Those are my favorite 4 also. Descending, Pneuma, Invincible then 7empest. For me personally. But they always show their genius in all 4 of them. Personally, Danny Carey is worth watching any day and twice on Sunday. But together and individually, they are all amazing artists and from what I gather, from interviews and gossip is that they are humble, yet strong in their convictions and care about everyone and everything. They are so unique and probably even misunderstood. I’ve been a fan since high school early 90’s. Seen them live many many many times. Fear Inoculum is more of an idealistic word play while setting a specific tone. I think, it will blow his mind when he hears one and all of the album. Also, agree, listen to album of Pneuma then watch live drum cam by Vic Firth of the song Pneuma. Anyways, sorry long comment. Just a fan and enjoy hearing you all. Hope everyone enjoys and is kind to one another.
This is my favorite song off this album. I think it checks off every box I'd have for what works for me musically. Mind you, I think ALL the songs on this album are great. And any of them could be someone's favorite, but this is the one I return to the most.

I ‘heard’ this one as a play on fake news, perhaps even Facebook. Being better than eating what you are fed incessantly. Now on the topic of the pandemic, Descending was hitting for me in that way. It’s elementary, muster every fiber, mobilize, Stay Alive!
Your "rant" was spot on and intriguing~ I do recommend you to watch some tool shows from the mid 90's on your own and see how Maynard lets the music move him around
I’m almost jealous, (but super pumped for you) that you’re hearing this for the first time! I stayed up to catch the release on Spotify and had a great night listening to the album. Love the videos dude!
Saw them live in Atlanta last year and they opened with this. Seeing it live gave me a new appreciation of this song. If you like the album version, it’s even better live.
For sure! Hell, It still is every time I listen to it on LSD. I had my biggest trip of all time by doing a heroic dose then letting this album launch me into my mind, the true purpose of some of these songs are going to remain hidden for a long time.
I'm 54 years old and have listened to Tool for 30 years, while the long hiatus took place I longed for new Tool and was concerned that it would never be the same, that the light they had captured may have faded, that they may have changed as men, I mean 13 years is a long time and literally almost 30 years after they started.....but BOOM.......this album is thee masterpiece we all waited for, they are without a doubt the most cerebral and thought out band ever, Maynard is truly the greatest lyricist of all time, and how poignant the lyrics to this song became in 2020....they opened with this on the ensuing tour and then the fear, venom and mania shut it and everything down....and as the world inoculates from Covid....Maynard had already inoculated from fear, venom and mania.......what a wise man, the production is insane, and 59 year old Danny Carey takes no prisoners....that sound you were describing as a harp or the plucking sound is actually Danny on his electronic pads.......this has been a great journey with you and we are all so glad you found Tool....enjoy this album brother
I think it's great when you add your thoughts and feelings. No way would I skip through it. My favorites on this album are Descending, 7empest, and Invincible. I like Pneuma too, but I've watched the Danny drum cam reactions to it so much that I'm kind of burnt out on it. However, I do hope you do that one too. I'll definitely be here for it!
@@ameliacharles7119 The breaks have regenerated completely. There's a lot of discomfort still though with walking/standing on my feet too long and swelling. Not even glad you liked it, knew you would based on every other vid. This was such a perfect fit for an album opening, set the tone without showing off all the tricks the album employed. Is it next Tuesday yet?
My mom was a big Tool fan. She would always ask me for updates on the new album. Unfortunately, she didn't make it to the next album. She would have loved it, because Lateralus was her favorite.
Sorry to hear. Carry on her Tool fandum legacy. They’re amazing and I’m positive so was your mom. Be kind to yourself and best wishes. Hopefully this Album will help you feel her and enjoy it together. Peace and love.
Love your "long rant" towards the back half of the video. I've felt that movement of energy many times and feel it strongly with Tool songs. If I allow myself to sink into the music enough I find myself almost spinning as different parts of my body move in different timings and rhythms. Love that bit of analysis my guy!
Thanks for doing these videos. I’ve been listening to tool since 1993, so to experience them “new” through another listener is invaluable. You picked up right away on the quality of sound on this album...it’s the sound I kind of hoped they would eventually arrive to..And they did!

Followed you through the journey. Happy you have arrived at the last album. All tool albums represent a position within the life of a character. This album is the aspirational future for the spiritually awakened being. The whole world will open once we recognize that we are all one.
I've been listening to this album since it came out, probably heard it over a couple hundred times now lol. My ranking of the songs goes 1) Invincible 2) Descending 3) Pneuma 4) 7empest 5) Culling Voices 6) Fear Inoculum 7) CCT. I will also say there isn't one song I don't like, they are all 10/10.
The theme of this whole album struck me as about their fears of coming back 13 years later and still being relevant or successful or whatever myriad of inflictions we as humans can suffer from that lowers our self confidence. Sure seems like this first song on the album inoculated them from their fears the rest of it. This song coming out not long before the pandemic also made it feel a bit prophetic to me.
Check out Primus! They are Catchy, interesting, weird, rhythmically awesome and intricate. I think the Anti-Pop album is a good place to start but Sailing the Seas of Cheese is fantastic!
8 of those years were tied up in legal crap. They made great use of it, though. This is simply the introduction of what’s to come. Happy you’re digging it! Each track is an eargasm. 😇
It's probably the reverberating versión from the recording that we are getting, so he was most likely listening to the Spotify ... And this audio is just the feedback from the program used to record.
Your comparisons to Tai Chi and The rhythms of the music are spot-on. I guess that's why I find myself doing Tai Chi like dance moves when listening to the Fear Inoculum songs. I dont know exactly where they come from but it definitely feels like some very sacred place...
Movement within a Tool song is really good, the different rhythms makes you want to move different body parts like the shoulders and the hips at the different rhythms but it’s the same.
When you listen to Invincible hear it in the context of them (a hugely popular band) releasing an album after a break of 13 years. The song is the ultimate metaphor for their state of mind. A once great warrior "...struggling to remain consequential". They must have been concerned that maybe the world moved on and they wouldn't be relevant anymore. Well, now we all know that couldn't be farther from the truth with this album. They are more than relevant, they are literally setting the bar so high that others are now becoming irrelevant. They are the epitome of the quote "Beware the old man in a profession where men usually die young." Love this band!!!!!!
Also your “rant” is exactly what we know to be true. Feeling music through our physical bodies, especially when they aren’t what we predict and instead suggest to us a different route (one closer to connection with ourselves and inherently all that surrounds us), is exactly what Tool is about. Insert classic Tool fan comment joke here.
Your Tai Chi and rhythm tangent (I wouldn't consider it a rant)... It reminds me of a concept found in certain realms of quantum physics... How the essence of matter and certain fundamental forces could potentially be broken down to a set of rhythms or frequencies in the fabric of space-time (vibrations might be a better term, as "frequencies" has been coopted by some... Less than reputable circles). This is just the science loving nerd in me speaking, tho I do enjoy pondering certain philosophical concepts (the idea of Brahman, and the notion that nothing in the Universe is separate from the Universe, are two concepts that spring to mind)
CAN. NOT. WAIT for you to do Descending. Jw on the floor first time I heard it....which was on a Periscope video, live at its debut. The reddit community was there. And we were spoiled.
Really appreciate your reactions/thoughts man, and great job explaining your experience of the music. I'd be interested to hear some of your recommendations if you get round to it - I'm probably fairly similar in that I love complicated rhythms and technically interesting music, but I'm also a total sucker for a good hook/melody. Combine those things and I'm sold 👌
The next three main songs are hands down my favorite sequence of songs out of all the albums. Can’t wait for the reactions...this guys like Tool all in himself...we wait long enough for Tool to release their music, and this turd is making us wait a week between songs 😂 JK....but really, hustle sir 🤣
I know EXACTLY what your movement comment is about. I grew up playing music (Trumpet, French Horn, and drums) with some singing sprinkled in there. Like you, I'm catching on to the different instrument rhythms b going simultaneously, and like most drum players, our body FEELS the different parts -- and once you catch one you feel the one that doesn't match and your body is looking to express that other thing that eventually cycles back. I rambled too, but I hear you, brother.
On the last lap of the Tool marathon. Thanks for sharing this journey with us. I had mixed feelings about FI when it was first released but its grown on me over the last year and a half or so.
For some reason, when you talked about pop/rock songs with a good balance between catchiness and interesting drum patterns, one of my favorite examples came to mind: Rubber Mallet by Alien Ant Farm. Apples and oranges compared to Tool, but still so good.
Important (but very nerd) detail: this album was recorded without the click. It means there’s no set tempo for the tracks and parts of the songs differ from one another. When they finished with recording the instruments, they mapped this „liquid” and unsettled tempo and added all the effects accordingly. So all of those tracks speed up or slow down gently throughout.
I’ll be honest, when this song first dropped I was sort of worried I wasn’t going to enjoy the album as much I had hoped. Still probably my least favorite song on the album. I had a similar experience with the last A Perfect Circle record. I wasn’t as enthusiast about the new music as I was the older stuff so I was really really hoping this album would do it for me. Boy, I was not disappointed.
i think the coincidental architecture is quite amazing vis a vis fear inoculum and covid-19. not only the lyrics, but also the mandala that alex grey designed for the cd, which resembles the CDC's visualization of the virus in color, gestalt, and geometric detail. alex previously captured a precognitive trace of the destruction of the twin towers in his gaia painting. carl jung said, "all art intuitively apprehends coming changes in the collective unconscious," and i think the evidence for this is basically everywhere, often hiding in plain sight. also this album rules
Re your comment toward the end: The last several Thy Catafalque albums also do a great job of riding the line between experimental and catchy. Some fantastic riff writing there.

I can't believe I'm hyped for a reaction video but I'm truly looking forward to your reaction of Pneuma. I'll be burning some tree for that one.
Fun fact, he sings mitosis exactly in the middle of the song, as in when a cell splits in two.
Movement within a Tool song is really good, the different rhythms makes you want to move different body parts like the shoulders and the hips at the different rhythms but it’s the same.
I highly recommend watching the drum cam video of Pneuma on Vic Firth’s channel. Truly amazing.
Glad to see someone enjoy Tool as much as I do
When you listen to Invincible hear it in the context of them (a hugely popular band) releasing an album after a break of 13 years.
I can't wait for the rest ! This album it's History. TOOL catch the listeners
CAN.
Sounds like your editing software couldn’t quite handle the epicness xD
i approve this reaction. love it man.:)
Your obscure rant was most exelent and right on the money
He says mitosis at the exact halfway point of the song. 🤯🤯🤯
The next three main songs are hands down my favorite sequence of songs out of all the albums. Can’t wait for the reactions...this guys like Tool all in himself...we wait long enough for Tool to release their music, and this turd is making us wait a week between songs 😂 JK....but really, hustle sir 🤣
Please put that series on youtube!
Catchy,..... Cerebral is the word you were looking for. Tool is very cerebral.
This album is phenomenal! Good reaction.
(during "rant")
I felt you're saying a continuation of energy expression through kinetics.
Fear Inoculum's chorus is my theme tune.
That's sick that you practice Tai Chi. It's intrigued me for years. I want to hear more about you!
This album is going to change your whole game dude. It’s really really good AND a grower. Enjoy!
Agreed, as good as it is it feels like a warmup to the god tier stuff right around the corner
i think the coincidental architecture is quite amazing vis a vis fear inoculum and covid-19. not only the lyrics, but also the mandala that alex grey designed for the cd, which resembles the CDC's visualization of the virus in color, gestalt, and geometric detail. alex previously captured a precognitive trace of the destruction of the twin towers in his gaia painting. carl jung said, "all art intuitively apprehends coming changes in the collective unconscious," and i think the evidence for this is basically everywhere, often hiding in plain sight. also this album rules
Re your comment toward the end: The last several Thy Catafalque albums also do a great job of riding the line between experimental and catchy. Some fantastic riff writing there.
Tool is like a aged fine wine
