Chunchi falls, is an almost 50 feet high cascade of falls, which is fed by the river Arkavati. Located at a distance of 83km from Bangalore, Chunchi Falls lies en route to Mekedatu and Sangama in Karnataka. Mekedatu is a rocky valley, while Sangama is the meeting point of three rivers. This spot is extremely popular as a picnic spot. It derived its name from a tribal couple, Chuncha and Chunchi. These falls are a perfect way to escape the grind, as they are tucked away from the commercialisation and are usually deserted.
On the way to Chunchi Falls, travellers also come across a watchtower which enables them to devour a panoramic 360-degree view of the rocky terrain adorned with deciduous forest. If you are an adventure junkie, then you can trek down to the falls to soak in the beauty of the surroundings.
There is a power station ahead of Chunchi falls. Chunchi falls had a lot of water before the installation of this power station. However, after the installation of the power station, the amount of water has reduced significantly in the Chunchi falls. One should not try to step closer to the falls; as it might be risky and dangerous. Chunchi falls witnessed accidents before. Hence, staying here until late evening is not advisable. As when the place is deserted, the chances of mishaps are high. Swimming is also prohibited here due to the strong undercurrents and presence of crocodiles.
From Kanakapura en route to Sangama take a left turn to the Yeleguri village to go to Chunchi waterfall. The waterfall is about 6km away from the deviation.A huge number of tourists visit Chunchi Falls from Bangalore during the monsoon season

I Visited Chunchi falls after watching your video!!!... falls is just amazing...But the behaviour of the guide whom u have showed in the video and few others sitting along with him was very rude!!.... they were forcefully asking for money 200/head in order to let us near the falls!!!... Parking place they gave a receipt.
If we really want a guide we can take but they are making it mandatory to register our names and pay the money.....I asked them the receipt they start yelling at me which is bad!!
Probably i had a bad experience with them but it spoils one's mood....i understand they earn money for their bread and butter but at the same time they have to understand for us also it is our hard-earned money !!...if it is going to government & there's some development activities near the falls it's appreciated to pay money which I see is not happening here!!!
Anyways I just shared my thoughts about what I experienced yesterday!!!

Same experience with us, we didn't pay them and went down on our own. They kept saying they'll inform the police but that's just to scare you into giving them money. The only people who deserve money in my point of view are the people who sell you food even if it's overpriced.

Last year (2019) I went in July to the main falls area. It's an amazing feeling getting there and being there. This same Muthuraj was there and we paid 50. There was another very old shepherd man too who led us and showed the way. Very humble man, far better than the talkative Muthuraj. It was full of white water and the spray hitting our faces and bodies were amazing. It's a big falls area and highly dangerous. Take all precautions. To know that people are not allowed to that main area is a sad thing. I do not see much thrill seeing the downstream falls area. In the video I couldn't see much. It's not even one tenth as good as the experience one gets at the main Falls. Hope the authorities open that area also. When you are able to go there next time, go when the Falls are full. Wear a good pair of rubberised footwear to minimise slipping. Older people and young children cannot easily negotiate the route to the main falls, which they can avoid. For youths and people who are fit, never miss the main falls area at Chunchi - one of the best experiencing locations in Karnataka. Prepare to walk around 3 kms up and down, carrying your own bottle of water. It's highly humid and tiring.

I met Muthraj. Good man, It was closed on Sept 2020 but on request he allowed me to view Chunchi falls on Sept month 2020.
I'm from Calicut Kerala, the video contains very important guidance from Muthu Anna when we visit any waterfalls or unfamiliar places ..yava waterfalls agirli, rock mountains, hills, tracking agirli, without proper knowledge ,permissions, guidance from trusted localities or govt bodies ,visitors must keep stay away from them until they get guidance. it's dangerous visiting without taking any familiar guide.

As tribals know we'll about law of forest, only localities like Muthu only knew well about the good and bad in that place. As I visited 50 more waterfalls in Kerala with guidance ,I would like to salute Muthu Annas service.

This place is not well developed yet for tourism and visits. It is too dangerous for people to go because the rocks are too smooth and slippery. Moreover, there are no barriers and safeguards for visiting people. It can be developed well by the tourism department. In the meantime, they need to get rid of the rowdy home guards elements who are harassing innocent visitors and fleecing them for nothing. They need action on this matter before someone is going to do major harm!
