    I have a 2019 F150, XTR 2.7L, basic tow package w/out trailer assist. I just used this video to install an amazon OEM controller $169: Had some trouble shooting issues:
    #1: the latest OBD2 was not recommended by the forscan software for this vehicle. However, it still worked, even though it couldn't read certain things. Make sure you install the latest drivers ( I had to do it twice) and run forscan a few times to get it to find my vehicle. Including restarting the computer a few times.
    #2: Make sure to enable ALL THREE trailer options in the IPC. THIS INCLUDES the "trailer brake module"
    #3 after "writing" to the PCM, it looked like my dash and gauges had a 10 second seizure. if you get a trailer "FAULT" screen after updating: check the fuse box for power to the brake controller and ensure you have a 30A fuse in slot 24. Some posts I read said to disconnect the battery for 20 minutes, obviously this wont work if you don't have a fuse in the correct slot.

      I have a 2019 f150 STX and just did this mod. Your #2 and #3 comments saved me tons of troubleshooting. Thank you! For others, I used the fuse which was in the slot for the power rear window (since mine doesn’t have that option).

      sure enough i had to do all of your steps. EXCEPT. slod 24 did not work, said FAULT. after i pulled up my 2016 XLT v8 manual, the trailer break fuse slot was slot 49. As soon i swapped the 30A fuse from slot 24 to 49 it registered perfect. Thanks for your tips.

    Very helpful video! What I encountered and what eventually fixed it - When I installed my brake controller from Levittown Ford Parts, I had enabled services for all 3. I then had the brake module fault error. After searching for this error, found that most commonly associated with fuse. The fuse was missing, so I added the 30 amp fuse. No more fault, yet I wasn't able to adjust the gain even with the trailer attached. I reconnected my pc to the car computer and the brake module had been disabled! Maybe because of the fault error? I enabled it again and it works! Thanks again for your very informative and helpful video!

    Just installed a brake controller on 2017 f150 and now there are no lights at all when we hook to our camper. Had lights before installing the brake control. What fuses should we be checking or anything else we should check?

  • @lyleb4399

    2016 F-150. Went through the install and enable process, but no luck. Subsequently realized 30A fuse in engine compartment was blown. Now I'm having another issue. I've begun experiencing a parasitic draw since installation. Based on my 'debugging' procedure, it appears that I'm dropping voltage across (cabin) fuses 12 and 13 which are for 'Climate head module, smart datalink converter, cluster, and SCCM'. Still need to verify, but my question is whether anybody else has commented on or run across anything similar? Wondering if it's a hardware thing, or possibly something to do with the forscan setup. Haven't been able to find anything elsewhere, so this is a bit of a 'shot in the dark'. Good vid. Thanks.

    • @ShealeysGarage
      @ShealeysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry your having issues with your install. Your issue with the parasitic draw is the first I’ve heard of. When it comes to that, the only thing I can think of is a grounding issue. Do you have any additional electrical modifications or installs done that you can go back and verify your grounding points?
      So if Forscan not working at all when you connect it to your vehicle?

    • @lyleb4399

      @@ShealeysGarage I haven't hooked it back up. Can Forscan help debug this? Would it throw some sort of code? My extended license expired, but I'd pay for it if it could help with this problem. Getting ready to pull face off center stack and see if anything looks amiss. Thanks.

    • @ShealeysGarage
      @ShealeysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you license is expired, I do not think FORSCAN will work for you, because it will not allow you to enter the configuration module. However, I do not think that FORSCAN will assist or is part of your parasitic draw that you have been having. It sounds like a wiring issue to me, but that is just my guess.

      Ensure you are using the same OBD2 adapter that I have in the video ELM 327. Likewise this adapter should have the MS and HS switch. If it doesn't then you need to purchase one that does. If you have all of the above, then you need to ensure you have the most up to date drivers for your OBD2 adapter. There should be an info card that came with your adapter to update drivers.

      1.) Verify you have the latest Forscan software drivers installed.

    So..I have a 2019 f150. I bought an oem controller, hooked it all up. And for the heck of it I was driving and squeezed it and it works.? Didn’t take it to the dealer to get activated yet. However, on the checklist screen the module does not show up as if it’s not there. Strange. The gain setting on the module even adjusts. Any explanation? Haha not sure if I should talk to the dealer

    • @ShealeysGarage
      @ShealeysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because your truck was already wired for the trailer brake controller, the ECU still receives a signal from the brake controller when you hit a button, even though the trailer brake modules were never turned on or "activated". Likewise, because the modules were never activated, you won't see the total indications on the dash that it is installed.

    • @danielmsignorini

      @@ShealeysGarage that you for the explanation! I was caught off guard because everywhere I read, it says it will not work. • @ShealeysGarage

      As far as safety goes…I would say it’s unsafe because you aren’t 100% sure of the settings and whether or not the controller is remembering your previous setting as intended while in use. Or if the controller will function correctly in an aggressive brake application.
      Personally (purely my advice) I would download For-Scan and enable the modules yourself or pay the extra money and have the dealer do it. You’ll then have piece of mind that the brake controller will work as advertised. You took the time to complete 75% of the install, why not finish the last little bit.🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @ShealeysGarage

      I know some people mentioned fuses causing issues, but that was for the truck not recognizing the brake controller after it was installed. Your truck seems like it obviously recognizes the controller because it works when you slide the bar…but not the auto gain setting. I would try to isolate the problem, get another trailer with a functioning trailer brake to see if the issue is the truck or trailer. 🤷🏽‍♂️ If the same thing occurs with the other trailer then you’ll know it’s a truck issue.

      It depends on your load and how you want the trailer to react. The higher the gain setting = the more reactive and aggressive your trailer brakes will respond to you applying the brake while driving. Visa versa with lowering the gain setting. Once your load or trailer is attached, go to a low speed around 25 mph and apply the brakes in a gradual manner to come to a full stop as you normally would…at whatever setting and test which works best for your application. (If you notice the trailer brakes are grabbing to harsh and the tires are starting to lock up, lessen your gain setting.

    I did this upgrade a while back and just recently purchased a travel trailer. With the travel trailer, I haven’t been able to use the electric power jack or use the slide while hooked up to the truck. Would this be an issue with the truck or the trailer? I saw I have some extra harness in my truck that looks like it might plug into the trailer brake but I don’t really know what it does. Any ideas?

      Those capabilities aren’t provided by the trucks OEM trailer brake controller. That sounds like you have a high-speed trailer that does more than your conventional. I know we rented a trailer with a slide and jack but those controls were on the trailer separate from the trailer brake itself. Our trailer had its own battery that powered those.
