My kids are what they are because of Hayao Miyazaki. They are five and nine, and the younger one has been watching Ghibli movies since he was two. They think through drawing and stories and have great compassion because of these movies. When we went to the Ghibli Museum I felt Hayao Miyazaki had made the place for my family.
i watch spirited away a few months ago which was my first miyazaki's film and became and instant fan. the attention to details are simply amazing. i love the part where the little girl put on her shoes. something so simple and yet.. just wow
I was there. Extremely hard to get in, I waited at like 5:00 in the morning just to see him and had to go through all the other panels, but it was definitely worth it!!
I wish that inspirational Hayao Miyazaki had went the conventions in the East Coast of the USA 🇺🇸. Including Anime Boston, Anime USA, Anime NYC and New York Comic Con.
I just envy the people who had the honor to see and hear Miyazaki-sensei live! He is a GOD of Anime World. His movies are master pieces beyond time! And Joe Hisaishi is a music Genius his soundtrack are Epic!
Spirited Away was my favorite movie from him, boy it brings back memories...I feel like crying Q~Q Its been almost 5 years since I first saw the movie and 6 years since Kiki's Delivery Service!
I also went to the first public screening at the movies in the Gaslamp District of San Diego later that night, we lined up right after the panel and he made an appearance at the premiere also.
Mizaki-san is such a freaking GREAT AWESOME SPECTACULAR GOOD SUGOI STORY WRITER!!! I've recently watched Spirited Away, and I cried my eyes out. Not necessarily because it's sad or anything but it was just so beautiful, and I've never, ever seen ANYTHING like it. :) Ponyo is a great movie too. XD
wowww really wooowwwwww Miyazaki is an idol, I love his work Spirited Away, Princess Monoko, etc ... all are excellent, the ambience, the history the fantastic and the dreams that reflect are great. ohjala someday come to mexico my respects thanks for giving us dream with your work:-D
I like to think of Miyazaki as his own unique story teller, the comparison to Disney is made by many. Personally I think Disney limits animation toward a young audience, which I understand can have a wider appeal. Ghibli however creates stories which aren't so black and white, also not always geared toward a younger audience. I appreciate this as I get older. Growing up I loved Disney animation, now though I realized the world isn't do idealized. The world is more like Miyazaki films.
@silvermoonredmoon Pixars have excellent 3d animators, great artist work in that company...they put love in to there movies, the same way Miyazaki put all he got in to his movies.

Wait is that Lasseter!? Im still waiting for the day when this two collaborate for a movie.
i haven't seen the entire interview from comic con but does anyone know if he's going to make another film after ponyo or is ponyo the last?? i just can't get enough of his films!!! i'll be depressed if ponyo is his last.
A lot of fans in Japan were puzzled because Ponyo is so simple and deviates from conventional story-telling way . Ponyo was certainly a movie for children as Miyazaki said. BUT, it is the work with which his moral elements are filled so much. In that sense, the one for the adult. If you have interst in classical music, you should check the musicdramas of R Wagner, and it helps the deep understandig of Ponyo motifs.
i saw him in comic con on the day he presented ponyo went and saw ponyo and saw him agian recognized me and waved hes a very shy person didn't get his autograph though
I think the fact that he uses a different style is what makes the films so great. If he used that typical layout the stories would be boring and predictable.
@futureanimatior Wow, you're here as well. I've seen you in many Miyazaki video and you try so hard to put him down. What is the matter with you? I can see your nick is futureanimator, then be one humble and respectful animator, don't put other animators down because by doing that, I don't see any respect of your animation works if you do really become one.
If you see his profile on Rotten Tomatoes, you'll find that Howl's Moving Castle is fresh with 86% viewers liking it. And that percentage goes up for the rest of his films.
@RunnersHighz it's not about 3d animation or whatever you call it to me it's about story! and Miyazaki's have much more compelling story in all of his film compared to every pixar's. but hey i'm not trying to argue with you obviously you and i have different taste about certain thing.
And, might I add, (ran over character limit), yes, he should learn how to pronounce their names correctly, but that doesn't make him a horrible person in any way. And yes, Pixar-Disney just distributed their films, and you are right about where the credit of creativity should go to, but would you fly all the way to Japan to watch Ponyo? Never doubt the power of distributors, sir.
Sorry for calling you a sir. I already knew that John Lasseter was fired from Disney before making Pixar; he suffocated under the bureaucratic atmosphere, and crossed one too many lines. And yes, he does put in his name in many films, but as the Executive Producer, and he is the executive producer for most of the films so I don't know how that would constitute plastering. (Plus, Lasseter directed over a third of all Pixar films to date.) I do agree with your other points, though.
i agree, but i personally feel that his films are animATIONS not animE. he deserves a better title for his groundbreaking films. but since he makes animated films, and is japanese, he will always be classified as an anime movie maker. :(
Seriously? Yes, Miyazaki is absolutely amazing and I love every film of his, but must you really bash Lasseter like that? If I may correct you, Lasseter was the very first animator to come to Pixar when it first started, he animated Luxo Jr. and every short before entirely by himself. I respect both greatly, and their companies consistently produce high-quality animated films. Don't try to tear one down to support the other, there are plenty of other hack companies for that. (*cough* Disney)
@brendonian I saw it a few months ago.....I was a tragic fail =/ and I wasnt even expecting it to be as good as his father's work. it was just terrible
@futureanimatior never liked Disney Classic but it was the only choices when it comes to cartoon during my childhood and luckily it didn't last that long because it's kinda boring until japanese animation amaze and break open the creativity in me..
@Raxer21 hopefully his son is as good as he is. Or maybe not...I just saw tales from earthsea (his son directed it). It wasnt great. It was more along the lines of mediocre.
1.event happens 2. unimportant thing happen around that event 3. event resolved This is the three point formula in every Miyazaki film. Seriously, what is he trying to do here?! It does not make sense! I do not understand Miyazaki at all!
Q: How do you create your stories? A:"Well, I think and think and think about them for a long time. If anyone has a better idea about how to write a story let me know." I GOT ONE! Abandon the Johakyu style of dramatic structure, it makes no sense. Have an Introduction, a Rising Action, a Climax, a Falling Action, and a Resolution IN THAT EXACT ORDER. Also, learn the art of writing a "personality" and don't leech off of your animator's and Joe Hisashi's talent to steal awards.
So *that's* why Hisaishi's soundtracks are so good even on their own... they're not based on a certain scene but the general mood of the film
?? No soundtracks are based on scene. That's not how it works.
It must have been an honor to sit or even be in his presence *0*
i watch spirited away a few months ago which was my first miyazaki's film and became and instant fan. the attention to details are simply amazing. i love the part where the little girl put on her shoes. something so simple and yet.. just wow

Miyazaki-sama, your world has become my world. Thank you for all the inspiring movies you have created. Arigato gozaimasu!
I wish that inspirational Hayao Miyazaki had went the conventions in the East Coast of the USA 🇺🇸.
Including Anime Boston, Anime USA, Anime NYC and New York Comic Con.
My favorite american animator, Jhon Lasseter, meets my favorite japanese animator, Hayao Miyazaki

my process is thinking, thinking thinking
I just envy the people who had the honor to see and hear Miyazaki-sensei live! He is a GOD of Anime World. His movies are master pieces beyond time! And Joe Hisaishi is a music Genius his soundtrack are Epic!
He is perhaps the Akira Kurosawa of this generation with his films. Looking forward to Ponyo's release.
Spirited Away was my favorite movie from him, boy it brings back memories...I feel like crying Q~Q
Its been almost 5 years since I first saw the movie and 6 years since Kiki's Delivery Service!

He looks like the japanese Colonel Sanders, lmao. Genius comes in all forms.
Howls Moving Castle is amazing. He has also made other great works. :)
I also went to the first public screening at the movies in the Gaslamp District of San Diego later that night, we lined up right after the panel and he made an appearance at the premiere also.

@silvermoonredmoon Pixars have excellent 3d animators, great artist work in that company...they put love in to there movies, the same way Miyazaki put all he got in to his movies.

The things I would do to meet this incredible man.
The older movies he made kick the new one's ass.
i saw him in comic con on the day he presented ponyo went and saw ponyo and saw him agian recognized me and waved hes a very shy person didn't get his autograph though
I think the fact that he uses a different style is what makes the films so great. If he used that typical layout the stories would be boring and predictable.
He was at comic con?! DARN IT!!! I was only a few states away....-_-
@futureanimatior Wow, you're here as well. I've seen you in many Miyazaki video and you try so hard to put him down. What is the matter with you? @futureanimatior WHAT? what do you mean? he's an amazing person :)
@Raxer21 I think about that alot of times. Its just sad.......
I NEED TO KNOW! IS THERE A TRANSLATOR ON COMICON? BECAUSE HOW DO THEY KNOW JAPANESE
+Poke87 Mon you can tell where they edit cut out the translator. it's kind of annoying to everything repeated anyway.
hero
If you see his profile on Rotten Tomatoes, you'll find that Howl's Moving Castle is fresh with 86% viewers liking it. And that percentage goes up for the rest of his films.
lol J3eesica I would probably freak out. I love all his flims Howl's moving castle is my favorite.
someone tell me is he still alive ?,and can u prove to me evidence that he is by a video of him in 2011 or somthing:(
why does miyazai lean away at the start?
He was listening to a translator on his side.
John Lasseter is the luckiest man alive, sharing the same air as Miyazaki.
Miyazaki waved at me personally will i was going to see ponyo
@PuckettJp2 his son already epicly failed once, i hope porco rosso II will be awesome
@futureanimatior
Um, why is that? Unless you have a good reason.
Hayao Miyazaki is the greatest creator and human being on Earth. End of conversation.
You're so lucky T0T I'd give anything for Miyazaki to acknowledge my existance, even for 2 seconds...
@RunnersHighz it's not about 3d animation or whatever you call it to me it's about story! and Miyazaki's have much more compelling story in all of his film compared to every pixar's. but hey i'm not trying to argue with you obviously you and i have different taste about certain thing.

Heh, Use ur mouse to go to 3:30 (Hold it there). Hayao Miyazaki is just amazing.

Miyazaki kinda looks like Colonel Sanders here.
Japanese Col.Sanders Imao.
I thought he is the original KFC guy
Well unless the Forest Spirit wishes it so...
@futureanimatior im not going to dignify you with a real response because i dont agree with some of what you answered....
@futureanimatior meh, none of pixar's films can compete with Miyazaki's films Ponyo is million times better than up.
@Raxer21 hopefully his son is as good as he is. Or maybe not...I just saw tales from earthsea (his son directed it). It wasnt great. It was more along the lines of mediocre.
lol he's the asian KFC guy
at 00:47 hayao tries to fart
Yeah I know, omg, that annoys me. They pronounce it like "Panyo" when it's not like that - .-'
i know youre not trying to be mean, but i feel thats a lil insulting... im sure you wouldnt want miyazaki-sama to hear you say that.
@ThisIsDream fail.
@futureanimatior blah!
pixar is nothing compared to Miyazaki
1.event happens
2. unimportant thing happen around that event
3. event resolved
This is the three point formula in every Miyazaki film.
Seriously, what is he trying to do here?! It does not make sense! I do not understand Miyazaki at all!
well then you need to grow a heart!
Well it might make more sense to you
1. Movie begins and it ends
2. You born and you die...
Q: How do you create your stories?
