what makes you say he is excited and enthusiastic? He literally says "I'm trying to warn people about the most dangerous possibilities in the hope that we do things in the present to prevent them from happening." I think a lot of people seem unable to differentiate between a person warning "this is coming", and a person saying "I want this to come" - seems a clear case of shooting the messenger. If it weren't for Yuval we would have no idea what is coming and once we did, it would be too late, at least now we have a chance to stop it

1. If a corporation gets one’s data: the data should be used to help the person and not to manipulate the person.
2. Whenever you increase surveillance of individuals you should simultaneously increase surveillance of the corporation, and governments and people at the top.
3. Never allow all the data to be concentrated in one place. That’s the recipe for a dictatorship.
Astute observation, this is exactly what is happening now.

1. Corporations shouldn't be able to get one's data under any circumstances except by an individual's consent, much less decide how data should be used to "help" an individual (and who decides what kind of help is needed and for which individuals?). Many groups with power do not necessarily set out to manipulate, that happens as a matter of course as they try to "help" the less powerful who fail to understand 'the problem' and accept the help being offered by the group.
2. A corporation or government cannot be realistically relied upon to police itself or do so in a truely effective, wholestic manner that would put The People's interests before its own.
3. While centralizing where data is held or by whom can be a form of dictatorship, to be sure, it also gives those rebelling against tyranny a definite weakspot to target.

One of the biggest issues I have with AI, before we even think about who is regulating what it is doing, how about we look at who is regulating the data that is being fed into it to teach it in the first place....

The way I’ve looked at Elon musk recently is, after spending the last week and a half figuring out all of this, Elon musk is the last big tech guy to keep a hold of some of his humanity he has left. We need more Elon musks and less of guys like this.
The #1 principle to govern any personal data (especially biometric data) collection by any entity whether it be corporations or governments should be that you should get the EXPLICIT not IMPLICIT OPT IN from the individual whose data you are collecting. And it is not enough to provide an ability to Opt Out, it should be an explicit action of Opting In. Governments who respect human rights and privacy should step in and fight for this. It reminds me of the Office episode where Dwight sets up this software that acknowledges any kind of mistake and when they’ve had 5 mistakes it alerts the boss by sending an email about all the bad things the employees said about him. Really reminds me of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. Written in 1931 but I’ve always thought it was a relatively accurate portrayal (excluding the various anachronisms and antiquated science in it) of where humanity could end up.
Big Brother (from 1984) might be less of a threat than our drive for pleasure and technology (Brave New World).

We don't know if we can create consciouss beings from machines. Heck, we don't even know what consciousness is, really.
(a) it doesn't matter if they are "conscious" - if a powerful machine is able to make decisions, it could very likely destroy or degrade humans via naturally selection (b) if humans can get competitive advantage via genetic modification or biotech augmentation, well it's obvious how that will be abused just like nationality, race, gender, etc.

Bruh… I consume content on this subject all the time (some even for school) and I’m so mad at myself for it only just this moment hitting me that super intelligent AI has no reason, need, evolutionary pressure to develop consciousness.
I admit… I always thought it might, or would.
For humans, consciousness was literally a no-brainer. Most animals have evolved a feedback system of differing levels of what we call consciousness or awareness which actually helps us stay alive and undamaged. For us it’s helped us develop our theory of mind and etc.
My mistake was forgetting that AI may not have any of the evolutionary pressures which impacted on us over the eons.
I guess I also assumed we’d try to program that in, but the neatest path is likely super intelligent AI with no need for pleasure or pain feedback.

If humans create a machine that is programmed to mimic human emotions to such a degree that no person can tell a difference between that machine and a real human, isnt that a consciouss being then ? It sounds good but it's not true. Netflix provides a menu. You choose from it or go to aother restaurant. It's just one small example of his technique. 'Infotainment' is a good description of his books. Best not to take them too seriously.
But george, the menu that Netflix provides you is probably not the menu that Netflix provides me.
