    I've always wondered why we don't see more Andorian, Vulcan, or other Federation world influences in the design of Starfleet vessels. Pretty much all of them have the Earth aesthetic of circular or ovoid primary hull, smaller engineering hull, and nacelles.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      Probably because Starfleet ended up largely standardizing things where most of the designs influence each other and keep the same basic profile and it's only when one steps pretty far away from it that things diverge.
      At the same time, having a relatively similar silhouette makes it easier to identify as ship as a Federation ship

    • @amiscellaneoushuman3516

      one explanation could be that Earth being the least advanced of the founding members meant their ships were more readily compatible with the other species' technology with the aesthetic carry over being a side-effect
      plus the fact that Earth was the only founding member to commit the entirety of its naval resources to the UFP Starfleet, and that humans are at least a plurality of personnel, might have given them a dominant voice in determining the design language of Starfleet

    i can understand Starfleet continuing the warp 10 experiment. even if it couldn't be used safely by organic life a automated ship or probe could map out the entire Galaxy in detail. every system, planet, civilization, shipyard, fleet deployment and resources everywhere would be known in almost real time and multiple high resolution scans.
    even a volunteer pilot would be worth the risk if they could reverse the mutation like the Doctor.

    A thing about Star Trek i always find interesting is the scaling... i mean alot of people express the size of most ships to be like flying continents... when really thats grossly exaggerated except for some Borg ships. Like the one hiding in Jupiter.
    This ship though being only 200 meters in length and clearly is less than 200 meters wide can actually land on any standard running track. As the straights are 100 meters each as well as the corners entire loop is 400 meters.

    This is my take on why the Federation has kept thier agreement on cloaking devices.
    One the federation has the technology to crest them themselves or even better ones. So why not do it. I think because as useful has they seem to be they end up been a weakness.
    Sure you can close to the enemy ships but Federation sensors are superior by far and will be able to detect you up close.
    Usually having coak prevents you from using weapons. Those weapons tend to be less powerful the ship tend to be able to use less warp speed and need maintenance sooner. Because how power draining the cloaking divide really is. All of that has kept the Romulan and Klingon behind the federation

    • @zomfragger
      @zomfragger 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The Klingons soved that issue in the undiscovered country. But since it's original deployment was considered extremely dishonorable the empire never did it again.

      The federation is capable of even more advanced cloaking technology as shown by the phasing cloak in that one TNG episode. Federation cloaks don't just let you become undetectable, but also allow you to literally phase through materials.
      Additionally the Federation is a major technological power, it's better to maintain the treaty of Algeron and just buff the shields and tune the sensors more than it is to have cloaked ships.

    • @TheMrPeteChannel
      @TheMrPeteChannel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Federation keeps saying "we're not a military" so they don't use cloaking devices since it's a pure military device. They also didn't use mines for a while. A pure military device. Everything military thing on a Federation starship haves a dual purpose. Photon Torpedoes are used to clear debris or asteroids. A phaser can just as easily be used as a giant drill.

    This is an awesome ship not just for it's design and capability, but for how it was changed into an entirely different and wholesome role that actually still works with it's capabilities. In a galaxy or universe if there were no rival species, no real enemies, the people afflicted by various strange conditions on there could probably be put on a nice planet and left in peace to either live out their lives or even find a cure in due time, but in this fictional universe there's plenty of jerks who would want to find at least some of these people to learn what they could about the experiments that changed them to try and gleam what they could for their own nefarious purposes, so as unfortunate as it is, the Osler is a perfect vessel to give them some measure of decent safety and hiding from the rest of the galaxy for a time.

    Bloodsports | HFY | A short Sci-Fi Story, posted by SciFi Stories, set on Miayin IV, mentions the Upau Roekvow, who like an ambient temperature of 250°. Maybe related to Tholians? Maybe related to the orange character in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (oompa oompa might be related to Upau Upau). Any data?

    does the treaty aginst cloaked apply to starfleet or the federation? the member states could find a loop hole here?

    • @danielseelye6005
      @danielseelye6005 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The Treaty of Algeron is between the UFP and the Romulan Star Empire so Starfleet and all members of the Federation are held to the cloak ban.
      After the fall of the Empire, there could be a bit of a quagmire regarding the successor state(s) of the Republic and the Imperial Remnant as to who inherits those treaties and obligations, but I think by the time of "Lower Decks" the UFP (and thus Starfleet) could be technically free and clear to develop cloaking tech and deploy it in that open instead of in secret like Pressman did in "The Pegasus."

    • @wendyheatherwood
      @wendyheatherwood 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @danielseelye6005 Lower Decks starts in 2380 and the destruction of Romulus happens in 2387, so at this point in Lower Decks the treaty is still in full effect.
