He is so modest. Personally, I think he should be awarded a Nobel Prize for Science. What he has achieved is monumental. I think his place in History is secure and he will be ranked alongside Newton, Darwin and Einstein. He has made Leicester famous and his contribution to the world and humanity is colossal.

Agreed. What usually happens: They end up giving it to some (mediocre)
American chap, otherwise... the Yanks get all upset and throw their toys out of the pram. Mr Jeffreys should have won a Nobel Prize for sure!

I'm glad he likes to talk, because I could listen to him all day. Very interesting, articulate, amusing and self-effacing chap who just happens to be a genius. Typically English in his modesty - charming.

What a lovely down to earth man. Thank goodness you made that 'mistake'. It's down to you and your scientific comrades that so many murderers have been convicted. Thank you Sir Alec Jeffreys

Anyone else find this after watching Amazon's Code to a Killer? I'm impressed how well the cast and dialog match the real science. :)

Great interview, thanks! re 15:30 Sadly, until quite recently there is a preference by many US police departments for obtaining confessions from suspects before attempting any proper forensic work that includes testing DNA or even the old fingerprints! Such confessions often use controversial interrogation techniques that involve psychological and emotional manipulation and have proven to result in false confessions.

And even guilty suspects are too crazy to admit to their own crimes as often they feeel they have nothing to lose. As for the old fingerprints evidence, well that can be countered by wearing gloves or wiping them away. With DNA evidence however, it is extremely difficult to not leave any DNA evidence behind after commiting a crime.
