Personally, Im not a fan of using an oil viscosity other than what the manual recommends, but I like how thorough you went with this video! Looks great
I've recently switched to 0w20 Pennzoil Platinum in my wife's hybrid sense I've learned that the natural gas stuff starts with a cleaner base oil thus allowing the oil to stay cleaner longer. I'm going to be debating if I should go back to the 0w30 during summer sense it can get quite warm here.
Very detailed, exactly what I was looking for, got 2013 sonata hybrid Ltd, wondered where was skid plate, also gonna start using synth (supertech) and wondered about viscosity, filters, good point about 1500 idle rev to recharge, you mpg was 41.3 that's really good if city, I used to get 35 city till change to no ethanol (E0) now 41 city spirited driving, keep at 75 hwy get 47-50mpg, performance much better with E0, gonna start changing oil myself the dealer has been using reg. oil so changing to synth=>MPG, seems like you should have the black and she the blue, thanks God bless.
+Craig Mclaughlin you're welcome, glad i could help. our first decent trip from our house to disney we took the hybrid and we averaged around 44 - 45 mpg with mostly driving around 55 to 60 mph... had a short stint on the highway so thats when it started to drop a little....i think when my wife drives she averages around 37 or 38 with her to and from work drives... whenever i drive it, i see to get the mpg's to start going up... so i can only assume that i am easier on the throttle than she is...
Is the oil level supposed to be midway between the two holes on the dipstick, or is it supposed to be filled until it levels off with the upper hole on the dipstick?
Hello. Does this oil perform well in summer - Mobil 1 Hybrid 0W-20, for my kia optima hybrid 2013 2.4 ? I live in California and it gets pretty hot here in the summer!
For warmer climates I go with a little thicker oil… if you look in the manual the manufacturer actually even suggests to go to a thicker oil when the ambient temp is around 70 degrees I believe
Nice video. I have a question. I bought OEM oil filter for my 2013 kia optima hybrid. Can I use it with Mobil 1 5W-20 Extended Performance Full Synthetic Motor Oil? Thanks
Awesome video...you might have given me the confidence to do my own oil change. Is changing your oil every 5k miles whats recommended? I feel like thats going to come really often for me driving 60+ miles a day. On average how much do the oil changes cost you for the hybrid doing it yourself?
i bought a 10 pack of oil filters, so their end price is about $4 a piece... the oil i would use would be around $22 to $25.... so not too bad to get the good stuff in the car... 5k i dont feel is too much for a hybrid because the engine isnt actually running a good portion of the time...
+Balraj Bains im not aware of a 2.0 hybrid... the 2016 optima LX has a 1.6 turbo option and edmonds got 40mpg out of a tank. if/whenever we decide to trade in my wife's hybrid, I may consider the LX optima with the 1.6 turbo motor
you dont need to but it does squish and crush down so it keeps pressure on the bolt so the bolt doesnt back out... ive heard some people swap it out regularly every other change with no issue.. i just got 10 of them with the 10 oil filter pack i bought on ebay so i dont have a reason to not do it.
+Jon Topham thats a possibility, i guess it would depend on where the oil collected and then dripped off the oil filter mount to see if it would just drip through the hole or onto the splash shield.
So step by step informative and clear. Thank you
Love these kinds of videos!! So step by step. Informative. Thank you

thank you for the kind words also!
Switching to the 0-30 wouldnt be a bad idea I suppose!
Its fun to change ur own oil and filter...
Are you using any ramp extension? For me the bumper is hitting the ramp. So I cannot use it.

I use valvoline dino 5w30 and a wix, 5,000 miles...
Are those Kia Hybrid expensive to fix ? Just wondering.
i never had to fix anything say i cant really say... i guess like anything it would depend on what broke....
I asked a mechanic could he do my oil change he told me since the car is a hybrid he has to wear electric gloves is that true ?????
Danielle Reid you need to go somewhere else if someone is telling you that... but in short no
Do you really need to change the washer?
you dont need to but it does squish and crush down so it keeps pressure on the bolt so the bolt doesnt back out... ive heard some people swap it out regularly every other change with no issue.. i just got 10 of them with the 10 oil filter pack i bought on ebay so i dont have a reason to not do it.
it drips on the plastic because of the ramp... lift would be best

I hate fram oil filters.
