Words you say Never seem to live up to the ones inside your head The lives we make Never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead.... Love Chris.. so very sadly missed!! He can do no wrong in my eyes!!
@ndesdsadfd From that album it’s always Outshined I agree. Rusty Cage no so much, but every song on that album is great and there are only a few channels out there who aren’t afraid to do deep cuts.
This has been my favorite Soundgarden song since Superunknown was released. I dealt with social anxiety and it really does give you the feeling that you never have success when dealing with others, even if they felt you did great or got a win. Every day is just so self-critical until you overcome it.
"I appreciate the song more than I like it." Well said, Nick. The music (and video) seemed as unsettled as his state of mind, and eerily foreshadowed the manner of his death years later.
Powerful and positive and uplifting. As per Chris Cornell it’s not about what a lot of folks think it is. And expertly performed by the entire band. And at the same time I get where both of you were coming from.
Soundgarden, and really anything with Chris, is my favorite. This has been 1 of my favorites for quite a while now. Sorry you weren't too much into it. I can't go wrong with them.
I'm sure everyone ascribes their own meaning to this.. at the point in my life when I heard it, I felt like it was about being able to ignore all I could see that was wrong in the world and live a shallow, surface based life like all my friends seemed to be signing on to. Could I just work, have kids, wear a golf shirt and drive a mini-van? I'm sure to Chris it had a much more terrifying meaning. RIP and thanks for the music.
Love this song! The layers of guitar, and lead and backing vocals on top of the plodding (in a good way) bass and drums is transcendent. Sorry you guys didn't see the dark beauty and prog-grunge-metal complexity of it. I guess it isn't for everyone but it is a masterpiece of 90s hard rock to those it hits with.
The lyrics make this song. To admit to yourself that you're a liar... few men have that sort of bravery. The vocal performance is astonishing. I'm a fan of "build-up" songs and this is one of those and I think it's effective. The different time signature is interesting and it is unsettling, as was noted, and that was almost certainly intentional. Great track off that album.
Great reaction! Can you also do Head Down, Thousand Days Before, Rusty Cage, Outshined, My Wave. So many great songs. And Audioslave: Show Me How to Live, Doesn't Remind Me.
Maybe since this wasn’t for you, I recommend Outshined. It’s amazing and what made me fall in love with Soundgarden! Cochise from Audioslave is also great. Chris’ voice is amazing and so is the instrumentals!
SUPERB song! Cornell, Thayil, as well as: Cameron and Shepherd; all at the top of their game, here. 🤘🤘 ...I was, always, something more of a: Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger [the best Black Sabbath album of the 1990s! AND: the best Black Sabbath album, Sabbath never wrote, nor played-on! 🤪🤪🤘🤘😁] fan, overall ...but as much as: Superunknown became a commercial breakthrough for the band (and, in many ways,: " '90s music " " (OH yes!)) ...NO-ONE can front on the greatness and the utter quality and unique nature of the song-writing and delivery of the performances! 🤘🤘💜💜💜💜🔥
Their best song imho, and certainly the best on the album. Like Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell wasn't a ray of sunshine in his lyrics, but this one definitely spoke to my 14 year-old self at the time it was released.
I am a HUGE Soundgarden fan. I like grunge and Soundgarden is the best of the genre. Superunknown is a great album. Badmotorfinger is another. This song isn’t my favorite but I certainly like it a lot. I never saw them perform but I did get to see Audioslave. They did some Soundgarden songs, so that was almost as good. Great concert. Chris walked on water in my opinion and his death was hard to take. Yahoo reminded everyone his birthday was the other day and he would have been 60. That’s kind of hard to believe. I was a little sad to see that you guys didn’t like this song so much but thanks for bringing it on.
I think the song was meant to be disturbing - I mean, come on, most of their songs were/are like this, even Black Hole Sun. I like the flaming guitars, the rhythm feels like 7/8 and the roaring sound of the guitar is great IMO, especially the "sliding" riff. They're breaking the overall, classic rhythm and it's a sensation of someone slowing down the vinyl. Chris sounds more like on Audioslave and I agree with you that he was kinda flat on this one. I mean his performance is strong like it usually is but I just wish he was more subtle/depressive during the verses. Good song but it doesn't bring the sensation like others do. You have to be honest to stay genuine and I appreciate it.
This was really the only song on the album I wasn’t into, so I hope the one mediocre song on the album doesn’t dissuade you from continuing the journey with this band. Bad Motor Finger is one of their best albums and I hope you can dive into it at some point.
It's hardcore in every way. It's not yacht rock or karaoke material obviously. I love it for what it is and says as a musician. I don't care for modern computerized music of today but that's to be expected. I was a teenager in the 80's and as result my music tastes are eclectic. I appreciate music on many levels. My age indicates my disinterest in modern music. Just soulless carbon copy music. Boring. Chris Cornell hitting crazy octaves without a dynatune is.........sadly gone.
@@73moochAlso mine. Or at least one of. The sound really sets the feeling perfectly. I don’t quite get the “disjointed” comment. It’s not 4/4, it’s choppy, it’s dark. But well structured. I may be a little biased as this was one of my favorite songs to cover back in the day. It was actually a hugely popular song. It was on the radio constantly.
In my opinion, it's rubbish, there's no melody, no proper instruments, some kind of incomprehensible strumming on guitars, similar to rock music, actually, like all alternative music, music in the 90s has noticeably gotten worse! Sorry, but this is an honest opinion.
This is who Soundgarden were: disjointed time signatures, Chris’s voice, lyrics of passion, depression & despair.
Words you say
Never seem to live up to the ones inside your head
The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead....
Love Chris.. so very sadly missed!! He can do no wrong in my eyes!!
My newest tattoo is the part about words
Love Chris!...... "WHAT A VOICE!" RIP😢
Top 3 song of theirs imo
'91-'96 was a great time for music.
You could go back a bit further to the beginning of Grunge in the 80s but yeah.
Everyone ALWAYS credits the voice ( rightfully so) but my gosh those drums are thick enough to swim in ....
Love this song. Next one should be "Outshined"
You guys need to do "Outshined," "Rusty Cage," "Fell On Black Days" and "Burden In My Hand."
Rusty Cage is a banger.
"Looking California, Feeling Minnesota" some of my favorite lyrics in all of music!
@ndesdsadfd From that album it’s always Outshined I agree. Rusty Cage no so much, but every song on that album is great and there are only a few channels out there who aren’t afraid to do deep cuts.
30 years old. ... Amazing.
I could relate in the 90s when this hit, I can still relate at the age of 58. Chris is greatly missed by many, but especially my generation.
I revel in the art of those who have passed. So many greats are gone. What they leave behind is immortal.
Love Soundgarden! Great Song!
Fantastic song.
Pretty Noose 🤘
Love this song, great album!

Mailman is my jam off of this album.
"I appreciate the song more than I like it." Well said, Nick. The music (and video) seemed as unsettled as his state of mind, and eerily foreshadowed the manner of his death years later.
My fave of theirs. Nice pick!
Fantastic song!!

So excited for this! Can't wait! I'm sure I will comment again after your reaction.

Your post squeezes my heart.
broooooo what???? that's the best song off the album. one of the best songs ever.
Agreed

That voice is undeniable though even if the subject of the songs are a bit depressing

You can see that Nick was touched by this song. This is real music. God bless Chris Cornell ... a true artist ...
Great reaction! Can you also do Head Down, Thousand Days Before, Rusty Cage, Outshined, My Wave. So many great songs. And Audioslave: Show Me How to Live, Doesn't Remind Me.
Can't imagine not liking this
I'm 78, love Chris Cornell! Just got my tee-shirt! SOME GRANDMAS PLAY BINGO,
REAL GRANDMAS LISTEN TO SOUNDGARDEN!
wish it had said AUDIO SLAVE!
Maybe since this wasn’t for you, I recommend Outshined. It’s amazing and what made me fall in love with Soundgarden!
Cochise from Audioslave is also great. Chris’ voice is amazing and so is the instrumentals!
Dagger in my heart with what you're saying 😢
I like it!
Nice job gents.
SUPERB song!

Love Chris Cornell!!
A kick-ass track from a brilliant album. RIP Chris. 😢

Appreciate your honesty guys! 🤘🔥
Nice one. Try "Superunknown" next, think you'll like it.
🔥
I will never get over his voice

Saw Soundgargen open for GNR in houston in 92... I knew right then music industry was about to change and it did
Best of the genre is a subjective thing. There are songs I like from all of the "great four".
Chris's voice was the best part of their music in my opinion. The depression of that era was disturbing and I could never dig in.
Please react to hunted down by soundgarden you’ll love it
You guys😉
Alice Cooper- Elected ( 73) Timely and a banger

I have another Canadian song. I think you would like it is "Heaven coming down" from The Tea Party.
Love you guys and your reactions!
Please do Miss Sun The Dukes of September!!

Hope someday you might listen to Ambrosia, Holding On to Yesterday. I think you might like it.
Please react to Sigur Rós❤
I don't understand you guys how you don't like it ? I won't to see what you like if these for you isn't that good or your taste is bad.
Not one of their better songs. It's too awkward and disjointed sounding. Maybe it's intended to be because of the subject matter.
This is my favorite from them, that drop at the start is dirty.

It's definitely my favorite
Not My Favorite......... 😾🙀🙊🙉🙈👽☠️💀🖤👎👎👎

It's okay, no one's gonna judge you for your apparent hearing loss
There is a melody, get your ears or your speakers checked
Never listen to u guys again
don't understand their popularity at all
zoomers
This "song" wouldn't even qualify for a movie soundtrack. Audio proof that 60's and 70's music is the real music.....
Get a hobby outside of being shitty on the internet. Stop pretending you ever even born before 9/11, no one is fooled, kid.
