    Best review I've seen yet on this bag.

    Bought mine and really like it. I've hooked a ton of pouches onto it and bought some cool patches, wish there was more patch space but oh well. I've got it almost all set up, not sure about the last of the space I have. Keeping it light and trying not to include expensive items in case of theft, don't want to lose a hundred dollar flashlight and a hundred dollar leatherman and a five hundred dollar camera. I'll probably put the camera in there, though, it's one of the reasons I bought it and one of my tablets. My buddy loves it and took all the info to buy it. I got brown which makes it hard to see inside, the price I was willing to pay for a color to be different than the norm. thx for the great review, you sold me.

    Great review, you nailed this bag. I've had my gearslinger for over a year and love it on looong day hikes. The best part is that I'm able to access my pistol with a simple sling forward movement.

    He said one of the flaws was it only had one bottle holder. That's not a flaw, it's a preference. Plus, you can keep a second water bottle under the crossed shock cord, that's what i did the other day. He didn't tighten the shoulder straps on his, so it was loose, as i stated in the video if you tighten it and use the cross strap, there's no way it's ever falling off. I jogged with it on, and it was perfect :)

    That's an excellent review! I don't think anyone else on youtube even mentioned the whistle. As far as the paracord keeper is concerned, I saw a video by RoscoeBa that covered this, in which she used different coloured strings to make it less confusing. Basically, you secured the main compartment only, but those two small loops on the other side can also be used to secure both the front pockets as well, simultaneously.

  • @alan30189
    @alan30189 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice bag and great review. I don't like the way the main compartment doesn't unzip all the way so you can lay the bag out flat on both sides for ease of packing. I understand they want to control if from flopping open when you open it in front of you while carrying it, but there are other ways of doing that, with adjustable shock cords, etc.

  • @sherman614
    @sherman614  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, I am right handed. Now, technically the S-Type was mad for left handed people. Their thinking is that if you're left handed, you'll be more comfortable grabbing the bottom grab handle and "slinging" the pack to your front side. And for most people, that is right., but for me for some reason I'm right handed yet feel more comfortable slinging this pack to my front side using my left hand. You'll have to think about which you might light more.

    I have actually never owned a 5.11 bag, so I really cant say either way. I know they are made very well, and if they make a pack that suits YOUR needs better than any Maxpedition bag, than go for it. If you have a Maxpedition pack and a 5.11 pack in mind and you like them both equally, I'd always choose Maxpedition. Simply for their quality and attention to detail.

      ANY REASON YOU CANT WEAR THIS TO THE FRONT...ALWAYS? DOES IT HURT

    • @sherman614
      @sherman614  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BOOSTEDLASER You COULD, but it would get in the way and if you had any significant weight in it, it would pull on you and possibly hurt your back.

    I have had experience with the Falcon II, I own the slightly smaller version, the Pygmy Falcon II. I use it as my bug out bag. It depends on how much you want to carry, if you just want it for every day carry, carrying less than 10lb's of gear, than I think the Sitka is right for you. The Falcon II is much bigger, and is made for comfort when carrying 15+ pounds of gear. :)

  • @sherman614
    @sherman614  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is very comfortable up to about 10lbs, anything more and I'd look into the Pygmy Falcon II, slightly bigger, and has two shoulder straps. It is very strong, and the nylon is abrasion resistant.

  • @sherman614
    @sherman614  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, it's a great pack! I think the Y strap would hold it, but I'm not 100% on that, depends on how heavy it it. Cause I know my Falcon II's Y strap can hold a sleeping pad, and it's very similar to the one on the Sitka. Thank you for the sub!

    My honest opinion of this bag is that I can and mostly only carry it by hand. It is too small for all but the lightest essentials. I used it for work and as an admin bag it's perfect. As an EDC meant to carry medical supplies ... this is not for you. If you plan on hiking with it, it's a day hike only. Max weight 10lbs only. if you use the bladder compartment the back will blow out the back support and make it rounded. It's a very amazing beautiful bag that really doesn't do anything very well.

  • @hathiphnath

  • @sherman614
    @sherman614  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    As I said in the video, I walked around with it in the woods with about 10lb's of gear inside comfortably for a few hours. I carried it to Blade show with me for a few hours with just some simple EDC gear inside, and it was very comfortable. Now owning the Pygmy Falcon II, I can say that I prefer having 2 shoulder straps for long carry time, for loads over 10lb's. If you're just carrying some extra things with you, I say Sitka. If you want a bail out or camping bag, I say a pack with 2 straps.

      CAN YOU WEAR IT ON THE FRONT LIKE A HILL PEOPLE GEAR KIT BAG?(FULL TIME) ALSO DOES THE STRAP DIG INTO THE TRAPS/NECK AND HURT?

  • @iReturnV1deotapes
    @iReturnV1deotapes 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you by chance know how 5.11 holds up against Maxpedition? I keep on hearing that Maxpedition is bombproof and will last the rest of your life and that's something I value immensely, but I find that they lack the sheer organization that 5.11 puts into their sling packs.
    Often Maxpedition doesn't have the amount of internal storage and organization options that 5.11 does, is not as modular as 5.11 is (the tier system that allows 5.11 bags to clip onto bigger bags is amazing and can allow me to clip an edc bag onto a bug out bag with ease), often comes with pre-installed water bottle pockets on the side which prevents you from attaching your own preferred holders, and has sling straps that cater to a specific side unlike the 5.11s have ambidextrous straps that allow you to put it on any way you wish.
    I'm on the fence right now about which to buy. Everything is pointing towards a MOAB 10, but I don't want my bag ever failing me when I might need it. The only thing I love about Maxpedition is the alleged durability.

    Nice reivew while I have a question about side straps against the water bottle side. In your video there are 6 straps but I usually only see 3 straps in other reviews even the official site pictures. So you did it by yourself or it's a different version?

  • @hathiphnath
    @hathiphnath 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, one more quick question. That webbing on the lower strap part... will it accept one Single Sheath or two? I'm thinking... one shorter for multitool, then one longer for flashlight. I don't own the bag yet. Thinking of configurations. If that's a dumb idea, I'd appreciate the feedback =)
