Just found out in my case at least the forscan is requiring a extended license to run the program. I’ve just registered thru forscan and it will be 24 to 48 hours before my account is approved. Then once it’s approved I can download the temporary key to make the changes. This is really important that everyone should know.
I've watched several of these install videos of the brake controller and no one says anything about having to install a fuse in the fuse panel to supply power to the controller. You should have to fuse the power to the controller. So check the fuse panel to make sure there is a fuse in the proper slot for thew brakes.
Marti Reever that is probably because you don’t need to add a fuse to power the controller? Maybe on a lower trim truck maybe but all I needed to do was plug it in an turn it on with forscan.
@@OutOfLineGarage I just purchased the controller from the Ford dealer and it came with a fuse and the mechanic said it needs put into slot 24 in panel. I have a Lariat level truck with everything except brake controller. I haven't installed yet , just giving heads up.
Added note I'm Having trouble getting the license folder to open for ForScan so I can open ForScan and program my ECM. Any help would be accepted. Thank You.
The dealer was going to install a brake controller on my 2020 STX, and figured out that it didn't have the 14 pin connector that is required. It seemed odd, because it does have the trailer backup assist
Good afternoon Blessings question does the raptor 2014 have a trailer brake question can you install trailer assistant on the for f150 raptor 2014 or not
Great video. I just ordered the controller for my 2016 XLT. Question, did you need to purchase the extended license for FORScan or did the free version work?
You need the extended version to write anything to the truck. In this case you have to write the registers that turn the trailer brake on, so yes you need the extended license. The cost of it also goes to support the few people that develop forscan, it is not a ford produced software.
Hard to follow you clicking around in forscan “just click this and click that” unless I missed it, you didn’t tell how to write the changes after you made them.
Hi there, I recently brought used 2016 Ford F-150 XL without Cruise control. Can we also add and enable cruise control if I add oem steering wheel with cruise control?
I did all this on my 2020 f150 yesterday but I don't know if it worked. Nothing appears in the 8" cluster when I press buttons on the controller. Maybe a trailer needs to be connected so that the controller activates? Also, I only saw the "Trailer Control Module" option in forscan, I didn't see any "gain controller"
Mr Pabs I would make sure it’s plugged in and then try and reprogram it again. Idk what else to tell you if that doesn’t work. Might have to take it to the dealership.
@@OutOfLineGarage I figured it out!! Forscan deleted gain settings on the new version by mistake. I installed previous version 2.3.33 and bam!! It works now...
I got a 2017 XLT but only has the 4 pin connector, if I do this would I need an OEM wiring harness for the 7 pin connector to have power going to it or can I just use an aftermarket 4 to 7 pin adapter?? I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question lol
I have a 2017 XLT as well. I did all the same stuff that you did. My dashboard still shows no trailer connection. 4 pin to seven pin as well. The controller works on the dashboard. Every time I move the switch to the right it gives me a warning, no trailer connected. Did I need a different ELM or do I need a fuse?
Just finished this on my 2018. Do you have gain control? I have noticed other videos where they can control the gain. My does the same as yours and just reads that the trailer is disconnected.
I popped out the bottom with the 7mm screw. Then pulled up on the bottom of the molding. Took me 5 mins to install 😂.

Yea I believe the temporary key last for like 6 months, if you need to change anything after that you will just have to get another temporary key.

We’re you able to use the free version? Thanks!

I'm doing that later this week. I'm going to miss that slot, I kept extra dollar bills in there for the drive thru's.
Lol I'm doing mine this today and yes I'm going to miss that pocket too that is were all my business cards and credit card went
Does yours work when you hit the foot brake when pulling a trailer
I have the same interior display as you, do you know what model of SYNC (SYNC 1,2 or 3) this truck has?

Honestly I don’t know. I would ask on some of the F150 groups. I know the XL’s have different wiring harnesses.
Where are you located?

You have to get the extended license right ?
Did you buy this brake trailer controller from the Ford dealer?
Nope I got it from the link in the description.
Does your dashboard work when you press it without the trailer plugged in
You talking about the gain? If so they yes, it gives a “trailer disconnected” notification.
Same issue for me
Did you get the extended license? I cant get in
It saids i have to have an extended license

Jesus Christ you’re pulling up on that top tray like you don’t give a damn about the 2 bolts at the back.

Yes it does, a trailer has to be attached for it to work though. I was towing earlier today and had the controls working.
Oops i'm replying from my personal channel btw. lol
Thanks, looks like I am all set up
WHAT IF YOU HAVE A CENTER CONSOLE
It’s the same thing
Drinking game. Take a shot every time he says pops. lol
🤣 shot, shot, shot!!🥃
So frustrating. Can't get Forscan to work and Ford said $450 to install.
I would go on facebook and there is a group page that is for the fore scan program and they will more then likely help you out with this issue .
@@williamthompson5606 thank you!
Your very welcome.
Ford told me that only FORD can do this. Quoted $125 to program for me.
Program it yourself with Forscan. It takes 10 min and costs a $20 adaptor.
@@OutOfLineGarage ok. I’ll try again. Tried to do it, but nothing came on. Truck was off though. Hmm....
I was quoted $500 + tax to get this done...lol
Thats what I paid recently. 2019 F150 XLT
