The Perfect Day Hike Backpack: Maxpedition Sitka S-Type Gearslinger

- The Maxpedition Sitka Gearslinger is a well-designed and perfectly sized backpack. It's tough, it's durable, it's functional. I use the Sitka for hiking through the woods but it works equally well as an EDC bag.
This bag was given to me by the German Maxpedition distributor www.maxpedition.de.

I love the no nonsense explanation of the product. Much appreciated.
Thank you!
Dozens of reviews of this gear already on TH-cam and yours is the best! Brilliantly clear photography, shows use...AND we get to see load out. Hope Max.de keeps sending you gear for review, Stefan!
The best review I've seen. Clear, concise, and to the point. Thank you for showing how to secure the para-cord pulls and the pack-out at the end. Vielen dank!
Very useful and detailed review. Are you now officially endorsed by Maxpedition? After all those nice reviews you sure have earned it. Well done, keep it up.
Excellent review! You put effort and care into this video and you don't see that too often anymore. Very well thought out. Definitely deserves more views than that.
i have been using the sitka over a year now and love it, but recently i have been considering the kodiak since it is a little bigger, i have carried this pack loaded with over 12 pounds of gear all day long with no problems at all including a 100 oz camelbak
Very excellent video ! The size dimensions are very helpful and great job on demonstrating all of the bags options. Great security tips also!
Excellant review as always Stefan. It's SO good to see you back on TH-cam again. It's great that you reviewed this pack. I've been looking for a day pack to take with me on my upcomming vacation. I'll be going on a couple of day excursions to Myan ruins, and this pack looks ideal for my needs. Maxpedition certainly chose well to send their products to you. Your reviews are always informative and show how the products can be used in 'Real Life'. Thanks!!
I subbed for the excellent quality and content of this review. I'll definitely be checking out your channel when looking for gear reviews in the future. Good stuff, keep it up!
I have had this gearslinger as my EDC bag for nearly a year now and I honestly did not know about the hidden whistle! Love the zombie hunter patch! Outstanding job on breaking down the features of this bag. Great work, dude.
Very detailed review just what I was looking for. Thanks!
Excellent job Sir!
One of the best reviews ever!!!!!!
Excellent review. Finally someone shows how the bag fits on a body & not just on a table. I've been using a Columbia sling pack which is larger but doesn't have the organization capabilities of this pack. Your review has sold me, I'll be looking on getting this one after the new year.
A fantastic review! Thank you! You do an excellent job.
Thank you!
Another excellent review, Maxpedition make really outstanding gear.
Good job Stefan.
Outstanding review! Very high-quality and detailed review.
Outstanding review! very comprehensive. Well done.👍
Thank you!
Super detailed review. Keep up this uP!
I have one and really like it. I use it for everyday carry and it fits my laptop just fine. I also use it for traveling as a carry on. Thanks for posting this!
As always, very interesting & informative. Looking forward to more knife reviews too. Great job!
This was a very good video. I liked the arrangement of how the review progressed and the editing.
I'm glad you enjoy the Sitka.
what an excellent review. good job.
Your reviews make me want to spend all my money thanks!
Great review, Stefan. I have always wanted a Sitka! Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your reviews of the Maxpedition line. If I am looking for a new pack or pouch, I check your channel first. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@903lew Thank you for your kind words! - If the overall weight of the pack is less than 10 pounds the one-strap design works pretty well. If I need to carry more I also go for a traditional backpack with two shoulder straps.
Again a very nice Review, thank you for that. I like the Maxpedition Sitka Gearslinger, it´s a very nice and useful Bag.
Good product review. Nice to see an adult reviewing pack. Very informative!
Thanks for watching!
Cheers ! Great review, just what I was looking for
I'm getting one 100%
Awesome review.
Very well done sir.
I'm glad my review was helpful to you.
Awesome review! Getting the foliage green after this video! Thanks
As always, another excellent review. Learning a lot of tips on which model of Maxpedition bags would best suit me. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic review. Thank you.
Great review, very honest. I subscribed after watching this video.
Thank you! But please note that I don't do Maxpedition reviews anymore.
nice review! well done!
Great review
Damn fine review. Thank you, from the USA.
Great review! Thanks
Just an Awesome Video! have been looking for the "Perfect" EDC bag, and you now what, this is it ;) Thx for the help my friend!
Quick tip for Sitka owners: the loop Stefan slips the drinking tube through (5:10) is actually meant to be pushed back into the compartment to hang your water bladder from. Also, I did not have luck with a 100oz CamelBak reservoir in the Sitka. Probably best to stick to the 70oz CamelBak or possibly a wider 100oz model (it's the length that's the problem).
Great Vid. I have the sabrecat coming this week can't wait. Take care from ! England
Thanks for another great review. I just got a Sitka last week to carry to work. It's a great bag if you don't try to over load it.
Excellent review ! I love it ! The Sitka it's very god bag. Thanks :)
Annother excellent detailed review. I was wondering why anyone would go for this type of rig over the usual two shouder strap design. Your video showed the reasons for the design very well. Thanks Stefan
outstanding review Stefan!!!! i must get a Maxpedition backpack one of these days my old but trusty Wenger backpack needs a brake!!!
Yeah! New Video!
This is my bag!
Cool concept.
Great, thought trough review! I own one in (full) foliage and I love it, it's my fave Maxpedition pack: just the right size and a load of neat features! It's a bit heavy though, but I guess that's the price you pay for the rugged materials. I love the "anti-theft"-feature!
Thank you for your kind words!
Hi,
After watching you review of the Maxpedition Sitka S-Type i was sold, i just order one for my self too in the US so i have to wait a few weeks to get it.
Very good review my friend and thank you!!
Greetings from Holland.
i got a smith & wesson lite force tactical pack that looks just like this and i love it, ofcourse not of equal quality as maxpedition but i was on a budget
My android just woke me up to tell me you posted another video....it was worth it :)
Great review. Now I just have to decide if I will buy the Sitka or the Kodiak. Your reviews are very well made. Cheers and thanks.
great review
and actually, got me to buy a sitka gearslinger, and i am very pleased so far. Looking for a pouch or pocket to attach to my bag, maybe janus.
Good Review 👍
excellent review thank you very much
damn youtube
i first started out collecting knifes and now its : flashlights, knifes, maxpedition bags, etc etc etc etc
Thank you, very informative.
@nextexhale I'm glad you enjoyed the arrangement of the video because I always put a lot of thought in the structure of my reviews. Plus I write an audio script before I start recording my videos.
Great review as always, I want to say danke for being back posting videos. I've missed your professionalism, excellent production values, un"tactical" style and teutonic j'ne sais quoi.
I can't really say I'm a fan of this pack. When it comes to backpacks I'm a traditionalist - two shoulder straps or I just don't find it comfortable. With just your EDC, water, some food, a camera, a sweater and rain gear one strap can be just too uncomfortable. Then again, I have skinny shoulders. ^^
@maczuka I use the smaller Lunada for short hikes and the larger Falcon II when I need to carry more camera gear.
Stefan, great review! After all this time (3+ years) how do you feel about the way this bag carries? Does it hurt you shoulder, neck, back due to the single strap? What is the maximum weight you can carry comfortably for say 2-3 hours? I really like this bag but am fearful of being uncomfortable carrying it.
Thank you!
@1OkiePackRat Thank you so much for your very kind words, Kris!
Stefan I love your reviews and I was wondering if you have reviewed the Maxpedition Falcon 2 backpack? I searched your channel and although you have mentioned it I can't seem to find a review. Keep up the great work, many thanks from Canada!
@Mrhumantiger The water bladder is a Source Widepac Reservoir (2 liters). As far as I know, they don't sell a shower tube for their system.
@THEDUCKHUNTER1976 Thanks for letting me know. I'm glad you like it.
@SugarcreekForge Thanks for watching! I'm looking forward to your next video on your homemade grinder project.
@RODTELLO Yes, you can, both side release buckles are the same size. - It depends on your size. On a small person the shoulder strap plus Janus is too bulky.
Great review again! I love Maxpedition. Though, I have a Magala and my experience is that the one shoulder strap Gearslingers get uncomfortable when packed heavy. So I am on the look out for a Falcon-II now.
hello stefan, can you fit a clear folder in there with a height of 14" and 10" in length? i'm not sure with the dimensions but you said the main compartment sits about 8inches wide right? so i just think it can still fit a 10" wide folders placing it on the opposite side of the one you measured as 8 inch wide right?
@stschmalhaus I will keep working on it. The nice thing about showing it to friends on TH-cam is that it keeps me motivated to keep working on it! I love your channel - very informative and you have a great communication style.
how could i add on the bottom knife holder if both are stabil tailored ?
Excellent and articulate review. This actually made me want this exact pack or the Kodiak (since I have 17” laptops), color and strap designation, but with being in the states and the S-type being discontinued there’s pretty much no possibility of acquiring one. But if you still have this one or know anyone that would like to sell, let me know! 😂
Thank you! Yes, I still have it and I still use it. But even if I was willing to sell it, the shipping costs from Germany to the US would make it unreasonably expensive for you.
@mrmonkeyman50 Thank you, MMM50! I had to upgrade my lighting setup for this rather large item.
i mean the side with 2 slip pockets... can i place my folders in there ? with the height of 14" and 10" wide?
@RODTELLO I don't know your EDC contents so I can hardly give you any advice. I don't use the gearslingers as EDC bags at all, I only use them for hiking. My favorite EDC bag is the Maxpedition Jumbo.
What alternatives are there? maybe a size comparison on smaller or bigger brother? I'm only discovering maxpedition and am curious if you have experience with other dayhike bags, thanks for a fantastic review!!! love this :))
You mentioned you have a Falcon II, do you prefer the Sitka now because im trying to decide which one to get, the Falcon can carry more but the Sitka looks like it would make a good EDC bag, did you use your Falcon for EDC?
@sweetdaddyroses Wow! Thank you for your very kind words!
@jamm1eify Both, the Sitka and the Falcon II, are too large for my EDC needs. I use them for hiking trips. My EDC bags are the NeatFreak and the Jumbo.
@spleen1666 Thank you! There are quite a few reviews of the Sitka that show how it looks on a person.
Gern geschehen! ;-)
I gave up on mine after 6 months of trying to get on with it. It's just too small. It's basically the male equivalent of a handbag.
Anything over a kilo and the strap is majorly uncomfortable, using the second strap makes it ride up and carry in a weird position no matter how loose or tight you make either strap.
I cant fault the workmanship but it's just not a practical pack for very much at all.
I even lost 2 Nalgene bottles which broke when they fell out of the dedicated pocket while cinched up.
If you want a more versatile and comfortable pack, I'd recommend the Direct Action Dust, but I suppose it's horses for courses and personal opinion.
I couldnt get on with it at all, and I really tried.
@TheLazySpoiledKitty Thank you, Casper!
@bluzoneone Thanks for watching!
@RODTELLO I took the measurements from Maxpedition's website.
@darrensylvander Thank you for your kind words!
@Studio213 Thank you!
@TheLateBoyScout Thank you! - Sure, go ahead!
@AussieMark909 Thank you, Mark!
@mdubre13 Thank you! I hear you. There will be new knife reviews in the future.
@aebbelwoy We will see. For a start, they provided me with two bags (the Sitka and another bag that I will be reviewing soon).
@Gunsfromholland Hi neighbour! ;-) Thanks for watching! I'm sure you won't be disappointed by the Sitka.
so im right handed, do i get the s type or the other?
