    I strongly recommend using a torque wrench when torquing anything on a vehicle. I know a lot of folks don't think it's necessary but I started using one on everything and I feel a lot more comfortable knowing that every bolt is tightened to specs. No more guessing if it's over tightened or under tightened! Can save you a lot of time and some serious headaches! Torque specs are 30 ft lbs for the plug and 18 ft lbs for the housing.

      @@cj1608 ...hey, in this case he's right. See my other comment here how most shops overtighten the oil filter housing and then you can't get it off without braking or twisting things. OK...if not using a toque wrench then at least underdtand when tightening...it's finger tight plus maybe only 1/16 turn....not 1/8 or 1/4 turn.

      Did you ever notice that the teeth on your $7 oil filter cap wrench don't engage with the tabs on your oil filter cap? The only reason your wrench works is because the two different oil filter caps made by Toyota have the same dimensions on their tops (14 flutes and 64.5 mm) but The lower portion of the two oil filter caps are different in both diameter and height.
      The wrench you are using likely would fit the 1.8 engine in a Corolla perfectly but all Toyotas 2.0 liters and up with a cartridge filter system use a larger wrench IF you want one with the teeth that engage to the tabs on the oil filter cap. The best ones, however are a lot more that $7 and are made with forged aluminum instead of cast aluminum.
      The Motivx brand can be seen at the following link. This shows both wrenches but they are available individually...
      www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools-Filter-Wrench-Vehicles/dp/B078RHZP9M/ref=pd_di_sccai_30?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B078RHZP9M&pd_rd_r=9525c3ae-578f-403f-b032-93d2f0e507cf&pd_rd_w=DMCK6&pd_rd_wg=0k19M&pf_rd_p=61ce50cf-2379-4458-9044-fa8b402c702d&pf_rd_r=W4ETP73NX1Z3KMSR467S&psc=1&refRID=W4ETP73NX1Z3KMSR467S

      No. I am not promoting for them but I watch every Toyota oil change video I come across and I have bought two different wrenches that claimed they worked for models that they did not work for and even the associates in the parts stores did not realize it. Also I've read all the reviews on Amazon for many of the oil filter caps available and believe me, Motivx has the best reviews and the least number of complaints.
      Just check how the cut outs on your wrench next time you change your oil. It's plain to see that they don't latch onto anything on your oil filter cap and provide no benefit. Sorry, I'm really not a troll and I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I just know from experience and from purchasing two wrenches that did not work right for me personally and I had to return them. There are others on Amazon that look like they would at least fit right and they are less expensive than Motivx but the reviews are not as good. I did buy one possibly like the one you have for our son who has a Toyota Matrix with the 1.8 engine. Some of these companies think all four cylinder engines take the same wrench and they have their products listed that way but they are wrong. We have a four cylinder 2009 RAV4 and it takes the same wrench as our daughter's Sienna with a V6. The wrench that fits our son's Matrix will also work but the cut outs on the wrench do not mesh with the tabs on the RAV4's oil filter cap.

    Shouldn’t you clean the filter housing of all the old oil and any dirt or contaminates before installing the new filter? Also shouldn’t you fill the filter and housing with fresh oil before installing it? We always filled the spin on filters with oil before installing them. Just curious

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Simon I do regular oil changes religiously so oil is always clean so no need to clean anymore out of the housing. And it’s too messy to try and fill any oil in the housing before putting it on, not this car but other Toyota/Lexus that have horizontal housings. Most I do is lube the gasket.

    You can skip the center-plate removal....saves time and (another) o-ring issue.....just take the whole cannister off but wear gloves, you will splash more lube....pretty much what you would encounter for an old-style spin-on filter, anyways. You'll get wet either way...this saves a step. ANOTHER THING....NO !.....CAUTION !!!..... DO not use the 3/8 drive to LOOSEN the main cannister.....use the 27 mm hex that surrounds the center hole.....the 3/8" drive is to be used ONLY to tighten. Why?...on previous oil changes, most shops OVERTIGHTEN the cannister, and using the 3/8 drive TO LOOSEN, can BREAK the oil-tool-cap, or STRIP OUT the 3/8 drive. When tightening, only tighten finger tight and then maybe another "Smidge", like 1/16 turn....NOT 1/4 turn or more like most shops do....that will be over-tight and cause these later problems.

Impossible to read until it sits for a while. OMG I bought one of those new boxes of Mobil 1. Unbeknownst to me, the oil is in a bag. There is no way to measure how much is going in. I way overfilled it, had to drain it. Very expensive CF. Been changing oil for 30 years and this was the worst. I'm sure the day is coming when all oil will be sold like this.
