Just watched #8 so all's well that ends well BUT interesting to see that I'm not alone in giving up at some point. Went as far as ringing a neighbour's doorbell with key in hand for my 79 Gl1000 to give it away. Fortunately he wasn't home and I ended up nailing the Gold Wing repair. (phew)
Test the fuel level when engine is running by doing clear pipes from bowl draining holes and lift hoses beside of carb frame. When screw is open, fuel level rises same height as inside of bowl.
Ttry and fatten up you slow jet, see what happens. I am going to do this on my old 1200 bandit. But I am 6000 feet up. One guy is saying to fatten up my fast jets and put a shim under the needle to raise it. He is saying there is a lot of cross over on the mains. Humm.. Its my idle that is lean. When I get on it "off Idle" the bike is violently fast and I love it!! Very hard to keep the front tire on the ground. Plug chop does show lean for sure. So.. That is why I am considering only fattening my slow jets up. Currently a 37.5. Next size up is a 40. Also I removed my rubber Stack off the air box with makes the intake hole a lot larger which is also leaning it out of course. Will try the 40 and raise my needle on each carb and see how that goes. Also. Did a bench Syn on my carbs using 2 needles of the same type from my sewing kit. This worked fantastic as once I put my car b sync tool on it, they were very close as they needed little to no adjustment. So if you do not have a carb sync tool, this is a great way of doing a carb sync! I was amazed!
o rings on the mixture screws can be a cause, also would swap slides from 1 and 2 see if changes cylinder maybe just a duff diaphragm not holed just no good have seen that myself.would check they are correct needles and have a look at emulsion tubes hole can wear oval where the needle goes in.if air leak spraying around carbs with wd will tell you engine note will change briefly, those carbs a pain when messing about.
I put new o-rings in the mixture screws. OEM o-rings. All the slides are brand new. They are correct ones. Needles too are brand new. No changes when spraying anything around carbs. I'll pull the rack again and check the emulsion tubes. I was under the impression they were pressed in, but the parts fiche does show them replacable and removable. That's one thing I haven't yet checked directly. Thanks.
I you think you have a vacuum leak, use starter fluid to check as this will make your bike speed up a little when the ether/starter fluid is ingested. Do not spray water or brake fluid as this is not good for the motor when ingested.
Do you have a way of spraying an accelerant on the enrichers you mentioned? if you can, maybe you can confirm their failure by the response of the cylinders. The Talk is running Great BTW, Thanks again LT.
I am dropping a video right now which will be live soon. Short version is, my vacuum leak was (mostly) imaginary and completely my fault. I figured it out today.
I’m sure you’ve checked but are the butterfly shafts or spindles worn excessively? Are the butterflies set on the shafts concentrically to the venturi bore? Being a 1978 Z owner I’m feeling your pain, but I love your videos 😜

Yes I did but on the bench. It’s called a service fuel level by Kawasaki. I hadn’t thought about doing one in situ with it running. Thanks.

Time to get back on the 78 Z1R!

@@MotoRestoFL they tap out gently from bowl side.also forgot the brass tubes on the right hand side of carb can be the culprit, loose or pinhole
Tough pill to swallow. Enjoyed the video and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE TOM!

I might try that, I forgot I have a can of starter fluid somebody gave me a while ago. Glad to hear the rest. Cheers.
Have you tried to spray a little carb cleaner around various places to find the vacuum leak?

I've been working on a no-compression Honda.
It would bother me the rest of my life if I didn't figure it out, even though that's not many years!!
Re build the carbs something is going on there
