievable leader of men! NO words really.

As a India fan, this has been the best result from a great match. India winning at canter would have put people off this series both in England and India. Now there is interest in both countries and hopefully every game is as tough as this one and we get to Dharamshala 2-2! But India have work to do to get 2 wins in the next three games against this England side.

Having watched English test cricket for more years than I care to mention the current regime is such a breath of fresh air. England now play with a freedom and joy that has never been seen before. It makes one wonder what previous great test teams would have been like with a similar captaincy/management. Let's hope the media stay behind English test cricket irrespective of future results because they have become eminently watchable.

The fact that he has that awareness and ability to improve is encouraging. If he can continue to improve over this series, given his ability with the bat as well, he could become an England regular.

It’s not good for anybody on either extreme. Yes it might help India to win, but sometimes the big picture is important. Nobody wants to watch one sided games, or a supposed 5 day test match that ends in 2 days like the recent game in SA. It’s hard to get it right, but this pitch was pretty great. England won a few years ago when root scored a double ton in Chennai and after that India made horrible dust bowls. I'm afraid that is what we will see. Ideally a pitch should last 5 days. Doctoring pitches has already cost India the world cup final.

Pope and Hartley were outstanding, and Stokes and McCullum deserve credit for their leadership. India were too complacent and overconfident, and paid the price for it. They need to learn from this defeat and come back stronger in the next match. This series is far from over, and I hope India will show their true potential and fight back. Well played Ollie Pope in a bowler-friendly pitch. Another good example that how a batter should adopt the situation quickly in favor other than complaining. I believe that Indian batmen have avoided sweeping and reasonable reverse sweeping that made the different.

Stunning effort by Hartley and the English as it must have looked insurmountable needing 190 to make India bat again. The Australian game showed up a few cracks. The pivotal moment was the dismissal of Carey in the first innings. Sometimes you just have to rein it in and another 30 would have been invaluable. Good to see Starc go after the bowling in the second innings. I believe he needs to play his shots fearlessly rather than just try to hang around.

India missed the energy of Kohli, Shami and Pant.
Eng did great, especially Pope 👏, Hartley and Stokes captaincy. Also a good game for Root, Duckett and Foakes.
But a lot of timid batting and poor shots by Ind. Gill and Shreyas need a break. Crumbled under slightest pressure. Siraj too perhaps.
Ironically, in 2021 also, Eng won the first Chennai test and then lost the series. It will be a long and fun series at this rate;)
Vihari, Patidar, Sarfaraz, Sundar, Tilak... Lot of good options IF they get picked. Current Ind management and coach have odd plans though.

India needs to select cricketers who actually done well in the domestic circuit, those who know to play in spinning wickets. Not selecting Sarfaraz Khan who has scored mountains of domestic runs year after year and averages 70 plus is extremely unfair, wasting his peak years. Gill, Iyer and Rahul have got so many chances on the basis of white ball performances, they even selected Suryakumar instead of Sarfaraz in Australia series, unbelievable.

Jadeja's absence due to hamstring could be seen as advantageous for Indian cricket. While Jadeja is undeniably talented, his approach on the field has been perceived as selfish. His track record includes running out several teammates, such as Hardik Pandya in the Commonwealth, Rahane in a test match for a personal milestone, and Ashwin on multiple occasions, often prioritizing his own wicket. In a team sport, the emphasis should ideally be on collective success rather than individual achievements. Looking ahead, India's prospects in upcoming tests seem promising. For the team composition, it might be beneficial to consider Rajat Patidar as a replacement for Gill, focusing on a more team player.

I still feel there is a long way to go in series, England won on the basis of only two persons. Though I still feel Pope is not a player for this type of condition for he plays with hard hands, he got away with poor fielding and slowness of the pitch. Last time also England won the 1st test, ended up loosing the series 3-1. Long way to go....

I'm glad India lost. Something similar happened a few years ago when root scored a double hundred in Chennai and England won. Unfortunately, it means rank turners for the rest of the test matches. Ashwin jadeja are no warne and Murali and need rank turners to get wkts. I hope India stops doctoring pitches. It already cost them the world cup final. I wish we could play on tracks that last 5 days.

Don't know whether it was fear or complacency, but India started day 3 with absolutely no intent to score despite having two good batsmen who were set at the crease. We carried the same passiveness into our fielding/bowling effort and England put us to the sword with their brilliant attacking play.
It was as if Pope's 196(and the poor fielding) zapped the Indian's spirit because when we came out to chase the target none of the Indian batters showed the testicular fortitude to take charge of the run chase and not allow the English spinners to settle into a rhythm. Great credit to England because they could've doubted themselves after being 190 runs behind but they believed in their aggressive brand of cricket and sculpted a historic win(it's the first time ever India have lost a test at home after taking a 100+ run first innings lead). If India had won this test comfortably it would've put us off from watching the rest of the series so it's great for the series that we've lost. Also a great day for test cricket in general because West Indies also had a huge win against Australia!
