Welcome to the world of believers, Jim. 😉 I’m one of “those guys” (as you know). I have many watches, but the GW-9400 is my anchor watch. I’m not going to boo-hoo about the screen (or thickness). I wear readers anyway. I can read it with or without them. It’s earned the name Master of G, making it (as you say) a peak watch. By the way, you nailed it with the mud resist marketing ploy. And G Shock lists the buttons as stainless steel. Great review, brother. 👍🏻
Got that exact one a couple years ago ... Its just a watch. But its a keeper. Its literally a solid beast. It actually sort of broke the momentum of a falling drain pipe hitting me when i put my arm up to protect myself. Albeit my wrist was bruised but it took it in the face .. guess what still works. The altimeter is only accurate if you recalibrate a lot . As the pressure affects the reading. But it does actually work ok. Screw the new smartish looking watches. My other watch is a 5610 ... You dont need anything else
Thanks for the video, Jim! I found out that the Rangeman buttons are indeed stainless steel (check spare part web sites, I also took several of my 6 over the years owned 9400s apart to find out, so I am positive), the yellow bumper is just plastic. The lug problem only is one if you press the band toward the outside, not as easily to the inside, as you did in the video. God bless and have a good 2025!
Hey Bro. Jim. Out of all of my G Shocks that I own. The Rangeman GW 9400-1B is now my favorite one out of all of them. I absolutely love this Rangeman. I've had it about 2 weeks and I haven't worn any of my other ones.
You are absolutely right about not wanting the Bluetooth and all that stuff. Reliable, tough as nails, dependable. Mine is the version with the negative display, it's not super readable but it works for me. Not planning to sell it ever. Great video.
Always love watching your G shock reviews. Can’t wait to see your Mudmaster review. I own Mudmaster, mudman and GBD-H2000, but I don’t know how to do reviews.
This version is much better than the Rangeman I bought in 2017. The negative display was by far the worst display I’ve ever used! The Multiband only syncs like once a week no matter where I position it
Great video, I have the red accent rangeman gw 9400 for 8 years. I don't know if the screen is better on this one, the older one is just crisp as this one. I think is a great watch. I'm waiting for a detailed review of the citizen promaster land.
@@JimKinkade Ok, because they arrived here. And I tried them on. But there is another one, the promaster geo trecker, without the digital display, but radio controlled, only available on the metal bracelet. The most confortable is this rubber band version, the cordura band is stiffer and fewer adjustment positions. And I prefer the resin or this urethane band in cold weather. We have snow here in the mountains.
Several years ago when I bought my GW9400 Casio had "mud resistant" in the description but I think they removed it to differentiate from the Mudman. And your opening statement is right. I have not been able to find a more suitable watch for myself.
Jim, you need to check out the black gw9400. I have it and love it. It's definitely not the best watch for readability indoors, but the watch looks so good that I don't care. Plus at night, the backlight doesn't blind you. I sometimes wear my mudman during the day and switch to the murdered out rangeman at night because the backlight doesn't light the entire house up.
The biggest problem up north, is the solar power! I bought 9400 but it is usable only six months per year… because of long sleeves and it takes several days to recharge even though you put the watch in the window. Otherwise a superb watch…
@@NickApostolakis Flipped it today and bought a Garmin 2x solar! The rangeman was my favourite watch but in my opinion it was unusable! I couldn’t stand recharging it at least 1-2 times per month. It just stayed in the drawer. I liked the functions but fx storm warning used the battery in just a couple of days… I was considering a Casio gg b100 but was tired of the plastic and cheap feeling of Casios and wanted to try a Garmin this time.
I like the Dewalt Rangeman! It looks awesome! Firing up CERN changed history? We might never know haha! They might be sneaky to sell it as a feature on the mudman...
Too thick, screen too small - had it - sold it - new MudMan MEC edition is so so good - bought bc of your love and gushing on the Mudman and now I 'get it". I am now looking at the special edition Mudman - GW-9501KJ-8JR. Pretty different and I kind of dig it as I love LEs.
My favorite G-Shock is the GW-9200 RISEMAN , I own 13 in different colors. My next favorite is the GW-9400 which was the succeser to the Rangeman GW-9400. It;s funny , but I own 13 of these in different colors as well. I did buy the GW-9400Y like you have , as well as the new Rangeman just because I wanted it. The few things I like more about the RISEMAN GW-9200 over the RANGEMAN GW-9400 is: You have the day of the week and the barometer graph on the screen at the same time , not one or the other like the Rangeman. I also like that from the time screen you need to only push the bottom right button once to see when you received a atomic time signal , the Rangeman requires you to push the MODE button 7 times. I like the resin strap keeper on the Riseman better then the metal one on the Riseman. The Riseman also displays the year next to the month and day. The one feature I like on the Rangeman over the Riseman is the SUNRISE/SUNSET , The Riseman doesen't have this feature.
To be honest, I'm a lot bigger fan of a Mudman (I got a full box of Mudmans) than a Rangeman (I got only one Rangeman - GPR-B1000 Slice of Darkness, but okay, that's very far from basic). GW9300 Mudman is a lot different than GW9400 Rangeman, at the first place it's a lot smaller at the wrist, a functions are different, it feels like it's made of stone, and a JDM Mudman have that extremely good carbon insert band including a carbon insert keeper, which is hard (or impossible) to beat, it's untouchable. But after a lot of Mudmans before, it comes with a single tang buckle, not with a double tang buckle which is for that band a bit meh, but okay. In my opinion Rangeman isn't the evolution of the King, there's no similarities, a King is made just like ''look what we can do, are you brave enough to wear it?'' Newer Mudmans would be kinda evolutions of the King maybe...a King is in my opinion the evolution of G-5500 Arnie. Mud resistance is not just a bunch of gaskets around and inside the buttons, that's basically a case inside the other case. If someone is putting a lot off stress at the band, he's wearing a wrong watch. Yes, a watch should last, but I got a doubt about the plastic bezels (when they start to turn into a dust like a Casios from the last century), and it's a question will it be available to buy at that moment with such a huge attack of a new models. good video, you're going at the right direction Jim, just keep going
A hug from our friend from Brazil! I have one of these, it's perfect! So I have doubts about the barometer and temperature measurement, test it with yours if possible!
Jim, I really enjoy your videos. But why do you not compare your beloved Mudman/Rangeman with a Garmin Instinct 2x Solar? That would be a GREAT video and you gonna be surprised, positively!
I absolutely love my Rangeman. Been wearing it for 5 years and have no plans to ever replace it.
You're a Rangeman diehard!

@JimKinkade right on Jim :). Have a great day!
Love my Rangeman, but the new Mudman 9500 have more legibility and is thinner. I'm going to buy it.
It is more legible because of its big screen and big numbers
Yeah ,add the protection of screen is also a great deal
It's also has a high traceability nuance no thanks
