    Thanks for the mention and excellent video demonstration!! Please note to everybody buying these ferrules: they are sold in packs not per-piece. We have had some confusion from some of your followers buying these parts.

      Ferrules Direct sorry for any confusion, maybe we should work together to come up with a car audio starter kit or something. We would love to work together to promote something.

    OMG....I have never seen a TH-camr be so active with their community and subscribers!
    You literally listened to us about these...responded...made a video...and put it this fast!
    Just amazing! Thank you both.
    And now about the subject...ferrules. Like I've said before, I installed for 4 years (probably still would be but had to leave my job and college when my dad passed) 20 years ago and so wish my shop had these. We sold RF and Soundstream amps with set screws and it would have just made things easier and more tidy.....and more efficient. I can think of 2 cars that had DIY installs that came in. The amp was fried and the carpet burned from having to large of a power wire jammed into the terminal leaving multiple strands laying outside the area charged and ready to damage.
    Thanks for educating us.

    WOW!
    This is the video I asked for just a month after getting back in to car audio 3 years ago!
    Look how far 5 Star has came but still as always, giving out tons of free information. This is one of the most important, current, instructional videos for car audio DIY installation.
    I have no idea how many times I've shared this video with newcomers and install veterans both.
    These ferrules are equal to the invention of the wheel when it comes to care audio!
    Thanks again 5 Star!

    Very useful video! Thank you 5 Star! I would add that ferrules direct seem very very pricey and Amazon has these ferrules in a much more affordable fashion for the DIY guys that won't be blowing through tons of these every month.

    4 gauge, 1/0 and 2/0 aluminium inputs from toolmaker or ill customz are also a great substitute since they dont get squished and are recyclable. You dont have to make a new connection each time its always an easy in and easy out. Also its designed with a little stopper at the end so your amp bolt will prevent your connections from ever slipping out from the terminal. There's also anodized versions where you'll never short out even with a direct positive and negative touch.

    Very cool, I'm gonna stock up to use some of these for my amp tests. I like to use 8GA to 4GA and 4GA to 1/0GA adapters when possible in order to maximize current flow. Amp tests are much more demanding than regular amp use though.

      After melting my jl audio 1200 W mono block amp power plug I absolutely agree it was due to lack of contact and perhaps a poor choice of ground and perhaps even an absent minded not pushing the plug in properly but crimping them does reduce the deformed shape after and will still go into the hole.

    Why not use a crimp tool to properly terminate the cables with ferrules? When you use the amp screw terminal to crimp the ferrule you probably overtighten the screw and simply kill(cut) the wire strands.

    Another great video! Hey Dean I'm New to the Car Audio world and was wondering 🤔....Is it possible to replace the silver plated set screws on my amplifier with some Gold plated ones....? That's not a big deal right, as long the the set screws are the same length and thread pitch? Isn't Gold a better conductor of electricity than silver, thus making the output of the Amp better right....? Thanks!

      Kind of a late reply, I'm sure, but I use a crimp tool in my line of work, and they work really well. It allows the ferrule to be reused, and holds it on the wire without the need for heat-shrink, which adds thickness to the wire.

      Yea, I could put it on the edge of a bench and use a hammer to smash at too, but some ways of going about a task are more logical than others... I spent years working in the wire and wire connection industry and the wrong way of smashing a wire and connector together will be fine 95% -WITHOUT- causing serious damage to property or injury to others... But for the few who experience that 5%, it's often life-changing. I'm not saying the way he did in this video is going to absolutely go wrong, but when it's so easy to do things the right way if you're in an industry, why not? From what I see he is definitely using the wrong size ferrules in his demonstration. You need to use the correct one each gauge of wire has a specific diameter ferrule. Also, the wires need to protrude all the way to the end of the ferrule or even out of it (they can be trimmed with a flush cutter or sheer after its finished). Some would argue that the square wouldn't give you enough contact area, which is true, but they do make square ones as well as "D"shaped crimpers for these. you can get them pretty cheap nowadays so why not just get the right to if you're going to be doing it for a living. Just my thoughts anyway...

    • @area51junkyard
      @area51junkyard 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      team louder why the number 10..? not sure if thats accurate...So if u have an amp with 1000w max rating, you divide that number to voltage reading of your cars battery that ur amp is hook on. Say your battery puts out 13.8 volts, you take 1000 divided by 13.8 and you get your fuse rating of 72.4A.. obviously u wont find a fuse with that number but u can look for one closest to it like 80A....or to be even more accurate look for the power rating specs of your amp and use the voltage theyre using to rate your amps wattage on a load .

    How to cleanup dash after install

  • @boomboomugo
    @boomboomugo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey guys I'm new to your channel and I have to say you guys do an amazingly clean install and provide fantastic details. I know this is off topic but I figured since we're talking about wires (sort of), what would be your advice for installing some LED light strips in my car? I want them to pulse with the beat so I would install them into the output of my amp. I'm aware of the dangers of this, so I was going to place resistors in the wires. Would this work and be safe? Thanks in advance!

      boomboomugo I believe you can get a controller now that has a mic in it for that. That would be safer

    Well I ordered some of these from that website but the 1/0 do not fit my wire. The 4 awg and 8 awg fit great but neither my Stinger HPM 1/0,Rockford Fosgate 1/0 nor Sky High Car Audio wire fits in the 1/0 ferrules so idk what 1/0 wire yall use but no go for me. I'm going to contact ferrulesdirect.com about getting some that fit but I'm sure I'm gonna have to eat the cost of 4 packs of them due to return shipping cost. I didn't order the AD500016 ferrules but ordered the same exact model # in blue and Olive.

    • @FiveStarCarStereoInc

      No need to solder, if they are to hard it will strip the screws on the amp. There are crimpers you can get for the smaller wires

    Why aren't you using a crimp tool to crimp the ferrule?

    • @FiveStarCarStereoInc
      @FiveStarCarStereoInc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +I LOVE NINTENDO at the time did not think it was totally necessary. The amp usually did a good job crimping them. We have since had a change of hart. We have an updated video coming out soon.

    can i use a 5ch amp for a 3way frontstage

    • @FiveStarCarStereoInc
      @FiveStarCarStereoInc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eazy Rida I would not do it. No left and right for the mid bass.

    • @davejo2611
      @davejo2611 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that all depends on your definition of 3way.
      if you do the upper mid/high crossover as a passive, you can do a single mono sub, or get 2 5ch amps, one for L one for R

  • @pnaipo
    @pnaipo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    awesome content, and explanation of the why you use them. I just have a question, other then aesthetic purposes, is it fair to say the current travels better since all the wire is almost crimped together instead of it being squished and fanned out like the bare wire?

    • @firebirdude2
      @firebirdude2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      One could argue the opposite actually. The bare wire conforms to the inside of the amp terminals better than the stiff ferrule. Even though the ferrule crushes down, it doesn't conform like thousands of tiny wires do. So there's a possibly for less connection surface, thereby less current transfer. Of course, we're talking about 2% difference over a 1" distance. Beyond miniscule. LOL

    • @justinmurphy2227
      @justinmurphy2227 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      firebirdude2 if anything with it being miniscule why not use it since it's a lot neater and there's no wires showing at all? no matter what overtime between the vehicle moving and bass playing the insulation will always back down and wire will show making it look awful. I don't know about you but I do not like that look. why not just use a ferrule that gives you a neat clean install whether it's more current or not delivered?

      Five Star Car Stereo install ??? I have a 07 avalanche , been thinking speakers under the rear seat you'll gave me some great ideals .. my question is , have you install the center console sub box in and truck or SUV , wondering how it may sound compared to the under rear seats sub box ..

    • @FiveStarCarStereoInc
      @FiveStarCarStereoInc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tonyoneandonly Smith yes we have done both. The under seat is going to be loader. That is unless you are going to build a new console. If you are going custom console, not trying to fit it in the factory console, then that would be loader. You could build a bigger box for a full sized 12.

  • @alanbrown397
    @alanbrown397 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why aren't you crimping the ferrules? (You're supposed to do this and crimps will cold weld over time, with contact pressures over a few hundred tons per square inch)
    Regarding the comment about the temptation to solder wire ends:
    Never _ever_ solder a wire that's under a screw terminal or in a crimp. The solder will creep over time leading to a bad connection - which will either give you electrical noise (for signal wires) or a fire (for power wires). I saw a multi=million dollar satellite ground station get burned up because installers did this. Cleanup took months.

    So you don't solder it and you don't crimp it right
