  • Clinical Nurse Specialists Fiona Mutch and Beth Westaway share what a Clinical Nurse Specialist does and how to become a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Their nurse-led clinics include comprehensive physical assessments, health education and health promotion, and life-saving follow up advice and treatments. Fiona and Beth explain other aspects of their Clinical Nurse Specialist role, such as running telephone clinics and collaborating with multi-disciplinary team members.
Beth and Fiona lead a nurse-led outreach programme that provides free health checks for men. This programme aims to improve early diagnosis of prostate cancer and other urological cancers. Clinics are held on a van by Clinical Nurse Specialists who visit harder to reach communities across London. If you would like to know more about their work check out the video link below:

Hi everyone. How are you all? I wanted to speak to you guys and seek advice re being a clinical nurse specialist. I'm currently working as an Band -5 Occupational Health Nurse at Barts NHS Trust. I've been working there for three years and I want to start an new path beyond OH. I'm thinking of Tissue Viability (as i have previous experience in Community three years ago) and Infection Prevention Control Nurse as we are dealing with viruses and vaccinations. I'd like to pick your brains re those two and if you have any other advice for me moving forward past being an OH nurse. Many Thanks.

Thanks for your message. If you DM me on Twitter or instagram I can put you in touch with Fiona and Beth to help advise @imonewiththeforce316 I would suggest you also talk to infection control or tissue viability nurses about these roles too. There will be post-reg specialist courses linked to those roles too. I hope that helps. 😊
