    Swan Lake, and this theme in particular, carries a lot of very special, personal connotations for me, and I must confess that I got teary-eyed listening to your mockup. Thank you very much for your work. I think that you did this library more than justice, being able to evoke such emotions in someone.

    Just as a matter of interest, one of the times I performed this as a member of an amateur orchestra, the orchestra concerned was playing the whole Swan Lake suite, as the final item in the concert. One slight problem - they couldn't get the score for the Finale for love or for money ANYWHERE in the world (this was back in 1983, so don't suggest Google). And you couldn't play the suite as the last item of a concert without playing the Finale! So, as a last resort, the conductor and the leader (they were brothers) approached me, and asked me if I could score it out for the orchestra, from a record. Yes, a vinyl record. (I have Absolute Pitch). I copied it to a cassette tape, and life for the next week became an unending series of Stop-Reverse-Stop-Play-Scribble-Whiteout-Scribble-Reverse-Stop-Play-Stop-Reverse-Stop-Play..... When I handed that score to the conductor concerned a week later, his face looked like what I imagine Moses's face must have looked like when he beheld the Red Sea parting!
    So here's a challenge to you: Would you dare to play the Finale from Swan Lake, in Core!? I'm sure you could do it justice, if what i hear on your channel is anything to go by!

      Wow beautiful story! Sure, I’m working on a series of different mock-ups and original composition and I can add that as it is one of my favourite ballets (saw that live at the opera theatre in Rome in 2019 and it was incredible)

    I'm strongly considering buying BBCSO Core in the near future. (Sad I missed the sale though). I've been unsure of the brass, but here you make that section sound quite powerful! Did you have to do any sort of tricks to get the brass section to sound like that?

    • @BrandonRichardMusic
      @BrandonRichardMusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, your pieces using BBCSO have become quite a selling point for me!

    • @trinketstoadsymphony2070
      @trinketstoadsymphony2070  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Brandon, thank you very much for your comment, I'm happy to hear that! The brass is definitely not as powerful and cinematic as you would find in other libraries and it is more suited for late romantic to golden age writing. In order to obtain powerful/brassy lines you will definitely need to think about orchestration instead of using something like a 12 horns or 6 trombones patch, and this is not necessarily a bad thing (actually it is something that I really enjoy doing).
      As far as I am concerned I love the tone even if it comes with some shortcomings as pretty audible dynamic cross-fades between layers (but I think they are going to fix that to some extent in the upcoming update as well as adding muted articulations and updated legatos).
      I would suggest that you wait until the next 25%/40% discount (I bought it25% down) since at 220/300€ this is a real bargain.
      In this particular piece I have layered the 4 horns (long articulation) with a solo horn (marcato articulation) in order to obtain more bite.

      @@trinketstoadsymphony2070 thank you for the advice! I have much to learn and these kinds of pointers will surely help me on my way! I've seen that video by Paul Thompson floating around, but haven't yet watched it, so I'll be sure to do so. I'm worried about waiting to make the purchase simply because I think this library will be incredibly helpful for my next film score project, but I'll probably have to start working on that at least by the end of March.

    I'm very late to the party. This is an incredible piece of work, hard to believe this is BBC SO Core. Can I ask a quick technical question? It is interesting to see in the Cubase file that you have boosted many of the VI instruments to 200% (or above 100% anyway). Do you do this as a matter if course, or is that specific to this piece?

    The inelasticity of the tempo is a bit of a give away to how this was done, and the orchestral balance is unnatural at times (a conductor would have worked that out). Otherwise, the sounds are surprisingly good.

    I'll start with the grizzle: Did the video actually HAVE to be blurred outside the centre? Annoying, especially when you're trying to actually follow what's happening.
    Now the good stuff: This is a piece I have known since childhood, and have played as a member of amateur orchestras. If there was no picture and no mention of "BBCSO Core", I would not have known, at first listen, that this was a Software orchestra. I loved this. Thanks for posting.

You may have noticed in my most recent post, Electronic Cathedral, about 3/5 of the way in, there was a page of orchestral score. That piece of music, composed by myself, is the reason I am interested in Core. (Though I would have to find a Cor Anglais, some solo violas and some solo cellos from somewhere else). I'd also have to find some - er, what did they call it? Oh yes! Money.

    Great job, sounds wonderful! Beginner question: Did you program the notes, or play them in with a keyboard? Tried the latter, was very hard to do. And how did you realize Tempo changes?

    • @trinketstoadsymphony2070
      @trinketstoadsymphony2070  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you very much Volker! I played almost all the notes (with the exception of some harp apeggios) with a midi keyboard, the tempo changes were realized automating the tempo track (if you use cubase you first need to add the tempo track and then you can easily automate it left-clicking on it)
