Critics were harsh to STP when they started. They are a great, underrated band. Scott Weiland just a fantastic lead singer.

I was born in 91, so I didn't understand at the time. I'd say one of the best rock bands ever lol... and I love music.

I thought I'd leave another suggestion, if interested. I believe you've reacted to Chris Stapleton before and enjoyed his work. So, this is Chris Stapelton and Justine Timberlake performing together. "Tennessee Whiskey/Drink You Away - Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton (CMA 2015) (by the channel: Justin Timberlake Brasil) --This performance was highly acclaimed and is still remembered as one of their most iconic moments in the history of the CMA awards. As always, I enjoy rocking with you and thanks for sharing.peace out~

I love this band and this song.. RIP to Scott Weiland.... so many influential artists taken from us too soon. This came out at a good time in my life, my early 30s and I remember driving fast in my car with this CD on full blast. My favorite era for music is the 70s, most likely because I was coming of age during that time and there was so much good music. The next best era was alternative or "grunge" again, so much good music. I am a new subscriber and I have enjoyed watching your reactions. Keep up the good work!!!

I’ve been playing music live for 25 years and When ever hiring a new singer in the band we would have him or her cover this song. Depending on how they execute would determine if they got the gig

Great song and album by STP! First heard it back in college. Hope you circle back to Collective Soul again and do "Heavy" or "Why Pt.2". I think you've only done "Shine" on your channel. They have a lot of great songs and are still putting out really good music.

That song has always been fire and always will be. I played the shit out of that album back in the day.
"Grunge" refers to the Seattle "alternative" rock scene of the '80s and early '90s. But it's not really accurate when describing the '90s stuff. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc., all have very different sounds. They are not really a genre at all.
In the '80s the term did describe a particular Seattle sound (and production, as most of the bands were on the Sub Pop or other local labels like C/Z), a fusion of punk and hard rock/metal with heavy fuzz, feedback, etc. It was also used in Sub Pop promotional material, which is how it became a term to describe the Seattle sound. But by the time the well known bands hit the mainstream in the '90s the term no longer really applied. And the bands themselves generally hated the term. The fans of the music generally hated it too, and if you used it you'd probably be called a poseur.
In any case, STP is not even a Seattle band, let alone any kind of "grunge." Bush isn't even from America, they're an English band. Candlebox is at least from Seattle and hung with the older guys from the '90s "grunge" bands. But still...

I am definitely an STP fan. The lyrics in this one are a bit underdeveloped. They didn’t put a lot of effort into them, in my opinion. The music is killer though. Scott had a great voice. I’m a fan of Velvet Revolver, too (Dig Slash). Now that I think of it, I would love to see you react to Slither. Nick is probably already familiar with that one but I think Ryan’s reaction would be fun to see. I’m betting he would LOVE it. Scott was just fantastic. Too bad we lost him. Lounge Fly, Sour Girl and Big Empty are some other great STP songs.

As someone that graduated from high school in that era, I wasn't a fan of "grunge" music. However, there seemed to be something more connective with STP's music that separated them from other groups in that period, who were trying to do the "We're a music group but we don't really perform music" deal seemingly so prevalent at the time. Later, I was actually quite excited to hear the music off the first album from "Velvet Revolver" (Scott Weiland's project with "Slash" and other Guns 'n' Roses members) and pleased about how well it was received by fans and critics. However, like so many before him and during his time, it apparently wasn't meant to be. Weiland succumbed to his illness and we lost all the great music that could have been made.

The only argument for them not being Grunge is they're not from Seattle. Their music is Grunge AF though. CCR is still Southern Rock, even though they're from California.

  • @buckeyechad1

They weren’t grunge. That was hard rock. Just like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden.

Headphones can be cool, if the music is mixed well. The thing I can't stand is hard panning. It annoys the hell out of me to have parts of a song entirely in one ear and others entirely in another ear. It's unnatural and unbalanced... almost painful to listen to for me.
If you dig that, then I guess headphones are for you. Otherwise, a great stereo with great speakers and good separation is just as good. And if the mix is using hard panning, at least you're still hearing all parts in both ears, the way God intended, while still hearing the sound movement, etc.
But because everyone is listening on their smart phones or computers these days, good stereos are more rare and more expensive. The old ones floating around are great but no Bluetooth so not very useful to people without a physical music collection.
Once upon a time, music was usually a shared experience. We listened to music together, not off in our own worlds closed off from everyone else. I think it's better that way. I would rather listen to music with other people at lesser quality than by myself at the higher quality.
But that's how I grew up. Even when Walkmans hit in the '80s people still mostly listened to the radio or played records and cassettes (and CDs when they hit), or watched MTV together. We danced together, sung along together, etc. Music is supposed to bring people together. Now you can have several people in a car or house, and everyone is listening to different shit and oblivious to everyone else. 🤷🏻
