- Rail Museum Mysore is a Mysore Museum part of Mysore Tourism and Karnataka Tourism. The Railway Museum at Mysore, India is an outdoor exhibit of vintage locomotives.
The Railway Museum was established in 1979 by Indian Railways, the second such museum after the National Railway Museum in Delhi. The museum is opposite the Central Food Technology and Research Institute on Krishnaraja Sagar Road. It has locomotives and a gallery of photographs and paintings depicting the growth of railways in India. Railway signals and lights are also displayed.

The display includes ES 506 4-6-2 is the first locomotive,
An Austin rail-motor car
Several inspection cars,
The Maharani Saloon carriage that has a kitchen, dining car unit and royal toilet dating back to 1899.
A W.G. Bagnall #1625 which was made in 1900 for Khushalgarh - Kohat - Thal Railway which was a military frontier line, was subsequently transferred to North Western Railways. It operated at Timber Depot in Marala and was transferred later to Dhilwan Creosoting plant. This 2'-6" gauge locomotive is configured as 2-4-2ST.
Class E #37244 4-4-4T from SIR built by North British Locomotive Co. in 1920. Originally # 8, it was one of the three superheated locomotives.
Class TS/1 #37338 2-6-2T from SR, made by W.G. Bagnall in 1932 for Mysore State Railways.
A YP #2511 made by Telco in 1963.

Nicely made. You have explained in detail sir. A must visit place in Mysuru. Even I visited recently for the first time. Full Paisa vasool for Rs.50/-(as on May 10th 2024) parking for four wheelers Rs.30/- takes about two hours to complete in detail including toy train ride. We can use our smart phone camera to take photos and video.

My appointment was in Mysore. In the year 1980.i worked in steam she'd. Just one year. After I left the Mysore. And worked in Diesel loco she'd K. R. PURAM. Still I may not visit the railway museum. Now they are renovate. Any how you are explains well. So for the sake of your explanation. I must visit this museum. With out fail. We must learn lot of things in olden days working principle. Vary great job.

Dear Sudeesh, thanks showing Railway museum of Mysuru. Your entry to the Museum was nice by showing each inch of parking space to subscribers. Nice to see all the three gauges which are preserved in this museum. Trolley vechile was also special information and till now it is used in our Indian Railways for checking of Railway tracks maintenance. Nice to see Rotary telephones usage in our Railways. Surprise to see Watch tower in this Museum. View of Railway museum was nice from Watch tower. Similar type of Watch tower is there in Bengaluru Freedom park ( Old central jail) of Bengaluru, but entrance to it is forbidden. Nice to see old Coal engine locomotive here. Nice to see Shimoga Talaguppa railbus here. This Rail bus has been shown in few Kannada films also. Nice to see Coach cafe in the Museum And to see Putani Express toy train here. Maharani Saloon coach was very attractive to see in Sri Ranga Pavillion. Hostel motor car was nice to see. In total this video was nice to see. I visited Similar type of Railway Museum at Villivakkam at Chennai 2 years back. There also Railway models are displayed from Day 1 of Indian Railways to till date . For your information, Recent Vandhe Bharath Express is also displayed. There one separate working model section is also there. Like this museum, one special toy train is also there. Old models of Chennai local trains and old Railway engines and special Bogies are displayed in outside premises there. Main difference is that Chennai Railway Museum has one separate auditorium for visitors which shows History of our Indian Railways in a hour video where as our Mysuru Railway museum don't have this facility. Chennai Railway museum is maintained by ICF (Indian coach factory) and few Apprentices are given training in that Museum.

Kottikal sir, so detail video on rail museum, when ever I use to embark from Mysore railway station, after getting down from train, while coming out, I use to see a direction board of rail museum, but I never ventured to visit it due to work rush while reaching Mysore Station and in the evening while returning to station, with an urgency to board train to return to bengaluru,. Now I feel why I missed this opportunity.
