    Big thanks to the Methow chapter of the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance! You can support the Methow chapter here: www.evergreenmtb.org/chapters...
    These modern “flow” trails are more and more prevalent as they allow newer riders to feel the sensation of speed without needing to be concerned about rocks, roots, or other hazards. These trails have served their purpose well, growing the sport immensely. As a result, we’ve all enjoyed the benefits- a bigger sport means more options when it comes to bikes, it means better quality bikes, and it means more members to boost up our advocacy efforts. Once we support our advocates, we begin to have a louder voice when it comes to securing more trails.
    Personally, while I appreciate the work and results of the flow trails, I’m more interested in backcountry trails that have not been as manipulated by mankind. However, these are quite hard to find in this day and age! Per the suggestion of a viewer, I wanted to try Thomspon and get a feel for it. Clearly, A LOT of energy has gone into this trail! I had a great ride, and look forwards to riding more in the Winthrop area.

      personally those are the worst type of trails, firstly you can hurt hikers if you are going too fast at the wrong sections or hikers are just being plain dumb and climbing up downhill trails and blocking way

      @@cinnamonpd1116 proper back county trails you don't see that many hikers, and where I live there's only one bike only trail and so every other trail you ride is covered in hikers. If im gonna hit a hiker it's not gonna be on a back county hiking trail.

    When I started mountain biking there were no flow trails, in fact there were no "mountain bike trails", bike videos, or guidebooks. Now days people are disappointed if they don't have GPS coordinates for the trailhead!

      Imho Jeff is lucky not to carry too much mass, I think it helpes him squeeze the most out of those turns. That, and years of practice. I’m also sure he has had his share of spills to find his limits.

    Hey Jeff, I rode Leavenworth this summer in the dust and I am struggling to adapt my PNW riding experience (wet, mud, slick) to the dust. I've had a few corners I've washed out in and injured myself and now I am overly shy about cornering in dust. Can you offer any advice or tips?

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Lars, I hear ya on that! Changing conditions is tough!!! First up, bike set up is easy, I made this whole video about EXACTLY this: th-cam.com/video/YiW-NMSElNs/w-d-xo.html. Beyond that, my cornering technique comes from years of dry California riding. I rarely trust the front wheel to not slide, which is why I get so far back and down and then pull backwards on the bars through the turns. These mellow berms are IMO some of the hardest corners possible. They are so hardpack that your tires can't dig in much, preventing proper bike lean, but they are so flat that they don't support a true "berm rail" technique. Here's some info on my general cornering style: th-cam.com/video/4WnV4FwedJQ/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Jeff, on most of the bermed turns, your handlebars looked angled down towards the inside of the turn, while it looks like the horizon is still level. Does that mean you were leaning more bike with upright body despite the turns looking like they all had some berm support? More generally, when you approach a turn, do you decide before the turn if you’re going to lean with the bike (ala Flow trail at Demo) vs leaning the bike while staying upright? Or do you adjust the lean mid-turn on the fly depending on feel/traction of the trail as you carve thru it? Thx!! Jack

    That you can smell or not smell smoke doesn’t deem it safe/unsafe. Check out the AQI. Realize some things in regards to AQI too! Know where the monitor is as it could be several cities over or farther. The AQI reported doesn’t mean that it’s uniformly distributed; there’ll be pockets of lower & higher AQI. Also understand those numbers are considered for a person at rest and normally breathing, not someone engaged in physical activity, breathing harder, more deeply, and at a higher rate. If not be safe, make an informed decision.

      Sorry! I tried to not have any peaking throughout, but my new audio recorder doesn't have a manual gain set, it only auto gains, so sometimes the settings it grabs are simply too loud. This is noticeable when I cut from shot to shot and the ambient noise levels are different. We'll see how many more folks it affects, but I've been posting videos with this recorder for a month now and most feedback is positive. I think it's better to have the slightly different sound shot-to-shot, as that provides a nice little bit of dynamic scene change. The old audio was so constant and flat it wasn't as attention-grabbing.

    EBIKES…If you can’t pedal up w your own fitness, and you’re new/unskilled MTBer, you shouldN’T ride single/double track on an ebike. The time it takes to build one’s fitness to get to the top, where the DH becomes more of a challenge in regards to fitness, strength, and skill, is the time you need to develop what’s required to descend safely and not rip up the trail. Unskilled ebikers, with their heavy bikes and typically heavier bodies and now these super fat giant tires some are out on, are ripping up the trails. A skilled MTBer can have at it on an ebike, w normal sized tires, wherever s/he desires, but the rest should stick to the fireroads. This is coming from my perspective of being disabled and so I greatly struggle up the climbs, slowly add miles, vert, and technical.
