I have used my basic fur over a year and love it, it isn't hugely warm for up north nights sometimes, so bring it as add on or have another clothing or hot water bottle. As for packing, tents I stuff, tarps I fold.
Great review, always informative. A swagman (also called a swaggie, sundowner or tussocker) was a transient labourer who traveled by foot from farm to farm carrying his belongings in a swag. The term originated in Australia in the 19th century and was later used in New Zealand.
@@MoorlanderEDC I think the American version is a hobo. They carried a bindle. Hobo roll or bindle roll doesn't have the same ring to it as swagman roll 😂
Maybe I missed it , but the swagman roll is water repellant and the basic is not. I love mine it saves the amount of kit I have to haul when bush crafting in the minimalist style.
Go for the full version guys, don't get the basic. This is a great piece of kit!!! If you combine it with the Helikon Tex Poncho, you get a full kit with huge versatility. Sleep system, Cold weather, Rain etc, it covers it all and then some!!
Get the expensive one! I've had mine a few years, in coyote, and it's been perfect for camping. Multi use as blanket, jacket and sleeping bag in summer. In autumn it's my dog's blanket when I bring my proper sleeping bag. It's been used more than I thought it would be when I first bought it, so money well spent. Same for the waterproof poncho that goes with it, another multi use item, groundsheet or rain jacket, emergency tarp. I'd recommend buying both at the same time.
Hello, I have been involved in online shopping abroad in the past two years. I would like to know if there are any Black Friday discounts at helikon tex or any large-scale festivals in Europe that you can share. Thank you very much. I watched the video you introduced and bought some of the products you introduced from a seller in my country. The products are great and I like them very much. However, there are still many styles that I need to look for on the Helikon tex official website or European online stores. If possible, I still hope to buy them. Save some money. I like tiger stripe very much. I saw the new camouflage pencott after watching your video. This camouflage is really awesome. I live in a subtropical country. Wearing pencott into the jungle will make me blend into nature and become invisible. 😂
😂 It does have that old school vibe. It's the Beast Hoodie from PDW. Absolutely perfect for this time of the year - heinnie.com/prometheus-beast-hoodie-pullover/

Nice camparison Was not really a choice for me, I preferred to go to the 'normal/premium' Swagman ^^ ... 'but' I would like some upgrades (in conjunction with the poncho) => an upgrade with a larger edition to have a better spring/summer sleep system (I am not a big man but I feel a lil too tight into it for my taste, it is ok for me but would like lil more room)
If you doubled them up you'd definitely be able to go to lower temperatures for sure. I'd use the basic one on the outside and have the DNC version on the inside. I think that would be the best combo
Good review, my man. I have two Swagmans myself; the DNC, which you're sporting, plus the more normie-friendly Aqua version. They're not bad, but they're not as warm as I thought they might be. In fact, I'd say my Saltrock festival insulated poncho is warmer, though it's not packable. Still the Helikon product is superior to the USGI woobie which I've also got.
Integration with Helikon-Tex's poncho is seemless. After that, I'm reasonably sure they'll work with them all, however, it's definitely something I'm looking into for more content. From a quick scout around, most seem to be around 2 x 1.4m so they'll pretty much under anything. They only difference might be slight differences in size if you're using the toggles to connect to the poncho itself
No, definitely don't get too close to the fire. Outdoor Gear Review just did a 3 year update on his and he has a few wee burns on his from embers getting too close th-cam.com/video/iF4t12z4SH4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3blXbDX73r79cazb
@@MoorlanderEDC Thank you for a quick reply! I also have another one: It seems the rolls pouches have producer/importer on them, but are they actually mage in Polan? Does the Poncho model have a tag that tells which country it is made in?
If I were a bushcraft guy I would go for the roll despite the huge price difference. I like the versatility of this product. However like I said I’m more trekking and not a big fan of ponchos even against the rain.
How do you find the length and width of them in sleeping bag mode? Ive seen quite a few people online wishing for a larger version. Im 6'2" and 200lbs so its hard finding a summer bag that is long enough to fit me without feeling clausterphobic like Im sliding into a snake skin tube
It would be amazing to have more room. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. I'm 5'10" and about 210lbs. I fit in with both of my arms around my side and there's still room. Granted, I am only wearing a tshirt. I can full the zip up just over my head as the max length is roughly 2m or 6'5" (but you do lose a wee bit of length as it curls around my feet and belly). I'm guessing Helikon-Tex as fits to how large they can make it due to the pretty standard size of ponchos. They could easily make a larger poncho and liner with an extra 3 or 4" in each direction. It's just how many people would buy them Hope that helps buddy

PS It's suprisingly warm for it's very light weight!!
Hope you're well my friend. Totally agree. They're an amazing combination. Well worth the extra for the Full Swagman Roll 🤙

With the poncho it's a killer combo. The two of them take up next to no room

No thanks!
That's so amazing you brought this video out today, I just ordered a Swagmanroll in Flecktarn about 2h ago haha. Great Content!

I would combine both items into one sleeping bag for temps between 50-35 degrees. Thoughts?

Looks like a decent bit of kit. Is there a particular poncho that these are designed to work with?

You mentioned a Barbecue, would be good to know if they are flame safe. Especially the polyester basic.

NICE ! 😀
Which one is warmer, the swagman roll or the basic?
The Swagman Roll is definitely warmer than the Basic. The Climashield Apex is brilliant, plus it wears better and let's in less wind 👍
Sorry if I missed it, but which color option is that on your Swagman Roll Poncho? Desert Night Camo?
That's ok, the colours are OD green and DNC

You're more than welcome. I've checked the labels and they say 'Designed in Poland, crafted in China'. I hope that helps

I would definitely agree. You really can't beat a decent three layer system. There's definitely advantages and disadvantages to both

Rollers are folders, stuffers are scrunches 😂
Of you want to usw it as a sleeping bag, you must be smaller. I‘m 1,91m and 112 kg, doesn‘t work.
Thanks for the info.
I‘m about that size and was wondering.
