  • This video is my updated Always Pan review after 6 months of daily use. I still like a lot of things about this pan, but I also noticed some issues that I wanted to mention in case you're thinking about getting it.
    The Always Pan is designed to replace 8 traditional pieces of cookware and it has a non toxic, nonstick ceramic coating made without potentially toxic materials like PFOAs, PTFEs, other PFAs, lead, cadmium, toxic metals, and nanoparticles.

    There’s nothing “sustainable” about a pan that starts wearing out at 6 months when there are numerous options available that last over a lifetime. It’s called marketing.

      Sorry I thought I deleted my comment after seeing how grumpy that sounded. A number of years ago I switched from disposable, to two different pans. The first is a century old cast iron pan. It is very non stick to the point that eggs slide around on it. However, in order to maintain seasoning, I never wash it with soap, as well as avoid cooking acidic saucy/watery foods in it (they break down the oils in seasoning similar to soap). For saucy foods, I use a stainless steel pan, which should also outlive me. No worries about sticking, cause those foods generally don’t have that problem.

    My recommendation when it comes to pans and pots usually is to get carbon steel or cast iron for general cooking since those literally get better with age. Carbon is better for single handed use or antique cast iron.
    Stainless for if you are going to abuse your pans (within reason) and just buy inexpensive nonstick because you will replace them.
    Side recommendation is to buy from places that sell to kitchens since those have to be made to a higher standard and tend to be backed by long warranties. (ie MadeIn).

EVERYTHING sticks to this pan, even with a coat of EVOO, butter, or non-stick spray! I have only used wooden or silicone utensils and I only cleaned it with the sponge that came with it or a magic kitchen eraser cloth. I wrote the company and received a response intended to placate.

Sticking causes fond to develop on the bottom of the pan, which then can be deglazed using liquid to add flavour to the dish and clean the bottom at the same time.
      There are only a few things that you truly want it to not stick at all for and that's eggs and some lean proteins (fish etc). This can be mitigated by using heat and oil/butter appropriately, meaning that you should add your oil/butter and food when the pan is heated, and to not add before then. My lodge pan is now relatively well seasoned, so it has become mostly non-stick for eggs, as long as I'm also careful to use the right heat.
      Seasoning is basically just polymerised oil which bonds to the pan through use, and causes it to become slicker and more non-stick over time. If you dry your pan after washing and just put a 1/4 tsp of oil in your pan and rub it in with a paper towel, the pan will be safer from rust and start to develop seasoning.

    I buy products based on how they treat their employees and how much they take the environment into consideration. I am ok with having to use a bit of olive oil in the pan after a few months. The features that I will buy this pan for are:
    The steam basket
    How deep the pan is
    The spoon holder
    Thank you for the updated review.

      How is this better for the environment then one cast iron pan that is 1/10th of the price and will last a 100 years, would have to buy 10-15 of these over the course of a lifetime doesn’t seem environmentally friendly to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Want to throw it out there that in my expirence, Our Place has had lousy customer service. Even for simple issues - I had some damage in shipping, and they didn't really help. They also delete all of their negative questions or comments on instagram. I get it - people can be unreasonable, but I watched as questions that could have easily been resolved disappear. I would assume with a large price tag, you have funds for customer service. I appreciate your review!

    Immediately looked up this review after the third TH-cam ad for this "perfect pAAHHHn" (the creator's pronunciation bothers tf out of me), and I'm very glad I did.
    I cook for a living, and this looks like the maintenance it would take to maintain that nonstick glaze would definitely outweigh the initial purchase, later on.
    There's a perfect PAAAAHHHN for every situation, but not one that encompasses any situation.

    I have had the pan since last year - I had used it all the time with no significant wear. It may make a difference if you are using high heat all the time. Mine has a bottom without the coating of the rest of the pan - just open cast aluminum (presumably sealed in some invisible way) I only put it through the dishwasher once, and I noticed some residue in that area. As for the stain - I think if you are careful to FULLY wash it before reusing/reheating it again, there should not be a stain issue.

    Thank you for your honesty. I appreciate it so much. I really wanted to purchase it because of the beautiful advertising and photos on the site. I’m so glad that I did not do that based on the aesthetic and ability to fry, steam etc in the same pan. I thought it would be magic..based on the look of the video advertisements. It’s always great to take a deeper look. So glad I didn’t buy! What about Le Creuset? I know people are saying cast iron but I wonder about buying from the brand.

    I received the Always Pan as a surprise wedding gift. I had seen it on TH-cam before. I use cast iron every day and have one antique Swedish ceramic fondue pot. The bottom turned brown like your AP. I like taking the fondue pot from stove to table. As far as the AP, I'll try to make it last by using it for specific recipes, like steaming or boiling.

  • @asasecondlanguage

    Do you use it (or did you use it) on high heat? That is my biggest complaint with mine, especially the perfect pot, is that it recommends to only use it on low-medium heat in order to preserve the enamel. I've had mine for a couple years now and the enamel /non-stick is still great and I don't have nearly as much discoloration on the bottom as yours, so I'm wondering if that is the reason. I've wanted to try it on higher heats, because it can be annoying not to be able to do that for some dishes, but have been wary because of this.

    • @avooneverything
      @avooneverything  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly my heat was probably too high for it to handle, but I have a gas stove and I only ever use it on medium and haven't had that issue with other pans. I feel like if I cook on lower than medium with my stove everything will take 3 times as long to cook... probably not a good pan for gas stoves overall

    I commend you for your honest and detailed review. The video of cooking with the Always pan was helpful. Your recommendation comes with the personal experience and precautions. Because of you I know what to expect if I want to pay for the Always Pan. It is its appearance that attracts me to the Always Pan, without which I would not consider it. With what you said about value and longevity, what pan would you recommend for those qualities?

    • @avooneverything

      Thank you for the kind comment, I'm glad my review was helpful! By no means I'm an expert when it comes to pans, but I've heard that cast iron pans are pretty much indestructible - I have two by Lodge and I've had them for a few years, they're in the same condition. Someone else below in the comments had recommended aluminum pans, you should be able to find the comment if you scroll down. I personally haven't used aluminum, but I've heard a lot of people recommending them as a great long-term pan. Hope that helps!

    My mum's got a couple of le creuset cast irons at home, 5 years of almost daily use.... still looks like new. Avocado did also say that the egg would eventually start sticking to the bottom of the pan, just shows that the "always pan" is no more than any other non stick pans (less the amazing marketing of course).

    I think one of the keys to using this pan (and all ceramic pans) is to ignore their suggestion that you don't have to use much oil/butter/fat to cook. Use the regular amount of fats to cook. A dry hot pan will break down faster. But I think it's also something to note that other than cast iron pans, nearly all pans (yes, even All-Clad, Le Creuset etc...) get stained or scratched after awhile.

    • @waltermh111
      @waltermh111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was about to say that I couldnt tell here that she used any oils or butter at all. They clearly recommend it to preserve the coating but I wonder if her problem is ignoring their instructions or if she skipped showing us that? But I couldnt tell at all and it would be her bad to skip showing that she is doing that important step.

      I always use oil in my everyday cooking. I just wanted to show the change in the pan vs my first video where I fried an egg without oil to test how nonstick it is. And that's literally the only two times that I've done that

    • @vishneva2000
      @vishneva2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avooneverything Oh, yeah, just commenting in general on the use of oil/fats. Because I saw the company hyping that you can use less. The Caraway pan commercials say the same thing. That said, America's Test Kitchen just tested a bunch of ceramic pans and their winner, The Green Pan, is one that I have, used sparingly and it's already a little stained inside the pain. I see a lot of people not liking these pans because they're not cute and pretty after using a few times. And that just happens with all cookware for the most part. Thank you for the review of the pan.

      My commentI was more directed to the person who responded to your comment, it sounded like they thought that's how I generally cook lol And yes, the reason why I decided to do the egg test is because it was part of the Always Pan commercial. They definitely push the no/less oil approach

    Love the he review, but one call out from my experience. My non stick coating is still perfect after 1.5 years, but I’ve never turned my heat above 6. It seems like if you use heat like other traditional non stick, it will wear off faster. This pan gets just as hot at 6 as my other pans do on high.

    • @avooneverything

Always buy the best quality stainless18/20 heavy bottom pots and pans that you can afford, or save just a little longer.. they are on sale often at Kohl’s, Macy’s or other higher end stores for around $200. ***You only need 1 or 2 non stick pans perhaps a small and larger one. They WILL NOT last forever WHAT EVER brand you buy! My hint!!**Purchase the “Chef Quality” non stick pans in the catering isle of Sams Club. These are excellent inexpensive pans for the price! ***Also for any bakers out there…..You will find LONG LASTING sheet pans there as well. 2 packs for around 10.bucks!

    Also in a prepped situation for end times, a cast iron on could be used over the fire outdoors, right? So there’s even that option too. It can go in the oven and over the fire…think I will look into that. Not to mention the food quality is so tasty with cast iron pans.
