1:31 Well, 2000 years, 2 million years, honestly what's the difference? Time passes fast when you're dead and the Meg sure is. What is NOT dead tho (and that's even more miraculous than a Megalodon that somehow survived the extinction of it's species) are all those Megalodon theories on the internet. And that honestly blows my mind everytime.
it's also a pain to find decent animal reference images/photography online now, almost every search result shows AI slop, it's so fucking annoying. putting -ai at the end of my searches sometimes helps, but some AI images still weasel their ways into the results. it's especially bad when trying to find reptile images.
If megalodon was still around, we would have already seen them. Being Surface hunters who prays on whales, there would have already been a noticeable decline of big cetaceans if they were still around
He was taking specifically about the Megalodon. It lived over 2 mya, every animal he tries to find went extinct in the last 100 or so and had people saying they saw it. There’s a big difference and not ironic.
@@flyingcat7145 It is definitely still ironic, especially since he still only did minimal research. A few google searches can prove quite a few things that he says wrong, although he does get much more correct than I'd expect from a typical theory channel (or even him for that matter). Additionally, there are always people saying they saw things that are most certainly extinct. And just because something went extinct in the last 100 years does NOT mean that it could still be out there. In fact, in many cases we have more evidence. Take for example the Coelacanth; It was a cave dwelling fish that we had evidence for from millions of years ago, and had presumed it to have gone extinct. A few years ago, some were found. In comparison, the Tasmanian Tiger we have seen die out; We have personally witnessed their populations dwindle, destroyed their habitat, and even had the last one in captivity. We have much more evidence for it's death than we did for the Coelacanth. It is so much more likely for the Tasmanian Tiger to be extinct than it was for the Coelacanth. This was not just due to the time period, but also the place they lived, the remaining amount of habitats, population size, etc. Most of the stuff that Forest covers actually have a much higher chance of being spotted, and if they were, there would be a video or something. Another example is the Stellar Sea Cow; It stays near the surface. It is very unlikely that there is ANY surface dwelling sea creature that we haven't discovered, much less one as large as it was. So yes, there is a big difference. Forest talks about animals that we have more evidence for, have witnessed the extinction of, and have been able to find quite clearly considering there are about 8 billion of us. There isn't really any difference when talking about the Megalodon, other than Forest does just enough research to make him almost seem believable.

5:03 Idk if James knows this but beavers are a keystone species because the dams they build significantly alter the environment, thus have a significant impact on the other organisms that live there. Basically a keystone species is a species that has a disproportionately huge impact in its ecosystem. For instance, if lemmings were insantly eliminated, it would significantly alter the tundra ecosystems. On the other hand, the loss the cirl bunting would have little consequence because similar birds will fill whatever role it once held.

It must be noted that the whales megalodon hunted where smaller generally, and indeed cooling temps seemed to cause an increase in whale size as productivity around the poles increased( albeit iirc this happened after mega fish died). Orcas likely didn’t have much of a hand in it (after all at the time they themselves where much smaller) but around the time megalodon died whale diversity did decrease, which likely played a part and caused more competition with ancestral great whites. Plus the forming of the isthmus of Panama did likely knock out a very important breeding sight for megalodon

6:25 The theory is that juvenile megalodons which lived in shallow warm waters as they grew got outcompeted by sharks like the great white as they became more prolific in its territory.
