    I love the video, I think,for my dad, he has one of the best jobs in the Navy, being the aircrew in the P-3. He retired in 1994 out of NAS Jacksonville. He’s very proud of his time in the Navy. Thank you all for your service in the Navy.

    Thanks for bringing back all the memories. FE for VP-69 in the early 80's. Preflights in the Philippines with fog rolling out all the ducts trying to dry out the airplane until you heard the ice rattling around the duct work. 12 hours out over the water running on two engines on patrol. Great memories. Thanks for sharing!

      12 hour flights?! That is crazy! I don't recall the event that lead up to the "instruction" that we were no longer able to shutdown 2 engines, we were only allowed 1. So you got me beat in single flight times. The longest I think I did was around 11 hours however at high altitude. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!

    Man that brought back some great memories. I was with VP-48. Not aircrew, but ground pounder. Still, that old girl looks mighty familiar inside and out. I was on my first deployment when a VP-9 bird went in the drink off the coast of Adak. Made us all think a little more about what we were doing and what we were working on, keeping them flying. Thanks again kids! AMS2 Tom Andrews 1978-1981 VP-48, NAS Moffett Field Deployed NAF Misawa, Kadena, Okinawa (X2) TAD Diego Garcia.

    From a fellow “Soldier in the Sky” (with apologies to Black Angels, more like “Sailor in the Sky”), VP-11, AW2 of CAC-7, Brunswick, Maine,1973-1977, I thoroughly enjoyed a look at today’s P-3 cowboys (and cowgirls). Aside from color of Nomex and female crew members, the crew-camaraderie and odd sense of humor....exactly as I remembered it. Wish we had had GoPro back then! I eventually retired a black shoe O-6, but my time in the VP Navy, set the tone that if you weren’t having fun it was because you weren’t making fun. Bravo-Zulu, ladies and gentlemen....a most sincere Bravo-Zulu!

      What is a "black shoe" O-6?

    • @captaincoyote1792
      @captaincoyote1792 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@whatohhellnah Good morning, JP5....BTW, cool user name!. Historically, khaki Navy aviators (Officers and CPOs) wore brown shoes with their khaki and aviator green dress uniforms....unique in the Navy, as ship drivers (Surface Warfare) and submarine officers and chiefs all wore “black shoes” with dress uniform. Navy aviators almost as proud of their brown shoes as they are their flight jackets. So, as an enlisted man, I started out in aviation. Once I completed college and received my commission, I went to the Surface Navy wearing black shoes (my eyesight prevented me from flying as an officer). As for the O-6? That was the rank (pay grade) I retired at....a Navy Captain....same as Colonel in the other military branches. And while I’m not sure....I think that brown shoes are now permitted even in the Surface and Submarine Navy. But as I recall, I only once ever saw a Surface Officer (a SUPPO) wearing “brown shoes” ....but the hazing and hassle that he took from the rest of the “black shoe” Wardroom , wasn’t worth it!!!

      Hey razor....pretty sure that was a result of A/C kicking in....condensation, I think. A Flight Engineer out there should confirm it.

      @@Phoenix-om9pc 11 December, 1977. Out of the Azores.....crashed into one of the Canary Islands. Alcohol, maybe even drugs, found in 4 or the 13 crew members.....some of who were friends of mine. Not so damned funny now.

      @@captaincoyote1792 actually I still stand by my comment that I still find humor in. However, by no means was it meant to disrespect anyone and their experiences regardless of how positive or tragic it might have been. We all have different degrees of a twisted sense of humor. I don’t make assumptions and ask that you please do the same for me. We have all more than likely lost friends in active service under many different circumstances and I am sorry for your lost.
