      Hey Asian boss. Another great interesting video with another famous celebrity on. But I have to say, it's another video about black people being part of Koreans' racism against blacks. And follows that same narrative you would find in the west. But, don't you think it's really not quite the same as it applies to Korea when in fact the first presence of black people in Korea was with the US military. And they came into Korea along with whites as more of a people in power and perpetrators and not as victims. I mean you would have to look no further than some of the half black celebrities like In Soon Yi, Yoon Mi Rae, and others. They were basically dumped in Korean peninsula and left there. I know it's part of Korea that's shameful. But there's this big hole that's not not talked about, and I think is part a more accurate story than what is presented here.

Sam had the courage and perseverance and stayed in Korea, learned Korean fluently and made something of himself. But your husband didn't have the strength nor tenacity and refused to learn Korean and whinges why he couldn’t get a job in Korea - playing a typical victim! He had to runaway back to a familiar environment! How's living in the USA now?

He is Ghanaian, his subconscious thoughts are not that he lives in a society where his life is valued less or that his livelihood or his life can be taken from him on the basis of skin color by Neanderthals.
      So next time you want to compare blacks from majority black countries vs ones where whites are the majority think long and hard about what makes them different.

    im happy he's representing people of color with good vibes and finally starting to make koreans realize everyone of one race isn't the same.
    Edit: I said people of color to round up people who wasn’t white, minorities sounds like a better fit, tbh I don’t like saying that either, I just wish we could just be us. The point is, we need to treat each other better. Hate doesn’t do anything except make things worse.

    I'm happy that Sam made it, but there are a lot more people out there who are still subjected to discrimination. I hope there are more awareness like this everywhere in the world. It really starts with you. Even if they can't speak your language, have compassion and life will be better for everyone.

  • @iameubbb
    @iameubbb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2896

    As a Korean, whenever I hear about the discrimination of black people in Korea, feel so sorry and get embarrassed. To write a few, Korea was quite closed to foreign people. So people over 60 literally discriminates foreingers. Because of the Hollywood movies and some cultural trends, they surely prefer white and are scared of black. But people like Sam is trying so hard to change the point of view, and also the generation is being changed. As Young people in Korea are very opened and we know the manner, Korea will be different and better from now. I hope that I could see Koreans hanging around freely with various people from the world soon.

    • @miar.1570
      @miar.1570 8 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Victoria Lee This is nice to hear- I wonder though, how do young people in Korea learn about racism towards foreigners (and how to stop it)? it seems like it would be difficult. Is it through people like Sam who share their experiences with racism, or by researching online?

    • @iameubbb
      @iameubbb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +185

      Well I think the biggest reason is younger ones are more educated than before, and we have more opportunity to go outside of Korea and meet various people. Also Sam and others changed the view too. So we don't get educated by school or organizations, I think we are just getting involved in international flow and our moral minds are gettigbetter and better. Am I giving the right answer?

      Victoria Lee Yes, thank you! That clarifies a lot, actually. I wonder if theres a different impact on young people in Korea who meet foreigners that travel to Korea? I've heard a lot of travelers say they don't feel comfortable pointing out racist actions when they're in a foreign country, especially Korea because there's an emphasis on being polite. (Your English is awesome, by the way! 😊)

    • @iameubbb
      @iameubbb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Hmm, I bet we have impact on people who travel to Korea. They give us international minds. And some of them shows very good impressions so we can be more familiar with foreigners too!

    I can honestly say, learning Korean can really help you gain respect from the people. The elders loved me, the young girls happily talked to me. The soldiers treated me to dinner a lot. My favorite incident was being complemented by an elderly lady about my skin smoothness and even complexion. Sadly there are some rude people though. Didn’t break my stride, old ladies made my experience better..oh and soju..that helps.

    • @jamdawgutube
      @jamdawgutube 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      You shouldn't have to learn their language for them to accept you. They should accept you because you are a person. Put the shoe on the other foot: Should they learn English before all other English-speaking people accept them? That's the worst justification I have ever heard. I am black and wouldn't change it, nor would I accommodate by way of learning another person's language. South Korea is a technological advanced country. They have access to information. They can enlighten themselves if they truly want to. They choose to live in the dark.

    • @tsukishimaaoba9771
      @tsukishimaaoba9771 7 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      Duh.. You came to their country as a guest and you expect them to speak your language? racism and prejudice are all over the world. Tech world? live in the dark? how about USA? or Europe?
      I'm not justifying Korean racism or anything, racism in South Korea mainly came from unfamiliarity and prejudice, so approaching them so they become familiar with you is one of the way to reduce the racism, nothing wrong with that. To remove racism need to works from the both way, you can't expect someone to accept you while you're doing nothing.

      Of course you should if you live and work there. It's simply a matter of manner and common sense. Why do you want to get respect from people even when you are ill-mannered and disrespectful, simply because you are human?
