    I'd love a 16 or 24 channel version of this console. 16 of the mono channels with 4 stereo channels and everything else the same. I'd buy that.

    What I did is add four SSL SiX 500 series in a rack to the original Six. Works great. Wellllll, two so far. The other two have been on a container ship somewhere for the past 6 months. If Sam could take a small dingy out to the ship and grab those, I would be grateful 😄

    i can bet ssl are being requested to make a bigger version with even more channels before what we have is a full on console for a serious studio this is extremely nice though for smaller semi pros

      I do like Andertons and have bought many synths (Prophet Six, OB6, Polybrute, Summit more) and recording gear from them, but the guys at PMT (Old street and Newcastle... I get around) are superb. Also Juno, DJ , GAK etc. We need more music stores around the country, PMT has stores around the country and is to be appreciated.

    So, I don't think you guys dipped into the parallel compression thing. You almost did. Or did I miss it.
    I would like to see a video on expansion setups mentioned here. Like adding a SiX and what is redundant or using 500 series SiX pre's, and what not. I'd like to see demonstrated how much one can grow the system starting with the Big SiX.

    I want to know more depth about the A to D and D to A conversion. Other products for converters talk about the clock and jitter for high quality phase alignment. I never hear anything about this topic. I barely grasp this topic but, I am in the reality that my stuff sounds better before printed to the Daw. I have the SSL 2+. . Is the conversion compete with companies like Dangerous and Burl. Thanks and please educate me on this topic.

    “Ultimate desktop mixer.”
    Yeah. Something like that. This certainly meets most use cases, especially considering where this product is positioned in the market.
    Although I do hope there is a “bigger six” in the pipeline with 8 pres, 8 stereo channels with insert points, EQs with sweepable frequencies, the channel compressors being auto-attack/release, and 16-24 ADAT at sub-$10k.

    use a 6 (or 8 more likely) channel high quality passive summing unit, you can turn the stereo sends into inserts for the stereo channels and feed them back in along with the bus b into the SUM IP TO MAIN input and solve the one issue most people will be having with the mixer for mixing

    I think the next move should be a SSL BiG SiXtEEN... with Dante instead of USB... or both?... or added thunderbolt?
    That would make a very good center piece.
    16 channels of the mono channels, ...6 buses?
    To use a SSL PCIE interface with Dante to give me the professional standard for latency would make it yet another hit to go after the BiG, plus giving use to a previous product of theirs.

    the stereo channels lack inserts. this means there is no way to place your favorite analog outboard gear onto those channels for mixing. your only choice is to waste cue mixes, which should be reserved for time-based effects.
    what do you think about SSL neglecting to put inserts on the stereo channels? what if you want to put a vari-mu or an xlogic bus compressor on a stereo channel? you can't do it.
    instead of the giant Big Six logo on the top, that space could be used for insert jacks. or the back has some space for a d-sub.

    • @silverstringguitar2650
      @silverstringguitar2650 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you expect for a measly $3k? I bought one and it’s awesome. The 4 mic pre’s, A/D and summing are worth the $3k alone. I use the stereo channels for synths, drums, background vocals etc, that have been mixed and processed in the daw. I only produce my own music, so I can see where someone wanting to do a full band could want more. But, again, it’s only $3k.

    • @ytb917
      @ytb917 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silverstringguitar2650 The mixer should have analog inserts on the stereo channels. It's a trivial amount of R&D and parts cost, and would be well worth a slightly higher selling price (if needed). It's a Big MisS on SSL's part to not include them.
      SSL is very active with product development these days. So there is a good chance we can see an update or a new product in the future that includes inserts on all channels.

    • @Superdelphinus
      @Superdelphinus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just out of interest, why would you want 32bit for something like this that’s likely to be used by people who know what they’re doing (at least to the extent they can get gain levels in the right ballpark), and aren’t likely to use it portably very much (I.e. use on sources with massive potential dynamic range)? As far as I can see 32bit is only really useful in scenarios where you either need to save a too hot and clipping, or too cold and covered in noise recording, or where you can’t predict extreme dynamic range.

    Sure the Big Six is a nice product. But by discontinuing the X-Desk, the BigSix should have implemented analog inserts and direct outs on every channel. Instead they opt for featuring USB and ADA converters.... ok, but then SSL OMITs ADAT i/o, which is the logical thing to do, to integrate the SIX with apollos or whatever. On the other hand, SSL rather than following their elegant design, with connectors on the back and mutes and solos above the fader, etc, they copy a 20 year old Mackie mixer, my gosh! and it's all praise, as if they had invented the wheel. The WORST of it all is this PR piece, where ANDERTONS rather than criticize all those weak points, like they do on the guitar product videos, they simply wow at every word the SSL guy says. SHAMEFUL. Please be MORE PROFESSIONAL, and to SSL: dont abandon the pro line and its users, XRACK, XDESK, SIGMA, NUCLEUS, etc, etc, all left in the cold, specially the last two items
