  • Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster 1950s era Ltd. Edition with Fat 50s Single Coils. An Iconic Guitar Incorporating Some of the Best parts of the 50s era in this 2022 Build.
    In the previous video I spoke about my PRS McCarty S2 594 Double-Cut, a great guitar to play and very good for my studio recording projects, however…. I just don’t have a bond with it. In this video, I’m talking about and illustrating a guitar that’s not as easy to play, but its one that I just can’t put down! The Custom Shop Fender Stratocaster Limited Edition 50s model from the Fender Custom Shop 2022 series, is a mix of various parts modelled from, throughout the 1950s period, taking the best attributes from those years and blending them into what you see and hear in this video. Finished with a moderate relic look, this Stratocaster comes in the early 2 Tone wide-fade chocolate sunburst.
    While the majority of the guitar is of a vintage styling, it does sport the 5 blade selector switch, which did not appear until later in the 1970s but is a welcome upgrade in my opinion. Again, while the single ply scratch plate is fitted, it comes with 3 more screw fixings to alleviate possible buckling and fracturing of the plate; yet another late feature which once again I welcome. Hand-Wound Fat 50s pick-ups complete this particular model and for those interested I have done a comparison video with Stratocaster Fat 50s, Fat 60s, Texas Specials and Mod V1 pick-ups. Do check-out my video review here - • Q&A:4 Fender Stratocas...
    While this is not an exhaustive review and test, it will give anyone interested in this type of guitar offering from the Fender Custom Shop an idea of what it’s all about... Enjoy!

      Your very welcome Jim... many thanks for the comment. You purchased a few Strats and Teles lately... wow!, that sounds like one exciting shopping spree ;-) I've done a few Gibson related videos you can find on my channel that might interest you. One of my favourite Gibson guitars is the LP Special Double-Cut with P90s in TV yellow... such a nice classic but needs a bit of care and attention to get the right tones out of it. I'm working on the next video just now which is my Strat late 64 with Fat 60s pick-ups... this is just such a nice guitar to play... Do feel free to share more... regards: Stu

      Lol, I started out on drums and ended up playing guitar... also been in a few motorcycle accidents... oh! to be young and stupid.. ;-) Good to hear your back playing guitar, it's a great thing to be able to do and as you say it doesn't matter about how expensive something is but how you bond with a guitar, or an amplifier for that matter. Always great to hear others stories so do feel free to share. @@joshuataft5541 My last bike was a Triumph 650 twin - well, the engine was Triumph, the rest of it was a custom build, that was another passion - custom bike and car building... but the lifestyle led to a number of poor life choices. 40 years on I appreciate a nice piece of engineering but have no interest any longer. Friend of mine recently bought an Enfield, very nice and gave me a shot of his Harley. Life certainly has its challenges but those experiences can make for some good song writing opportunities... Well done for "Re-booting" your Career. Me? 46 years ( Guitar) and the neighbours still ask me to please play the drums quietly after 9pm, given up trying to tell them I don't play the drums!! PS, write a tune with it.

I do remember the days as a youngster learning the guitar and specifically... learning to control feedback through my Marshall stack at full volume and all the neighbours got a petition together to shut me up... the police were regular visitors and the environmental department monitored the noise levels... 45 years on and we are all friends now... ;-)

      Hi Sooparticular - and greetings from Scotland. Only been to New York once, it was freezing cold, did the usual tourist things. My wife loved the place but I prefer the countryside. Yes this particular 50s style Strat from the Custom Shop is beautifully put together and very nice to play, but as mentioned - it would not be for everyone... you kind of have to get to grips with it to get what you want out of it. Hi Tosh... that's interesting about the Westbury and the remark about being in Edinburgh... that's because I am from Edinburgh (moved out more than 20 years ago) and played all the usual places in and around Edinburgh in the 70s and early 80s. I had the Westbury around 1980/81 and as mentioned it got stolen and returned a year later. I took one of the DiMarzios out of it and put it in my Gibson SG and put the SG's Humbucker into the Westbury. I then traded the Westbury at a long-gone little guitar shop for something (Owned by Pile Driver PA Hire) and never heard what happened to it. That Westbury is actually on an album that was released long after the band died and it sounds pretty good. Thanks for subscribing and do jump in with conversation... and yes you might find some of my 'Journey back Series' videos interesting since your in Scotland. Would love to see a Westbury again... Best regards... Stu

    • @StuGuitarChannel
      @StuGuitarChannel  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Peter - I understand your comment regarding the Fat 50s, although with the different windings available I'm not sure what you have in your 2013 FSR. Playing 50s style guitar music aside, I personally, find the pick-ups in my Strat have a lovely tone, especially through a Fender Twin Reverb, but when I want to push things a little then this is where some outside help is needed to increase sustain and drive. In a video coming up I take a look at my 60s Strat which has hotter Fat 60s and this is much easier to get the tones I prefer. Still... I love the 50s model, it's just an iconic instrument. Hello Stu, what is your preference on string gauge for this guitar.

    • @StuGuitarChannel
      @StuGuitarChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Jagger - I use 9s and 10s d'addario strings on this Strat as well as a mix of both. I think the 10s tend to give the tone a bit more depth since the Fat 50s pick-up are quite bright sounding. However, other folks may have different preferences depending on how they use this type of guitar. Do you have this type of Strat? if so, what do you use? regards: Stu

    • @evrim_k
      @evrim_k หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes Stu, actually, I have an American Professional II series Fender Strat. It is loaded with a Fat 50s pickup set installed and has maple fretboard. Of course, we can't expect it to be on the same level as your custom shop, but it has quite similar specs. The reason I asked the question is that the tone in the video sounds fuller and deeper compared to mine, especially the bridge pickup. I actually use 9-46 hybrid strings as well. I realized that now the difference is not due to string gauge. Thank you very much for your response.

    • @StuGuitarChannel
      @StuGuitarChannel  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@evrim_k Hi Jagger... You are most welcome... While those guitars do have differences in build, the little Blackstar amplifier and the way I have it set, may very well be responsible for the tonal difference. I have not added anything to the original camera recording so you are hearing (TH-cam compression issues aside) it as best I can get. Although I would say, in the room it actually sounds even fuller than what it sounds on TH-cam. Another consideration is also the type of Hand-Wound Fat 50s as there are different windings. Just some thoughts for you... regards: Stu

      @StuGuitarChannel they sure did do good its nit over done...but I am the type I do like the character of a worn guitar..and realy from working with wood a lifetime ago and knowing a bit about sound the wood is resonant when it gets old..it dries put and the wood fibers almost petrified..making it sound good and new rigs jst aren't old enough and finish can deaden a guitar you woukd think..its like piting tape on a cymbal or drum head..changes the tone....I will say it's a good excuse to have a few diff guitars around cause the do sound diff... especially when ypu play with minimum effects...jst fun to think and talk about somtimes...ots been a dark dreary day here..its supposed to ❄️ perfect day for jamming or watching a video
