As a long time Mafia fan I was super excited for this game. The story is amazing, my favorite part is that Vito is in the game and some of Mafia 2's loose ends are tied up. However, for some reason I get a huge Watch Dogs feel while playing this game.
I have played almost 10 hours and i have to say it is an amazing game, yes it has its problems, the frame drops and the bugs but as a whole i would highly recommend it

You know what’s sad?, that the story, setting and characters were so good and the game itself didn’t do it any justice, devs were so lazy on gameplay, all copy and paste. This game could’ve been even better but they just played it “safe” one of the best things about mafia 2 was that every day and mission was tailor made. If they would’ve gone with the same format like mafia 1 We would’ve enjoyed it more.
What about all the bugs, and how the game looks. I still get visual bugs and it baffles me that they haven't fixed theses yet. Combat is pretty engaging, on hard difficulty. The driving feels pretty good, on simulation. I feel as if you don't do these tweaks to your game it becomes more of a boring grind. The game has too many issues that I just gave up on the story and only played for driving/Combat. And if the story was actually engaging then I wouldn't have skipped all the cutscenes. Its more like a good premise with a bad execution. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AFTER 3 YEARS IT IS STILL UNDER COOKED
As long as it’s really engaging and immersive then I don’t mind if it’s short like mafia 2. That experience was awesome. Really liked the playboy collection thing and the music and the eras.

You're either blocked off by Crocodile filled water, or fences too large for you to climb -No fast travel - For a big map, you'd think they would've made a fast travel system. NOPE -Only a few cars are worth even driving - Also, when you wreck, everything goes crazy and weird. Rating: 6.9 out of 10 - It's worth the 60 dollars, but if you're unsure, wait till it drops to 40
Things I hated about Mafia 3 1) Limited to holding only two weapons. 2) Can't customize cars like in Mafia 2 3) Your unable to change your appearance. 4) Can't interact with a lot of things like in Mafia 2. Ex. Opening the hood of your car, drinking a soda to replenish health, or being able to go to a restaurant and buy some damn food. 5) Alot of the playboy magazines are the same from Mafia 2. There's some new one's, but FUUCCKKKK!!!

After playing around 90 hours I convinced myself that this game is actually no way near as bad as everyone depicts it and doesn't deserve many of the negative reviews. I actually loved it and found it way better then expected (because of the negative reviews) What I enjoyed the most: - story - cutscenes - dialogues - characters - music - cover system - stealth ability - brutal executions - combat - character movement and physics - shooting - cars - driving - 60s atmosphere - lighting system - graphics (overall are great with some important minuses) - inventory system (call for backups, ammo, kickbacks, cut the phone lines, police dispatcher) - the city - police and witness detection - and so many other details What I really disliked: - the cutscenes are pre rendered and don't match the weather and clothes you are wearing - Maybe what I disliked the most: sometimes the storyline becomes hard to follow and is complicated with tons of side characters (English is not my first language, that might be a reason) and sometimes I end up confused about who's who and what am I doing and why? - some minor bugs and system crashes (that actually were not so often) - repetitiveness of the missions (sometimes can become dull and boring) - blurry and washed out colors (even though the graphics were not bad overall) I think this game would have been so damn good if it was given a little more attention, care and polish. Overall I'd rate this game 8/10
More fps is better of course ;) But I personally don't get eye cancer from playing with 30fps after playing a 60fps game for a long time. I just don't get it, how people wouldn't play a game, only because its 30 fps O.o

Filthy Prank'd Sincerely i don't want to spoil anything. It's good enough to play it (i'm on PC, don't know how it is on console). It is repetitive in a cheap generic way of "kill unknown guys, kill their generic boss". You'll find yourself playing through main missions asking yourself "did i just play a main mission or was it a side quest for the mission?". Feel free to ignore me and enjoy the shit out of it. If you played mafia 2 you'll find yourself expecting more of what we've got out of mafia 3. That's all. No hate involved.
I agree the whole game is made up of side quests and then once you spend a shit ton of hours on these repetitve quests then you get the main story mission. Tbh I was expecting more like most of the mission are the same changing enemy factions, different boss name, and different location. Im sick of games, that have these type of missions.

Its repetition is cheap in every way. I have the game on my PS4, and it's pretty good, but yeah, after Mafia II, I expected much more. Yeah man its a good game story wise it's not a terrible game I just don't see why they have to do repetitive missions I mean the activities are boring. I didn't kind for awhile but then when you start getting up to the end it's the same shit.

What are you talking about my dude. The game is... Not good. I'll get this out of the way. Yes the story is interesting as fuck and I'm only a couple hours in but the performance is shit. The graphics are underwhelming for a game like this. The 30fps cap on pc sucks dick. There's so many glitches and bugs. The AI is pretty dam bad. Don't even bother playing on normal. I like the music, they did that correctly at least as well as the dialog. It sucks for me to say this but I don't really like how this game turned out. The story is really good so far but with the other issues, it's just hard to fully enjoy. I feel like if they delayed it 6-12 months it would've been even better. The gameplay and performance just doesn't do this game(story) justice at all. It hurts it. This is a 100% unbiased opinion.
i absolutley agree with you. the atmosphere and music are top notch but gameplay, graphics and framerate.,.it's really not good at all. not to mention the many bugs it has. i can almost say it is unplayable..
i haven't touched pc gaming since 2003 back when i was almost a baby all these people complaining about graphics have modded a game in some way and shape of form to get realistic textures 4k and 100 fps and im just sitting here with my xbox 360 thinking 720p 30fps is a great feature, mafia 3 and gta 5 (xbox 360) is no exception kiss my ass PC gamers

Its 2024, I brought the game for 8 bucks on sale and this is by far the best game I've played this year. Great story, missions don't feel repetitive or pointless, and the sound track is amazing. One of the first things I do with most video games is mute the music. This game is now the gold standard for music in-game. I know I'm 7/8 years late but this game is a gem.
I'm just starting. I heard get game got a lot of hate but I dont know why. I find the graphics are great, I'm not gonna call them bad because I can't do any better or anything at all related to graphics, the movement I thought felt amazing and the driving is hard but I enjoy it

Mafia 1 hasnt aged well at all. The story is great, but the graphics, animation, textures, environments and gameplay are outdated. Mafia 2 on the other hand has aged much better since its not as old and its much more graphically pleasing. Plus, Mafia 2's mechanics are way smoother and not clunky like Mafia 1's.

I really enjoy it. It has flaws, but the story is great, the soundtrack is amazing, the gunplay and combat feels crunchy and satisfying, and with the patches and DLC , it's a good, solid game.
The thing he forgot to mention is there is no fast travel in mafia 3 so you basically have to drive all over the map to different objectives, so if the driving not smooth, it can get aggravating. I remember having to drive for 10 - 30 mins in mafia 2 cause like he said the car were slow and that definitely sour the thrill to a hit on someone.

It doesn't feel as heavy as GTA 4 and Mafia 2 , but it is far more heavy then GTA 5 and watch dogs, I feel that it's nice in the middle in between them. about the grafiqs part I have to totally agree though. Its a mixed bag of really beautiful in doors parts but sometimes ugly textures parts outside. But i don't really care about it to be honest
Great vid, but my biggest con to mafia 3 that wasn't mentioned was the lack of activities to do, you cant buy food or drink, get a shoeshine, order food at a diner, play with the jukebox, car wash, gas station, cops dont give tickets they just shoot u, and YOU CANT SAVE CARS!!
Blame 2K who pushed the game out before it got finsihed. Now all of those things will be released in update. Maybe some of the things won't but in next Mafia will.

But that's good to hear you get to do more than just give him territories to run for you. And I hear that about the guns. WWII and cold war era are my favorite types of firearms.

I gotta call you out on this bro. everybody I know is playing this game, I've read a lot of reviews and reviews in progress, and I've played the game for over 25 hours so far, and everyone including myself all agree the mission structure is horrible. you literally do the same 3 missions for the whole game for some 30+ hours total. it got so repetetive, I get bored and have to leave then come back several hours later. I've never had to do that for a game before. sure it's fun, but so is bowling. ever bowled for 25 hours? it gets less fun. and I avidly defended this game, I heavily recommended it to people after I put in 10 hours, because I was still having fun then. 5 or 6 hours later, with only 6 of the 10 districts taken, I was appalled by how boring and repetetive this got. it was as bad as the original uncharted. cover, shoot shoot, cover shoot shoot. drive to location. cover shoot shoot. I feel really bad I recommended this game to people who are just now putting it on the shelf because of how boring it gets, I feel bad I made them waste thier money. i recommend waiting. a long time. at least until it's 30 dollars.

***** you clearly rushed through it. Most people's average playtime is 30 hours, and since I've got 2 more districts with just over 25 hours in, that checks out. So either you binge played and did everything, which nobody could, even reviewers could barely stand rushing it for reviews, or you just breezed through everything. Wire taps? Side quests for the bosses? Did you do everything for the rackets, or just what was needed to progress. If you truly did everything to get the full experience, you'd understand that it goes beyond repetetive, even the actual story missions have the same formula, go here, kill him. I won't belittle your opinion of the game, but it was boring as hell. I'm not saying it's not good, I'm not saying it's not fun, but most games are ok to sit down and play for 4 hours straight, this one not so much. Like I said, I are the mistake of recommending it too early, and I regret it. I highly recommend waiting to people, as visually, story wise, the game is worth 60. Gameplay wise, it's barely 30. Obviously they put a lot of work in it, but the only word that comes to mind is lazy. The way they took the same 3 missions, and literally re labeled them over 50 times. I'm sorry, this was not what is expected of a open world game in 2016. And it was boring.

This game is a dumb down Mafia 2 not a beefed up mafia 2! Mafia 2 had more too do, Better particle and other FX. Better Ai and the list goes on. Mafia 2 felt like a mafia game. Mafia 3 is a repetitive piece of shit that looks and plays like a beta at best.
I just started and finished this game in 2021, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Are missions rinse and repeat? Sure but they also have their own unique story behind them. My theory/opinion is that most were put off by the realism of the times regarding race issues. Lots of N-word being thrown around and certain races being portrayed in a not so great, but again realistic for its time, kind of way. I’m gonna try out the dlc since it’s free at the time of this posting.
Can you rob stores like in mafia 2? Buy food from takeaways and cafes? Are there gun stores? Can you fill petrol in cars again at gas station? Can you buy clothes like suits in mafia 2?

Dani Wiseguy well you can rob stores but it's not the same as it was in Mafia 2. I was a bit disappointed with not able to customize cars and change clothes. Working with Vito gives you that mafia 2 feel a little bit
rare Pepe graphics are good(if u play it,you won't say them bad at all),the shadows are great and while playing you will feel like ur in a 1960's drawing.

This was a really excellent review! I have played mafia since the first (along side every GTA) and I have always loved it for its differences to gta. I feel you've nailed it in the review. The only thing that I would add is the controls are odd and not intuitive. I found myself having to pause and look up how to do things like change the view when driving which interrupted the feel of the game. The first driving scene with the van/truck and the default driving view I felt I couldn't see....i totally agree re the driving. It reminded me of my disappointment when driving in watch dogs. Still it's early days and I'm sure that unlike watch dogs I won't give up on it and the story will overtake these minor disappointments.

Yep. Loved the game. Id still play it today, on PC though with mods to make the game more interesting because the game doesn't have certain features that i didn't enjoy. I also loved Tommy's story the best, better than 2 and 3 imo
I wanted to play Mafia II back when it came out but I never ended up playing more than the demo just because it wasn't on the top of my list of games to get and I was on a budget. However, I picked up Mafia III because I love storyline centered games and it looked very intriguing to me (also the writing is just fantastic, which is what I look for in movies, books, etc.). Upon having played it now since like the day after it came out, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the action. I love games that do it all out with the gore and violence and all the stealth kills and assassinations Lincoln can do (I feel) really pulls you into the grittiness of a man with so much hatred around him exacting out his vendetta on those who robbed him of everything. Not an expert reviewer or anything like you guys are but I thought it was a 10/10 in my book. Plus, I mean, who doesn't love executing Klan members with an AK, right?
tyler moran I'm enjoying it, it has issues but nothing's perfect. I'm playing it on ps4, and I have noticed some ridiculous glitches such as the light and dark fluctuates so badly, sometimes you turn the camera and it becomes night time ffs 😂 and some basic things such as mirror reflections don't show your character just make the game feel a little half done..

You left out the fact that it doesn't have the accessible gas stations that were in Mafia, or you can't get anything from civilians at all, like what's the point wasting ammo on them if you get nothing from them? otherwise yes the story is good, I just feel like they focused too much on the story and left out some very basic elements like the ones I listed. Mafia 2 and Mafia 1 are still a hell of a lot better IMO. But I really don't think it deserves the backlash it's getting though. Also I find it retarded that there are stores you can go into but you can't get anything from them, there only there to rob? What???? it's like, they forgot almost.

Personally, I loved the game. I've played it through twice. It definitely represents the period and has solid game play. I'd love to see more games just like this.
I'm here 5 years later just bought and started playing mafia 3 and am very much enjoying it. I'm actually still on the first mission and its on easy with the aim assist on but i can already see and feel the quality of this game. Thanks for the tip on buying this one. Mafia 2 on ps3 is next on my list👍

(xbox one) . it's not the best game coming this year . but still a decent game .

Also if I go on Netflix or TH-cam quickly it turns off the sound on Mafia 3. I played a demo of this 1 month ago and honestly I couldn't stop replaying it my girlfriend is getting it for my birthday this month and I'm more excited then I've been all year and this video really helped me decide on if I truly would like it or not

Am I the only one who thinks mafia 3 is incredibly repetitive? I've seen a few forums about it and I've seen people defending it saying all games are repetitive and that's what you do in the mafia etc....but no. Most games at least try to give the illusion of variation and progression. In this game you are *literally* (and never before has that word held so much weight) doing the *exact same thing* until the end game. I sat there for so many gameplay hours hoping things would shake up after a while....but no. Nothing. I couldn't believe it. It's literally the same dry gameplay loop but in different areas of the map. It's the San Andreas territory take over mission(but much more layered and in depth with multiple steps) but that and only ever that. That's all you do. Hurt the racket by stealing money, or destroying shit, lure out the boss, kill or recruit. Repeat. Then lure out the district boss. The district boss fights seem to be the only varied thing. And it's sad, cuz I enjoyed the shit out of the first few hours. That intro was honestly better than everything I'm playing right now. If the entire game was of the intro's quality, this would be a phenomenal game.
Mafia 3 is grossly underrated. An absolutely brilliant game. I didn’t like it all that much at first, but then I gave it another try and I’m SO glad I did. I’ve finished it four times over now 👏🏻

I got a good strategy to play this game when it comes to assigning your districts. It starts by making your first racket assignment, because this means that this is who you are going to give the district to. Give it to anyone of your choice but from there on out just keep assigning the rackets until you have the sit down. at this point do not give that person another district. give any other one the district. once you have given the second district give the third district you get to the person that has been neglected the previous 2 sit downs. then keep repeating this process and you will have a balanced game.

How did he not say, not even one time, that this game can be extremely repetitive? It's not even an opinion, it's total fact. Im a huge open world guy and I made it about 70% into this game until I had to call a quits cause I just couldn't stand doing the same thing over and over again. I know that most open world games can have this problem, but this game is a whole nother level. I loved the story and vibe of the game, I was actually addicted for the most part, but I was hanging on a thin string that finally broke and I had to delete it from my system before I could even finish.
I hate all this "gamer vision" shit, I don't want to be able to see through walls. No one can see through walls. It's the most un-immersive mechanic ever. If I'm playing a game set in the fucking 60s, I don't want to have high tech cancer support mechanics. It defeats the challenge of stealth games.
Nuggets I know it's not realistic, but they said it was because the character was in the army, and he can tell where people are by sound. I do kinda get annoyed as well that so many games do it for seemingly no reason other than for convenience, but at least this one has its reason
I f...ing love Mafia 3. I played it through 4 times. The driving is, well, uniquely Mafia 3. I came to enjoy the perfect match of on-the-edge driving with a dose of figuring it out. The violence was deliciously - before its time. The DLC was totally worth it. I nearly shit my pants in one episode in a spooky house. I came to really enjoy the way Lincoln moved around in battle. I found the weapons to be a tad limiting, but realistic. I know it is a mixed bag, but it a game that is easy to love.
MY REVIEW ON THE GAME: ***THUMBS DOWN*** So the game wasn't launching on steam. Therefore, I got a refund and got it from a different source. I won't mention the 30 fps lock because there will be an update regarding that, there are very few graphical options and the game still doesn't look clean at maxed settings. I wondered why the game is so blurry and why it can’t be fixed by any patch. They simply made it with year 2000 textures. Most of them do not exceed 512×512 pixels in resolution. Meh. That really makes me sad and disappointed; I was really looking forward toward this game, but they have disappointed me with the graphics, voice acting. They didn't look at the small details and try to make the game more authentic e.g. when an enemy talk from 15m anywhere around you it will sound like they are right next to you. Otherwise, the story is GREAT, just wished took longer with this game and made it better.

I like the game very much, it's fun as hell. Stealth, shooting and brutal takedowns are amazing. Slightly bad graphics, bugs and missing fast travel option are the only cons I can think of.
Watching this because I'm playing through it again. I never really understood the hate that this game got. One of my favorite games from the Xbox One & PS4 generation.
I actually really loved this game. Got the collector's edition for 30€ because it sold so poorly. The story, music and atmosphere are so great and I really enjoyed the gameplay. It lacked on variety, but I was pretty much okay with that.
this game is like a guy making soup and his soup is insanely delicious and people come to his place only for his soup but he sees a big "burger restaurant" across the street, making 10 times money than his and he says "fuck the soup i'll start making burger like him so i can make more money" guess what happens he losses every thing because the second restaurant is actually pretty good at making burger and your burger is crap :( no you've guessed wrong ! he made more money !!! because we live in a filthy world and people are basterds enough that they would buy this crap burger anyway and throught it away and the soup was lost
your right almost.......except mafia 3 wouldv made the same amount of money regardless......due to the previous success with the soup. mafia 4 on the other hand will NOT make as much money compared to if the guy stuck with making soups. if the guy had stuck with making soups, mafia 4 would make ton of money. but now it wont. so actually we guessed right. he will not make more money.
LOL no mention of the repetitive gameplay? If you're going to be a "before you buy" you need to at least try to be as objective as possible. No one cares for a "hey i liked it" video. Those videos are useless.

You simply dont want to use anyones POV but your own (that isn't objectively reviewing a game). You simply dont want to admit it because you're probably a sellout (i hope not). BigfryTV explained it in his review (go watch it...he knows what hes talking about). The same rinse and repeat gameplay and that its too rinse and repeat. And it is true. Its a fact that its true. Whether or not you like RR gameplay is up to you, but in terms of reviewing the game itself objectively, its something you have to consider for the gamers that watch your channel. The main story is good, but the silliness of the repetitive gameplay matters when determining if its good over any other game. This game simply isn't anything new or amazing. Even if the game is 30+ hours, it does matter what you spend those 30 hours doing.
...Repetition isn't an opinion. It's a thing that is. The game has you doing the EXACT same things over and over and over and you never noticed that? Really? You never noticed how they reuse the exact same environments for the mini-bosses of the areas either? Also "collecting is good, you never feel like your dicking around, everything you do is in service of Lincon Clay's goal". So collecting auto magazines, random pieces of art and wiretaps from the trash of which there are a million of isn't "dicking around" huh? Right. Poorly written and absolute trash "review". Be honest, how much did they pay you for this advertisement.
After putting about 8hours into it. This game is not a mafia game. The reptitive boring go from point A to B shoot generic guys then return to mission issuer and repeat. The cutscenes are great but overall greatly disappointed. 4/10
TheZelda360 i played mafia 1 back in the day (What a hard game for 8-9 years old me) never played mafia 2 until a week ago when i found it for 20$ in a store and said "why not?" Haven't finish it yet but i am having a great time. Best 20$ ever
Thanks so much for this video. Amongst the negatives you pointed out I want to add the fast travel: It doesnt exist lol. Fortunately the map is small, but it can be annoying because some missions have you go here, only to go there, only to go here and there and at the end, you HAVE to go all the way across the map to reconvene. It wouldve been nice for a fast travel at this point. Not a game breaker and I love the story and game but just an annoyance I wanted to mention,. Yeah the game out had a great foundation. Great story, location and boss fights were cool. But shit graphics. Also wish they added things in the game to make it more dynamic.

As a long time Mafia fan I was super excited for this game. The story is amazing, my favorite part is that Vito is in the game and some of Mafia 2's loose ends are tied up. However, for some reason I get a huge Watch Dogs feel while playing this game.

You know what’s sad?, that the story, setting and characters were so good and the game itself didn’t do it any justice, devs were so lazy on gameplay, all copy and paste. This game could’ve been even better but they just played it “safe” one of the best things about mafia 2 was that every day and mission was tailor made. If they would’ve gone with the same format like mafia 1 We would’ve enjoyed it more.

What about all the bugs, and how the game looks. I still get visual bugs and it baffles me that they haven't fixed theses yet. Combat is pretty engaging, on hard difficulty. The driving feels pretty good, on simulation.
I feel as if you don't do these tweaks to your game it becomes more of a boring grind. The game has too many issues that I just gave up on the story and only played for driving/Combat. And if the story was actually engaging then I wouldn't have skipped all the cutscenes. Its more like a good premise with a bad execution.

1) Limited to holding only two weapons.
2) Can't customize cars like in Mafia 2
3) Your unable to change your appearance.

After playing around 90 hours I convinced myself that this game is actually no way near as bad as everyone depicts it and doesn't deserve many of the negative reviews.
I actually loved it and found it way better then expected (because of the negative reviews)

- lighting system
- graphics (overall are great with some important minuses)
- inventory system (call for backups, ammo, kickbacks, cut the phone lines, police dispatcher)
- the city
- police and witness detection
- and so many other details
What I really disliked:
- the cutscenes are pre rendered and don't match the weather and clothes you are wearing
- Maybe what I disliked the most: sometimes the storyline becomes hard to follow and is complicated with tons of side characters (English is not my first language, that might be a reason) and sometimes I end up confused about who's who and what am I doing and why?
- some minor bugs and system crashes (that actually were not so often)
- repetitiveness of the missions (sometimes can become dull and boring)
- blurry and washed out colors (even though the graphics were not bad overall)
I think this game would have been so damn good if it was given a little more attention, care and polish.
Overall I'd rate this game 8/10

Filthy Prank'd Sincerely i don't want to spoil anything. It's good enough to play it (i'm on PC, don't know how it is on console). It is repetitive in a cheap generic way of "kill unknown guys, kill their generic boss". You'll find yourself playing through main missions asking yourself "did i just play a main mission or was it a side quest for the mission?". Feel free to ignore me and enjoy the shit out of it. If you played mafia 2 you'll find yourself expecting more of what we've got out of mafia 3. That's all. No hate involved.
I agree the whole game is made up of side quests and then once you spend a shit ton of hours on these repetitve quests then you get the main story mission. Tbh I was expecting more like most of the mission are the same changing enemy factions, different boss name, and different location. Im sick of games, that have these type of missions.

I'll get this out of the way. Yes the story is interesting as fuck and I'm only a couple hours in but the performance is shit. The graphics are underwhelming for a game like this. The 30fps cap on pc sucks dick. There's so many glitches and bugs. The AI is pretty dam bad. Don't even bother playing on normal.
I like the music, they did that correctly at least as well as the dialog.
It sucks for me to say this but I don't really like how this game turned out. The story is really good so far but with the other issues, it's just hard to fully enjoy.
I feel like if they delayed it 6-12 months it would've been even better. The gameplay and performance just doesn't do this game(story) justice at all. It hurts it.

Its 2024, I brought the game for 8 bucks on sale and this is by far the best game I've played this year. Great story, missions don't feel repetitive or pointless, and the sound track is amazing. One of the first things I do with most video games is mute the music. This game is now the gold standard for music in-game. I know I'm 7/8 years late but this game is a gem.

Mafia 1 hasnt aged well at all. The story is great, but the graphics, animation, textures, environments and gameplay are outdated. Mafia 2 on the other hand has aged much better since its not as old and its much more graphically pleasing. Plus, Mafia 2's mechanics are way smoother and not clunky like Mafia 1's.

I really enjoy it. It has flaws, but the story is great, the soundtrack is amazing, the gunplay and combat feels crunchy and satisfying, and with the patches and DLC , it's a good, solid game.
If you want better car driving, then just switch to simulation goddamnit!

That setting was also in Mafia II, which i think is a nice choice to have.
The thing he forgot to mention is there is no fast travel in mafia 3 so you basically have to drive all over the map to different objectives, so if the driving not smooth, it can get aggravating. I remember having to drive for 10 - 30 mins in mafia 2 cause like he said the car were slow and that definitely sour the thrill to a hit on someone.

great video, but i totally disagree with the driving. It doesn't feel as heavy as GTA 4 and Mafia 2 , but it is far more heavy then GTA 5 and watch dogs, I feel that it's nice in the middle in between them.
about the grafiqs part I have to totally agree though. Its a mixed bag of really beautiful in doors parts but sometimes ugly textures parts outside. But i don't really care about it to be honest

Great vid, but my biggest con to mafia 3 that wasn't mentioned was the lack of activities to do, you cant buy food or drink, get a shoeshine, order food at a diner, play with the jukebox, car wash, gas station, cops dont give tickets they just shoot u, and YOU CANT SAVE CARS!!
Blame 2K who pushed the game out before it got finsihed. Now all of those things will be released in update. Maybe some of the things won't but in next Mafia will.

I appreciate the input man :) I was honestly a bit disinterested in buying it since it seemed like they were basically demoting Vito and making him a sideline character. But that's good to hear you get to do more than just give him territories to run for you. And I hear that about the guns. WWII and cold war era are my favorite types of firearms.

Hi Jake, thanks a lot for the Before You Buy review. I just downloaded the Mafia III ps4 demo last night and it blew me away! The story, music and the driving is amazing... I'll definitely save up some money to buy the full version. PS: to fully enjoy the driving, set the driving option to simulation.

I gotta call you out on this bro. everybody I know is playing this game, I've read a lot of reviews and reviews in progress, and I've played the game for over 25 hours so far, and everyone including myself all agree the mission structure is horrible. you literally do the same 3 missions for the whole game for some 30+ hours total. it got so repetetive, I get bored and have to leave then come back several hours later. I've never had to do that for a game before. sure it's fun, but so is bowling. ever bowled for 25 hours? it gets less fun. and I avidly defended this game, I heavily recommended it to people after I put in 10 hours, because I was still having fun then. 5 or 6 hours later, with only 6 of the 10 districts taken, I was appalled by how boring and repetetive this got. it was as bad as the original uncharted. cover, shoot shoot, cover shoot shoot. drive to location. cover shoot shoot. I feel really bad I recommended this game to people who are just now putting it on the shelf because of how boring it gets, I feel bad I made them waste thier money. i recommend waiting. a long time. at least until it's 30 dollars.

***** you clearly rushed through it. Most people's average playtime is 30 hours, and since I've got 2 more districts with just over 25 hours in, that checks out. So either you binge played and did everything, which nobody could, even reviewers could barely stand rushing it for reviews, or you just breezed through everything. Wire taps? Side quests for the bosses? Did you do everything for the rackets, or just what was needed to progress. If you truly did everything to get the full experience, you'd understand that it goes beyond repetetive, even the actual story missions have the same formula, go here, kill him. I won't belittle your opinion of the game, but it was boring as hell. I'm not saying it's not good, I'm not saying it's not fun, but most games are ok to sit down and play for 4 hours straight, this one not so much. Like I said, I are the mistake of recommending it too early, and I regret it. I highly recommend waiting to people, as visually, story wise, the game is worth 60. Gameplay wise, it's barely 30. Obviously they put a lot of work in it, but the only word that comes to mind is lazy. The way they took the same 3 missions, and literally re labeled them over 50 times. I'm sorry, this was not what is expected of a open world game in 2016. And it was boring.

I just started and finished this game in 2021, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Are missions rinse and repeat? Sure but they also have their own unique story behind them. My theory/opinion is that most were put off by the realism of the times regarding race issues. Lots of N-word being thrown around and certain races being portrayed in a not so great, but again realistic for its time, kind of way. I’m gonna try out the dlc since it’s free at the time of this posting.

This was a really excellent review! I have played mafia since the first (along side every GTA) and I have always loved it for its differences to gta. I feel you've nailed it in the review. The only thing that I would add is the controls are odd and not intuitive. I found myself having to pause and look up how to do things like change the view when driving which interrupted the feel of the game. The first driving scene with the van/truck and the default driving view I felt I couldn't see....i totally agree re the driving. It reminded me of my disappointment when driving in watch dogs. Still it's early days and I'm sure that unlike watch dogs I won't give up on it and the story will overtake these minor disappointments.

I wanted to play Mafia II back when it came out but I never ended up playing more than the demo just because it wasn't on the top of my list of games to get and I was on a budget. However, I picked up Mafia III because I love storyline centered games and it looked very intriguing to me (also the writing is just fantastic, which is what I look for in movies, books, etc.). Upon having played it now since like the day after it came out, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the action. I love games that do it all out with the gore and violence and all the stealth kills and assassinations Lincoln can do (I feel) really pulls you into the grittiness of a man with so much hatred around him exacting out his vendetta on those who robbed him of everything. Not an expert reviewer or anything like you guys are but I thought it was a 10/10 in my book. Plus, I mean, who doesn't love executing Klan members with an AK, right?

tyler moran I'm enjoying it, it has issues but nothing's perfect. I'm playing it on ps4, and I have noticed some ridiculous glitches such as the light and dark fluctuates so badly, sometimes you turn the camera and it becomes night time ffs 😂 and some basic things such as mirror reflections don't show your character just make the game feel a little half done..

You left out the fact that it doesn't have the accessible gas stations that were in Mafia, or you can't get anything from civilians at all, like what's the point wasting ammo on them if you get nothing from them? otherwise yes the story is good, I just feel like they focused too much on the story and left out some very basic elements like the ones I listed. Mafia 2 and Mafia 1 are still a hell of a lot better IMO. But I really don't think it deserves the backlash it's getting though. Also I find it retarded that there are stores you can go into but you can't get anything from them, there only there to rob? What???? it's like, they forgot almost.

Am I the only one who thinks mafia 3 is incredibly repetitive? I've seen a few forums about it and I've seen people defending it saying all games are repetitive and that's what you do in the mafia etc....but no. Most games at least try to give the illusion of variation and progression. In this game you are *literally* (and never before has that word held so much weight) doing the *exact same thing* until the end game. I sat there for so many gameplay hours hoping things would shake up after a while....but no. Nothing. I couldn't believe it. It's literally the same dry gameplay loop but in different areas of the map. It's the San Andreas territory take over mission(but much more layered and in depth with multiple steps) but that and only ever that. That's all you do. Hurt the racket by stealing money, or destroying shit, lure out the boss, kill or recruit. Repeat. Then lure out the district boss. The district boss fights seem to be the only varied thing.
And it's sad, cuz I enjoyed the shit out of the first few hours. That intro was honestly better than everything I'm playing right now. If the entire game was of the intro's quality, this would be a phenomenal game.

Mafia 3 is grossly underrated. An absolutely brilliant game. I didn’t like it all that much at first, but then I gave it another try and I’m SO glad I did. I’ve finished it four times over now 👏🏻

I got a good strategy to play this game when it comes to assigning your districts. It starts by making your first racket assignment, because this means that this is who you are going to give the district to. Give it to anyone of your choice but from there on out just keep assigning the rackets until you have the sit down. at this point do not give that person another district. give any other one the district. once you have given the second district give the third district you get to the person that has been neglected the previous 2 sit downs. then keep repeating this process and you will have a balanced game.
I wonder if this game will take the Guinness World Record for the amount of times the N-word is used in a video game. Mafia 2 is holding one for the most amount of times the word "fuck" is used, after all.

How did he not say, not even one time, that this game can be extremely repetitive? It's not even an opinion, it's total fact. Im a huge open world guy and I made it about 70% into this game until I had to call a quits cause I just couldn't stand doing the same thing over and over again. I know that most open world games can have this problem, but this game is a whole nother level. I loved the story and vibe of the game, I was actually addicted for the most part, but I was hanging on a thin string that finally broke and I had to delete it from my system before I could even finish.

I f...ing love Mafia 3. I played it through 4 times. The driving is, well, uniquely Mafia 3. I came to enjoy the perfect match of on-the-edge driving with a dose of figuring it out. The violence was deliciously - before its time. The DLC was totally worth it. I nearly shit my pants in one episode in a spooky house. I came to really enjoy the way Lincoln moved around in battle. I found the weapons to be a tad limiting, but realistic. I know it is a mixed bag, but it a game that is easy to love.

So the game wasn't launching on steam. Therefore, I got a refund and got it from a different source. I won't mention the 30 fps lock because there will be an update regarding that, there are very few graphical options and the game still doesn't look clean at maxed settings. I wondered why the game is so blurry and why it can’t be fixed by any patch. They simply made it with year 2000 textures. Most of them do not exceed 512×512 pixels in resolution. Meh. That really makes me sad and disappointed; I was really looking forward toward this game, but they have disappointed me with the graphics, voice acting. They didn't look at the small details and try to make the game more authentic e.g. when an enemy talk from 15m anywhere around you it will sound like they are right next to you. Otherwise, the story is GREAT, just wished took longer with this game and made it better.

I like the game very much, it's fun as hell. Stealth, shooting and brutal takedowns are amazing. Slightly bad graphics, bugs and missing fast travel option are the only cons I can think of.

I actually really loved this game. Got the collector's edition for 30€ because it sold so poorly. The story, music and atmosphere are so great and I really enjoyed the gameplay. It lacked on variety, but I was pretty much okay with that.

Whether or not you like RR gameplay is up to you, but in terms of reviewing the game itself objectively, its something you have to consider for the gamers that watch your channel.
The main story is good, but the silliness of the repetitive gameplay matters when determining if its good over any other game. This game simply isn't anything new or amazing.
Even if the game is 30+ hours, it does matter what you spend those 30 hours doing.

After putting about 8hours into it. This game is not a mafia game. The reptitive boring go from point A to B shoot generic guys then return to mission issuer and repeat. The cutscenes are great but overall greatly disappointed. 4/10

Thanks so much for this video. Amongst the negatives you pointed out I want to add the fast travel: It doesnt exist lol. Fortunately the map is small, but it can be annoying because some missions have you go here, only to go there, only to go here and there and at the end, you HAVE to go all the way across the map to reconvene. It wouldve been nice for a fast travel at this point. Not a game breaker and I love the story and game but just an annoyance I wanted to mention,.
