  • @johnjoedaly
    @johnjoedaly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting to see Guy's approach to dealing with the sample delay by nudging the midi 1/128th forward.
    At 120bpm that's 64ms, which is 4ms more than I had settled on for the violins legato articulation.
    I guess the only issue with this might be that if you change the tempo/bpm that 1/128th will have a different time equivalent in milliseconds and so shift the start of your notes against the grid.
    Would love to see Spitfire come up with a more concise list of sample offset times for the library in the manual.

    I would have definitely subscribed to the channel when you put on those headphones, if it wasn't for the fact that I already have. P.S. the new legato is orgasmic. Praise the lord!! (I am getting this), seriously though, it is so good at last seeing a bit of a leap in the technology, in the sense that you can now play some melodic lines that incorporate the occasional staccato notes without having to still rely on keyswitches all the time. - Jesus, Paul Thomson's impression alone was worth watching the whole video.

    Spitfire need to add automatic divisi and multi ensemble or a way to make that and this orchestra would be perfect.

    • @r.kapaun01

      At truer statement has never been written... BBCSO needs divisi capability really badly.

    • @johnjoedaly
      @johnjoedaly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It would be nice alright.
      Something even like the 'half sections ' that they have in originals intimate strings would be enough for me.
      I'd happily programme/sequence it myself in the absence of an auto-divisi. Just to have access to half sections would be great 👍

    • @nickthane
      @nickthane 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely agree with that. I’ve had BBCSO core for a month and love it. But the two things I’ve noticed is that I keep using another library with an ensemble patch and then going back and reorchestrating using for BBCSO which is a slog. Also half sections would be great. I’ve found the string legato patches tend to overwhelm things like the solo oboe or flute.

    • @lukdub
      @lukdub 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true. I love BBC SO Pro, but for basic articulation on strings I prefer String Section from Symphony Series by Native Instruments with its automatic divisi system.

    I already thought BBCSO sounded really nice - but this update just makes it absolutely lovely! The horn and flute are sooo nice. I don't really feel like I need another symphonic library - and it's such a nice feeling to not need to spend more money! That being said, I have Core and might update to Pro at some point if I ever decide to get an external drive.

    • @CraigRodmellMusic

      I can vouch for that. I bought Core last year, and I find it the most fantastic tool. Though I do miss some of the instruments that are missing, and Pro would be nice! But the budget for both the library and the additional computing power just isn't there.

    Different, but this reminds me a lot of Guy Gross's score for the finally movie of "Farscape, The Peace Keeper Wars" I think even the same chords in the same key. Guy Gross scored the music electronically for all four seasons of the T.V. show, but was given the budget to use a live orchestra, including choir, for the music in the movie. Most of the movie was dealing with war and battle conflicts and this just reminds me of it. In my humble opinion, Guy Gross is an amazing composer. It's inspiring to watch you build this in less than 15 minutes.

      @@BlueSpawn The full series DVD set had extra content on each DVD that had 15 to 20 min recordings for quite a few of the episodes on each DVD, of Gross explaining how and why he created the music for those episodes. The Gross videos and the "director's comments" on each episode make that set worth three times what you pay for it.

      Yet as he said he didn't use anything that you couldn't have in core.
      The big differences between pro and core is that there is only one mix which limits the dynamic options quite a bit.
      I have core and would love to have the close mic for example.
      There are also no solo strings in core. (There are solo brass and woodwinds though).
      And there are a few instruments in pro not in core.
      It is heavy as heck either way with core.
      Especially if you do not clean out all kinds of articulations.
      A big thing is also that if you have only core (I believe) you can load in the music made in pro and it will downgrade it for you. (not that certain though).
      At least you can run the three different modes (if you have pro... so you can collaborate with owners of core and probably even discover).

      @@peope1976 You are correct. You can load up projects made using more expensive versions and it will do its best to play it by substituting articulations and instruments for ones you have.
      This is true even if you only have the free/cheap 'Discover" version. It's designed for teaching environments I believe, so students can carry on work using personal machines without needing licenses for expensive orchestras.

    One problem I have not been able to figure out is whenever I play the same note in succession, the second note has this slight crescendo. For example, if I am using the violins legato and I play a C for two beats and play the same note for another two beats, the second C will give this slow rise from soft to normal volume. Granted, I don't compose with a midi keyboard, I compose in Finale and save the file as a midi and open it up in Studio one so maybe something to do with that but haven't figured it out. Any suggestions, I am all ears.

    Guy, it's a bit hard to see from your video, but I'm trying to understand how you are applying expression when playing. It looks like you are using the modulation wheel at least? What cc parameter do you control with that? Do you ever do multiple parameters while playing (say using faders on your icon?)? Thanks!

    One thing I am interested in is what happens after you complete a project in cubase where does it go from there you export the stems then what happens next are the stems remixed , Do you use the score editor to create the printed parts for your Orchestra. Just an idea for a Video mabe many thanks.

    great video Guy! i am still having issues with the timing Celli and basses short notes in fast passages. I have sent the file to spitfire support and they have reported that they are also able to reproduce the result and has not been fixed in this update ( i was so hopeful :( ) . wondering if u have experienced the same and have a work around. Messing with the Tightness variable has no effect on the timing at all and a fixed track delay is not working as the timing issue is on random notes. I don’t seem to have this issue with symphonic or chamber strings.

    • @ThinkSpaceEducation
      @ThinkSpaceEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean they're all consistently late (fixable) or they are inconsistently late (not fixable)?

    • @johnjoedaly
      @johnjoedaly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's been an issue for alot of people . Multiple posts of forums talking about it.
      I initially thought it was an issue with some of the round robins having different sample start times as the timing would fluctuate during extended passages of staccato/spicatto repetitions. And the timing variation didn't seem to be consistent, it changed depending on what point you start the track.
      But........
      Someone suggested that the issue lies in the sample variation in the different velocity layers.
      Try setting the velocity of all notes the same and see if it resolves......👍.
      No more dynamic ostinato lines 🤣🤣
      This update is very encouraging though as it means that they are still working on this library, so we might see a resolution to it some day......fingers crossed!
      I love this library ♥️
