Great job. I love it. Please consider hearing protection for your kiddos. From years of driving Detroit powered trucks I can tell you that the high pitched whine of the blower and turbo are equal if not more damaging to your hearing as the loud noise.
That old Detroit sounds nice, with a little sound deading didn't hurt the noise level. Hopefully it wont hurt your ears, or rattle your brain. The truck is looking good too. 😊
My father put a 453 turbo Detroit in the F350 Ford flatbed 1 ton back in like 1980 pops mated it to a 5x4 didn’t have a lot of power, but man the look and sound was so unique people loved it
Awesome truck and great sounding. If you still need to reduce the noise or drone level on the interior look into Kilmat or similar sound deadening insulation products, it's a thin butyl rubber sound insulation sheets that has a self adhesive side and you just stick it on your interior sheet metal wherever needed, a 2-4" hand roller helps adhere it into crevices and make it form to the panels.
That's good advice, thanks. I do have the firewall covered in the butyl rubber sheeting. I'll be adding more as I work through the rest of the interior. 👍
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Now that is one sweet looking & sounding Diamond T. You should have plenty of power & ability to haul/get down the road. I love seeing the old trucks getting a new lease on life. I have a 51 REO that a work in progress. It needs lots of work, but most of the older trucks do, as you probably know. Many of us like to know as many details of a build & a visual evidence of it all. Looking good, Dude! Will be a treasure! Blessings. 💥🥰✌️
@@hanscustomshop 🇺🇸 A good project indeed. I have a 454 or a DT466 diesel to use in it. Not sure what route I’m taking yet. I have much to do before then. It’s currently a wrecker. It’s coming along. Enjoyed your truck. Have fun with your truck! 💥🤩✌️
Nice rat rod diamond T truck it reminds me of the good ole days where Detroit Diesel engines were running around even before i was born now it’s all Cummins caterpillar and other diesel engines
Just awesome, I love these old Diamond T's. For some reason I thought that all the Detroit's had to use a rootes type of supercharger. Great job, if I get to Colorado some day I hope to see it person, maybe let us know if you are going to a car show.
You're right... all 2 cycle Detroit Diesel engines use a "blower" to blow fresh air into the cylinders and scavenge exhaust gas out. The blower doesn't increase the pressure of the air, so the term supercharger really doesn't fit. Turbochargers were an option for many of the Detroit Diesel models. The turbocharger feeds high pressure air into the intake of the blower. 👍
Love it! Thanks for the details on the exhaust and the turbo! I have a 453t , ‘48 Ford f5 and an ‘85 f350 dually rolling chassis. Still looking for a trans, possibly 8 spd. But, I am thinking of selling the 453 and looking for a 353. That 3 cylinder has a nastier sound IMO. Keep the updates coming on this beauty!
Thanks for your comment. The 453 was a very tight fit in this truck. In hindsight, a 353 would have been a much easier selection. But I'll make good use of the extra power. I actually just recently bought a salvaged Silver 3-53T out of an aircraft tug. I don't know what it'll be going into yet, but I've got some ideas. 👍
Havan arctic cat 1000 triple natural gas generac which runs good and makes 277/480v power. how does an detroit 4-53 2 stroke compare and detroits run better klotz techniplae like an 8-71.
The AC 1000 is 1800 rpm and 48 kw, it could do 32 kw with the exhaust valves at lower port timing at 1200 rpm thought. She can burn either shell rotella or amsoil interceptor though, oil pressure about 40 psi of VRO feed.
Yooo, run that mother hubbard down the road, that thing sounds badass. You can really hear the blower through the exhaust giving an otherwise boring 4-cylinder some kind of epic synth/raid siren sounding overtone.
Just saying i knew a man that made his on style of a flow master super 10 style muffler....where there's are oval these are square...but he made them for a 8v71 ...same style muffler just in diesel dimmishion..and it sounded amazing....mit be a neat pice of Info...cool little truck 👍👍👍👍👍👍

With turbocharged always let the engine idle for at least 30 seconds before shutting down engine puts oil in the turbo for lubricant and the turbo can spend at 20,000 RPM. With no oil going to the turbo it will go bad quick.
So I have a 453 detroit diesel. I've been looking to put in a truck still looking for a truck to put it in. My question is what trans are you using, adapter plate and turbo. Another thing is I'm looking to put a set of Jake's on mine. Any help is appreciated
I'm using a Roadranger RTO-6610 transmission, which is a 10 speed manual. No adapter plate, but you need to make sure your bellhousing and clutch housing are the same size (for example, SAE #2). I had a Silver turbo on the engine, but recently installed this Pulsar 300 series with a 63mm compressor wheel. I haven't driven the truck yet, so can't report on how well the turbo works. Jake's are tough... they are relatively rare for the 53 series, so very expensive (maybe $1000 per cylinder). I do know some folks are working on an aftermarket solution.
Don't know if they made a bypass blower for the inline 53 series but without it your trying to push all the turbo boost through the blower which turn the blower into a restriction and a parasitic load. A company Johnson & Towers developed the bypass blower end plate that significantly improved performance on 92 and 149 series engine. I think they may have bypassed the 6V-53 on high output marine engines. Nice looking build. Good job.
Yes, Detroit made a bypass blower for this engine. It was installed on Silver series engines. I want one, but they are hard to find. Hope to make that upgrade sometime soon. 👍
An intercooler would be nice, but absolutely no space available for one. This is the OEM configuration of this engine (turbo straight into blower), this turbo is just a little larger. But the turbo isn't radically larger. I'm not concerned about air temp.

I'll be able to answer your questions better after driving the truck some. Although the 7A77 is for 71 series like you mentioned, it is a popular choice for the 53 series folks that are looking for a little extra power. There are actually guys running 92 series injectors in 53 series engines. Regarding boost pressure, I'll be able to tell you once I drive the truck and can get the engine warmed up and loaded. Can't wait to do it! 👍
Needs fresh outside intake air!! Put outside breathers it’s sucking in hot air under the hood!! It will perform better and get better fuel mileage with cool air intake
