i'd love to hear Swanns' view on how KP would be treated in the current England dressing room as opposed to the oppressive, jealous hateful dressing room he actually found himself in where people like erm, Swann, did everything they could to undermine him, that's one conversation he will never dare to confront

I have mixed feelings about Swann. He was part of the best England Test side of my lifetime (much better than our current one) and a key player in our 2010 T20 World Cup win. On the other hand, he was ,atleast in part , responsible for creating an atmosphere which prematurely curtailed KP's career and left an Ashes tour half way through like a man on The Titanic escaping on a lifeboat. He was useful with the bat and a good slip fielder ,however, I think the introduction of DRS helped his bowling figures, immersibly. I think Tufnell and Panesar (different types of spinners) were as good of not better but didn't have DRS for as the number of games that Swann did and in the case of Tufnell, didn't have it at all.

The non-traditional venues for tests this coming India tour could work in England's favor a little bit. Visakhapatnam is the only one that'll totally decimate England (more due to heat & humidity than the surface itself). They'll enjoy Dharmashala, but it being the last test, they'll probably have arrived there with the series already lost. Rajkot (& probably Ranchi too) are the perfect 'Bazball' favoring pitches .. but Indian batters are gonna make England bowlers pray fervently too. Hyderabad will be slow turn, so with patience, England can work out a draw.
In short, England actually have a good chance to be very competitive .. draw at least one test (hyderabad) .. chance of winning a 'Bazball' game at Rajkot or Ranchi .. Lose badly at Visakhapatnam .. & lose again at Dharmashala, coz frankly, England would just be distracted by the beauty of the Himalayas & will want to relax after a gruelling tour.
The traditional venues would obviously have demolished England losing every test by the third day.

It’s simple players will be better in all dimensions if you have more diverse conditions. Cricket is gonna be more exciting. Have more spin friendly wickets in England. And similarly have more bouncier wickets in India. Now bouncy wickets of India Australia could be very different but it still breeds more variety of
Players and their test skills. The real question why does this English county- board system or the Indian board system doesn’t invest in different varieties of cricket conditions. The real problem is the inability of a quasi government board system in investing in making test product a great profitable product. It’s a management failure, not a format failure if that makes sense

    • @vikikrishna

I think we have good bouncy wickets in India too and that is one of the reasons we have had a steady run of fast bowlers for the last few years (although that seems to be slightly waning now) but we don’t give those pitches for test matches (same reason why England don’t do spinning tracks when sub continent teams travel there).

Axar patel wrecked eng because eng main shot versus spin was spin and his bounce gets them out on it. Picking bowlers like axar against ind is stupid when you know that ind batters wont sweep and instead move up abd down the pitch to counter spin.

this smacks of sending 4 tall bowlers to Aus years ago and getting battered! Just because you have tall bowlers who take wickets in Eng, doens't mean they'll do the same in Inida against batsmen who play spin in their sleep!

I wonder there is always so much talk on Indian pitches, What are your thoughts on Bangladesh pitches where you have to start a test match with spinner, my personal opinion on pitches are India pitches should less spin and England pitches should start to spin. It's a cricket where both types of bowlers should get advantage if they are good at it.

If our batsmen make big scores throughout the series then we have a chance of doing well. Last time we played there in a test series, we only made one big score, and that was in the 1st test match. The rest of the series was a succession of low scores and losing wickets by playing pretty ordinary shots. Still we have a different captain and coach, with a different mindset. I'm optimistic about our chances of at least drawing the series.

@@RaunakthePrayasiansfor me it's the lack of acclimatisation and practice in India that is the reason why we aren't thinking about winning the series, or being able to win the series. We used to play warm up games against very good and competitive teams before test series in Australia, India, South Africa etc. Now we just turn up a week or so before the start of the series, which is daft.
